View Full Version : Pleasant surprise

So I'm one of the guys who thought long and hard as to whether I wanted anything to do with PCARS. I monitored what folks were reporting about the builds and a lot of the information coming back was fairly positive.
Today, I decided to give it a try at the team member level. I figured if it turned out to be bad, I would only lose $34...no big deal. I downloaded, installed and ran Build 192.
I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It is much better than I expected.
They're a few small gripes...(the menus are a bit hard to read without getting right up to the monitor and also could be a bit more user friendly)...but all in all, not bad at all. I had great framerates with everything maxed-out. The cars responded well at 2% throttle, 5% brake and 4% clutch deadzones at 100% saturation. I experienced zero lag. It was a very good experience.

Welcome on board!

Yep Menu font size has been questioned lots of times, but the whole menu system is likely to change umpteen times in the coming months.

Don't forget to make any suggestions you have for changes, as everything is read by the devs although they can't obviously respond to every post.

Welcome to the project, and make sure to report any issues and give any feedback in the WMD forums, that's what the whole community-assisted thing is about :)

Not really. I use an I7-920 based system o/ced to 3.8GHz on an MSI Platinum. It has 2 2GB GTX560Ti cards ...so not the latest hardware. I'll post a video later. I just ran my first lap of the California coast to test. I recorded it with FRAPS. It runs super smooth, no stutter at all.

sweet, yeah man would love to see that video. So was the SMS Highway 1 anything like the real thing, I'm guessing you've had some experience on the real one.

SLI 560s, nice job.

It actually is. The section in the sim probably replicates an area to the south. I'm further up north...near San Mateo. The colors, shading, light effect is spot on. My first run in PCARS on that road, almost had me believing it was Sunday. That's usually when I drive it most.
I love driving hwy1 so much, that one Sunday afternoon the wife and I left to go to dinner in Tomales Bay and wound up way up the coast in Ft.Bragg. I was having that much fun. The switchbacks headed to Stinson Beach and all through Dogtown and beyond are just fun to drive...especially with my turbo. It's pure 'point and squeeze'. A true driver's road as long as you're not scared of heights. Going off can land you down a 300- 700 ft embankment and into the Pacific ocean.

Today, I decided to give it a go at the junior level. I figured that at the very entry level, if it turned out to be bad, I would only lose $34
:?:

Junior is 10EU = 13US

I believe another name for that system would be THE BEAST!

Welcome.

Hey DoubleT I resisted it too, based on my experience with Shift. Glad I took the plunge also as it's developing rather nicely. Love how quickly things change from build to build - you'll quickly look forward to Fridays. Check out the physics thread where you can chat with and view the thoughts of the project's physics man. It's an impressive read though difficult to understand the technospeak.

That bridge section is really nice. Pop up grass a bit annoying.
