View Full Version : Damn i hate the internet....
After chatting with everyone in the Sunday night race, Prof mentioned he bought a G25 cheap......
Well 10 minutes ago, i thought i would checkout G25's on the net
7 minutes to go, New G25 A$192.50
It was obviously meant to be, so i bid and won for $197.50 :thumbup:
Now all i have to do, is wait for delivery, then hook it up and see how it compares to my Hyper, the button problem with the hyper is a pain. On Saturdays practice race, my view slipped with Track IR and i had no way of conveniently re centreing the view without loosing a ton of time.
Decisions, Decisions........
Steve
PS i blame you entirely Frank ;-)

It certainly sounds as if it was Prof. "FATE" to me!

:puke:
haha only joking!
Wow nice buy.
I've only seen them in JB for around $400.00.
Oooh,
A shiney new box has just arrived on my doorstep, well actually a dull brown box.... But you get the idea:-)
Looks like i will be busy tonight, if anyone has G25 tips or ideas they want to share, don't be shy:-D
There are plenty of threads about G25 settings in the GTL and GTR2 forums. Most of the settings are down to your own personal taste, so if you have specific questions let us know :)
After 3 hours of temporarily fitting the G25 to my Hyper, i have just finished a couple of laps of Bathurst, shouldn't say completed, because i couldn't do 1 clean lap.....
I kept thinking the Clutch pedal was the Brake :?: Damn, that is going to take a while to get used too.
I was really starting to despair :crying: Cuz i just couldn't drive with the thing, so i started trying to find setup information. I saw alot of talk about degrees of rotation, but in the profiler, there was no way to set how many degrees you wanted to use
After a little digging in the windows control panel, i finally found the setting  No wonder i was having troubles it was set to 200 degrees, that explains all the over correcting 8-)
Any feed back you guys want to give or profiles you want to email me, knock yourselves out. Getting the FFB setup will be a challenge, as i haven't driven with FFB. My old sidewinder had FFB, but i never used it as it seemed bizarre. "fasterthanu" has emailed me his plr so i'll also have a play with that and se how i go.
The degrees of wheel rotation in the Game Controller panel and the Wheel Lock setting in the GTR2 garage work closely together. A large wheel lock value with a small degrees of rotation will make for a very nervous car, and either increasing degrees of rotation or decreasing wheel lock can solve that.
In my experience, the standard FFB in GTR2 is very good when just selecting the G25 preset. The only thing is that SimBin have chosen to mainly communicate grip information through the FFB, and little body roll/weight transfer information. This can be changed in the .PLR file, though, but I'll have to look it up later if required. I changed that balance between grip and weight transfer information and love the way I can feel the weight transfer of the car now.
Check this thread (http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=248674) when you go and start tweaking your .PLR file.
Attached is a guide to the FFB settings in the .PLR file. I used it to tweak the balance between tyre grip and weight transfer information that is communicated through FFB, in favour of weight transfer.

I did too, also using Juls's FFB setup guide which redi has attached.
I reduced the grip weight mainly, but also tweaked some other things. In that guide Juls makes some good points differentiating between a realistic FFB setup and one designed to improve your laps times. That makes what your trying to acheive clearer and help a lot in tweaking parameters I found.
I'l email you my .plr when i get home rpo, but i would strongly reccomend going through that guide and setting things up yourself rather than blindly using someone else's settings. It will be far more rewarding in the long run.
P&G has some kind of FFB patch itself doesn't it? I don't know what it does specifically as I have my own preffered settings.
My .plr will have the details, but from memory I reduced grip weight, removed all rear wheel feel/weight, added a small amount of friction and damper (so my ingame FFB setting needs to be 'medium', and use 720 degrees rotation in the profiler and max steering lock in game. The idea (for me) is to make as realistic a feel as possible that i can still handle (i found with 900 degrees lock as soon as my car is sliding it's too late......mr glacier reactions here!:-P)
Also your previous wheel didn't have FFB? then do you realise for the G25 you need to tick the botton in the game to reverse FFB effects? if not you find the car quite hard to drive!
I have my old FFB profile somewhere for the G25, but you know my driving, I think you may be better off starting fresh... (-:

I don't know Bruce, last week at Cadwell, you were flying;-)
Getting used to the pedals will be the biggest challenge, do you guys wear shoes using your G25'? I'm used to socks for my Hyper, but the pedal spacing is wrong on the G25 in my opinion, or the hyper driving position makes it feel worse. I have been thinking about running the G25 wheel and hyper pedals :?: Time will tell, much practice and setup needed.
One question on the G25 profiler, do most of you guys use it or just program the settings within the game??
I use thin-sole Puma sneakers with my G25, though barefoot also works for me :)
I use profiler for GTL, since GTL cannot address all buttons of the G25. Only for the buttons GTL cannot address I use Profiler, the rest I program in the game itself.
All other sims can address all buttons, so I do not use Profiler for them.
I used bare feet in warm and sock on the colder nights.
I found the brake to be too linear in its resistance and difficult to judge. The porsche pedals have a rubber resistance block rather than a spring and gives a more 'hard pedal' feel to the sim.
The profiler i used to set the pedal axis only as I don't spend a lot of time in total (hmmm maybe I should!)
may be worth a paste and try? 11435

Final version of the Porsche wheel the foam is gone, and the spring is much heavier. I would need the G25 + PTW side by side to tell you which one is the firmer out of those two - I don't have a G25.
THe beta Porsche wheel had foam, a weak spring, and a short travel. It really didn't work that well. The foam was too firm too deep into the travel and it just acted as a semi-hard stop. The spring was too weak to give any feedback. The travel was too short, given the failings of the foam and spring to provide feedback to your foot.
Now the spring is very firm and the travel longer, so you do get a noticable increase in pedal resistance with displacement. I think it is very good.
Good old Hooke's Law. I did really like the concept of a foam spring, its implementation was poor.
Thanks hardjack for the update on the production Porsche pedals. I did beta testing for the Fanatec on the 911 wheel and moded my beta for the brake pedal feel (and repaired another problem with a break). Looks like I should take up my discount token and purchase the new wheel . (the only problem in the purchase site, they don't list Australia, I will have to sort something out methinks)
The foam spring was an excellent idea successfully RR Silver Shadow series, I think with a revist, possibly an conical sponge may have provided the answer???

Yes I totally agree... I think the foam idea had lot of potential. I'd love to know how you modded yours (split the block into two?) but we are already waaay off topic <scans back up to top of page to see what topic is>... yes we are a long way off. I've written a mammoth review of the PTW (http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=323608#post323608) which I'll post in Computech tonight or tomorrow, which you may want to check out.
Redi is also implicated in this discussion, as he was a tester too (and by the way it would be great to see him on the Aussie P&G server one day) :)
As for RPO's 'problem' of having two awesome racing accessories to choose from, why not use the pedals from the hyper? I'm sure you'll go back and forth, and eventually settle on something and never look back. Good position to be in.
