View Full Version : GTR3 website bust

.se is a Swedish internet country code, so I assume the people that are putting together simbin.se (the future site for GTR3) are in Sweden. Its 10am for me (EST) so that puts Sweden at what time? 4pm. Still nothing on the teaser site  If today comes and goes and they havent even updated this early hype avenue, im probably going to close the book on Simbin. I started with Race 07 and now im playing Shift 2 (for fun and with physics mods). pCARS and rFactor 2 look like they outclass GTR3 already, so it'll take a lot for me to give Simbin my money in the future.

Interesting.

We haven't seen any screen shots of GTR3 yet, no information on features or anything, but pCARS and rF2 "outclass" it?

Seems your mind is made up before you have any facts. Smart move

I will buy this game regardless.

SIMBIN's track record speaks for itself so I doubt very much we will see any drop in quality from GTR3..........surely it will be their best effort yet.

No wait.... I'm going to make up some "arbitrary" time in my head that the website should be up. It's not up yet so screw it!

Ok, I get the whole judgement before the facts thing, but lets be honest, the screen grab of the pit lane wall looks like a moderate improvement over GTR-evo. pCARS already looks amazing, and with their community involvement, probably will only get better. oh, and since rfactor wasnt sucessful I guess that means rFactor2 will be crap to, correct? <-biting sarcasm. As an office worker, 4pm means just about the end of my day. I suppose Simbin and their s/w engineers work later or whatever, but give me a break. Core hours people. What if the site goes down, do you want to have the office empty when that happens, or staffed with your employees?

edit: I work in a simulation company that could conceivably do a game like this (we dont do video games but the potential is there) and I can guaran-damn-tee that we would never have a new website go live during off hours. Dont bother asking which company, since I know I sound like an ass in this thread :-p that would just be bad form.

Hell of a sim racing resumé there, Race 07 and Shift 2? Please, if your gonna flame Simbin for releasing details when they are good and ready, at least bring some decent credentials to the table.

rFactor 2, looks like rFactor one with some new visual effects and a bit of weather, CARS looks good yes, based off of the Shift 2 engine, still around 2-3 years away from release.

GTR3, we know nothing of, but even if it is mostly the same as GTR2 but slightly updated it will wipe the floor with Shift 2 and whatever other simcade games you play.

well... didn't say it isn't real. it's just that Simbin used to spice up previous R07 addons screenies with contrast and other image enhancements, motion blur and lens flare effects. look at the race injection pictures http://www.raceroom.com/en/news.html?page=1&news_id=156

As far as the Simbin question goes the way I see it this is the timeline.

-The original Simbin created the GT mod for F1 Challenge
-They got contracted and made GTR, GT Legends and GTR2.
-There were disagreements and part of Simbin (Ian Bell and others) split and made Blimey!
-The remaining Simbin team, still under the name hired replacements and created Race and the Race 07 base (I say base because they utilised it as their hub for their expansion packs)
-Blimey! had some projects going but soon morphed into Slightly Mad Studios
-While Simbin was developing their EP's for Race07, the newly formed SMS were contracted by EA to make Need For Speed: Shift and later, Shift 2 Unleashed.

-Currently, Simbin (With a lot of the people who participated in the GT2002 mod for F1 Challenge) are in the process of developing GTR3 while SMS (With the employees that left Simbin earlier) are developing Project C.A.R.S.

I think thats pretty much how it goes...

Strange maybe thats why i like Shift & Shift 2, as that was Slightly Mad Studios envolvement..that explains everything...thats why Project C.A.R.S looks so good..;-)

Still i have high hopes for GTR3..like always it will still go in my Collection of Race games and its a big selection, i think i still have there mods V3 on cd somewhere 8-)

Its unedited by them. Not by the game. Forza 4 does the very same.
Do pause, use available processing power to render a HD pic.

Hell even if thats 2560x1600 theres no way it'll run with say..16 cars at 60fps (well on most peoples PC's anyway).

TBH it doesn't look any different from any next gen racer really.

As for physics - well GTR2 aside (which to me felt quite different), they've all been relatively grippy really. Sims that are easier to play then the likes of Rfactor anyway.
But even assuming this changes the game is unliekly to have the rawness of pCARS (which few racers do if i'm honest). And that dirty gritty feeling which carried over from their work on Shift 2 is very welcome from me.

We'll see but i just didn't feel the Race to Raceroom evolution was a huge jump, but this is GTR and they're using a different engine so time will tell.

Image Space developed games for EA Sports Car GT the F1 Challange Series and Nascar Thunder 03 and 04 so Slightly Mad has tried to follow the same path but different terms with the inclusion of Console versions of their titles and once ISI ended their involvement with EA That ended any true simulation that EA released.

If I were SimBin I would sell billboard space to advertisers...

That might be the rare exception to my NOT wanting to see real-world advertising in-game...real-world tracks do have billboards, etc all over the place (well, at least within camera view) and therefore real-world ads placed around in-game tracks would not be so blatantly obvious (especially at, or above, 175 mph or so on the Mulsanne Straight).

yeah... in terms of sales EA probably made bad experience with pure simulations there. and they always had other versions on consoles which probably sold much better. ISI weren't able to do console versions.

I would gladly pay more money for tracks clean of advertising litter. Only the real life adverts should be included. The massive amount of "Raceroom", "Playseat" and "Simbin" banners all over the latest Race tracks ruined it for me. I HATE fake banners littered all over. Shift/2 did this too and I praised the moment mods were released to clean them up.

Yes, it would be a dream, and will be a dream, what would be important by simbin, is at least, they made it modding friendly and with a gameplay that support a full24h grid with 200 cars, lots of models and lots of skins, without the tipical GTR2 bugs in lapping the AI, and pit entries.

Then, the online racing is very important, I know, but is the offline what's matter!

Close but not quite. The original Simbin Development Team, or SBDT as it was called then, first made FIA GT mods for SCGT. Later the team made the FIA GT v3 mod for F1 2001 and then the GTR02 mod for F1 2002. It never ever released anything for F1 Challenge. I know this because I was a member of the team until it was dissolved.

A little while after F1C came out a corporation was formed with Henrik Roos called Simbin and that company made the GTR game. Then several people split off to form Blimey! with 10tacle as a principal investor. Blimey! was contracted by Simbin to help make GTL and GTR2. Blimey! had nothing to do with the Race series of games and packs. After 10tacle went bankrupt SMS was formed and they worked on the NFS Shift games.

FWIW, most of Virtua_LM left to join Blimey! for the development of GTL and GTR2. A few have since returned, a few are still with SMS, a few got better gigs, and some have bagged racing games completely.
