Gran Turismo 6 Announced!

IGN has published a very interesting interview with Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi as the creator of Gran Turismo 5 reveals some interesting details on upcoming DLC content and Gran Turismo 6.

Following 15 feature & bug fixing updates for Gran Turismo 5, Polyphony Digital launched the first commercial content packs for GT5 last month, adding Spa Francorchamps and new race cars to the title.

In the interview, Yamauchi reveals that the studio already has a bunch of content for future DLCs lined up and is looking into releasing them bi-monthly:


It’s been about a year since we’ve released the game and in the interim we’ve had about 15 updates that were performed on the game. These set up the basic platform for the system. Now that we have that out of the way, we’re ready to release more expansions and content to add to the game.

I think that will include cars and trucks that we’ll be releasing maybe once every two months or so from here on out. What we do from here on is also really dependent on the reaction of the users to this first DLC that we just released because this is the first one. Now we have the feedback from our customers and we’ll see how that will affect what we will do from here.

We have a pool of materials that are possible to release and it was just something that I decided with the team. We decided the vehicles and tracks and content in this first DLC was going to be our starting point.


The mention of “trucks” is most likely a typo or translation error as Yamauchi was probably talking about tracks. Furthermore, the GT creator also reveals that Gran Turismo 6 is already in the works as the studio is already working on new features that can’t be added as part of a DLC:


Of course we’re working on GT6 already and I think what really will be the separating factor is something that we can’t update through a DLC is something that obviously has to be saved for GT6. Things that we can provide through DLC we will, so that’s really the market difference.

Its not announced, and Kazunori said they started work on it before GT5 shipped. so really, its old news.

I think they should totally get rid of A Spec and just make it a full on driver manger. B Spec was soooo awesome in GT5. Just the tits.

Infact why not get rid of both A Spec and B Spec and just have it as a photography simulator........(thats all GT5 is good for anyway). Even better still get rid of all the cars and have wildlife mode where you go around each track looking for animals to snap.

The only PD product I will buy is Tourist Trophy 2. Gran Turismo is dead to me.:thumbup:

LOL. ;) That reminds me, someone on GTP had a go at the Sheep models in the game, because they looked quite good, compared to the standard cars.

Maybe Kazunori will make a deal with Turn 10 to rebadge Forza 4 as GT6, after Forza 5 comes out. Atleast than GT would finally be on the right track, so to speak. :-P:laugh:





On a serious note. I'm sure Pokecars 6, the Xtreme Photo Simulator will be truly excellent and completely blow the minds of all the trolls at GTP! :thumbdown:


Gran Turismo had a nice ride to start the new millenia, but the ride is over. GT is going the way of Duke Nukem. It's taking too long to produce, and it's not keeping up with the times. I think the team at Polyphony should break up and go on to other things. GT is now just an image from the past.

And, yes, that Nike car would be great company for the Red Bull X2011 "prototype". :P

Well i myself will not be buying it for i have Race07, GTL, RFactor, Forza 4 and F1 2011, but for the fans that were disappointed with GT5 i hope it will be a better release for them.:-)

And from what I've seen GT5's looks fake to me. Hell the videos and screenshots from the new Project C.A.R.S. environments looks fake. There never gonna look real, until they practically are real.

GT5's enviroments might be slightly more detailed, but than again... I'd rather have 500+ premium cars, with premium sound quality. Greater diversity in career mode. Superior online play. Superior offline play. Custom car graphics editor. No B-spec BS. Far superior car count representation. And several other things here and there.

You can have greater environment detail, day night changes(for now) and a slightly better time hotlapping the Nords in less than half of your cars. While I have a slightly less visually impressive time lapping the Nords in all of my cars! ;-):-P:laugh:

@markspeed: That's why I went with Forza originally, but for some reason I have an urge to return back to GT.

If there's one thing that's promising then it's GTR3, provided it arrives at all. ;)

:thumbdown:...... Really looking forward to this one!! (like i would a lobotomy! OR a Cillit Bang enema). Just been for a few laps in Shift 2 with the Community patch:thumbup:. Made me realize again just how bad GT was.

Infact if GT6 turned out to be the "second coming" Kaz himself would have to come round my gaff with a real life version of EVERY car in the game for me to keep. (as long as when i was driving he included a REAL dashboard instead of the "black outlines"):laugh:.

I figure GT6 will be just the same as GT1 GT2 GT3 GT4 and GT5 because fans (!) keep sucking down the same crud.... Then fix bugs add DLC rinse and repeat to infinity...... Infact i thing right now Kaz and his cronies are loading the GT5 models up and spit polishing the textures... (And removing the black edges around the windows:laugh:) ready for the GT6 "non premium" cars.
