*** UPDATE ***
IMPORTANT: The version of the track has a problem that means the race aborts early. Attached is a modified GDB file that solves this. Or just edit your own and remove these two lines:

RaceTime = 180
RaceTimeScaled = 180

The file can be found at, or saved to:

<Install Folder>\GameData\Locations\Jacarepagua

In addition, the NoGrip server seems to have gone offline. Check in the lobby but we may be racing on "NOGRIP-PSY" server.

You will also need to delete the Jarapagua.HAT file from

<Install folder>\GTL\UserData\LOG\HAT

2:17's or less for pole. I'm on 2:21's and many people are finding the car/track combo a nightmare and stuck in the 2:25+ range.

It just doesn't feel grippy enough. That said, if you learn to drive it without going off, it can be fun.

Fastest lap of the race was a 2.17.9. Fully expecting various hungarians to stroll into the 15's and blow the rest of us slow folk away again......:-P:mrgreen::thumbup:

Ok, let me see what I can do. These powerful cars are not for me, so I guess I'm gonna follow the last guy in the race. From far away...:crying:

Wow. It IS fun. I did 2:19:1 after about 15 laps, with many many mistakes, BUT i think I will never be able to go a perfect, or almost perfect lap with this beast, so 2:17 and 2:15 sounds too far for me. But the car is awesome!

I would be very surprised if anyone manages a 2:15. Don't let Daz kid you into thinking that he's only an average driver. That 2:17.965 in the race last night was very quick, and Reppu managed 2:17.719 in qualifying. I really enjoyed my first ever race in the Daytona, and I can't wait for the WNR events.

I wouldn't worry too much about that time, mate. My best time before last night's qualifying session was 2:20.650, but I brought that down to 2:19.114 using the same setup. You would be more than welcome to try my setup, but you should bear in mind that this involved basically doing what I've done before with other cars, and crossing my fingers

In other words, I'm clueless when it comes to setups. Mind you, the tweaks have definitely helped when compared to default......

The problem is the same as in the following thread, as is the solution:

http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11708

The GDB file would need to change on the server and on all WNRers' installs.

Mogget
21 July 08, 15:25
Thanks, Heeby. I will sort that out as soon as I get home.

EDIT: The GDB fix should really be highlighted in this thread, well before the races on Wednesday. The lines that need to be deleted from the Jacarepagua.gdb file are as follows....

RaceTime = 180
RaceTimeScaled = 180

Presumably, Uwe forgot to delete these when he converted the GTR2 version.

Thanks Heebs, i thought that RaceTime line in the .gdb might be the problem - even tried inserting different values, but to no avail. Deleting those 2 lines does indeed solve the problem, except now of course i'm getting a .gdb mismatch on the server..

Presumably the Server track.gdb will be updated too, unless we're just going to run 5 lap races..

Mogget
22 July 08, 10:18
Maybe Psy can update the first post with this information ? Everyone who attends on Wednesday night needs to have the .gdb file corrected before the race starts, and the track on the server should also be modified. We don't want any more disappointments.

22 July 08, 12:21
I am guessing Joel might need to be informed to sort the server out. Also, this really does need highlighting for those who come to the racing without browsing the forum too much, just to stop any confusion.

HeebyJeeby
22 July 08, 12:30
Any server changes are Joel's domain, so he needs to make the decision to change over/not change over. I'll send him a PM with a link to this thread so he's aware of the discussion here - if he isn't already. :-)

22 July 08, 15:42
The server managed 12 laps on Sunday and the Wednesday races at half distance should be 11 laps so why does anybody need to alter anything?

There will be loads of people who wont even read all this let alone know how or be inclined to start messing around with gdb files.

If somebody alters it and uploads the altered version it might help but even then anyone who joins late on Wednesday would have to change things before they can race. But If you start changing things at this late date it will likely cause more problems than it solves.

I think either leave it alone and go for 11 laps or change to one of the standard tracks that everybody already has.

Mogget
22 July 08, 16:23
Based on my experience with the GTR2 tracks in GT Legends, if these two statements are left in the .gdb file, the race distance will be less than the number of laps specified. So, if we decide to race 11 laps, it will almost certainly finish after 10, or maybe even 9.

pmcclarnon
22 July 08, 16:31
And if we change things now half the racers will have mismatches! A lot of them hardly speak English and dont use the forums!

Gab///
22 July 08, 16:43
I just tried to run a 9 lap single race, but the race ended after 5 laps with the original .gdb file. If it will work at the wednesday night race, then OK.

By the way Daz, 2:16 here we goooo.;-)

Nice car and track, I'm a bit pessimistic though seeing the last race, not easy to handle the V8 especially in such a big crowd. 8-)

We need Joel to update the server first, but I reckon the best idea is to post an updated GDB in the race post and during qually, everyone who joins who gets a mismatch give 'em an urgent "Check the race post" chat.

If someone joins 10 seconds before the race starts... that's their problem.
They got a 30 minute wait to leisurely update the GDB and join race 2.

Now, if "I Iz Win" Heeby would just get his ailin' body back in shape we wouldn't have this problem - he'd have found the problem last Monday. ;-)

Nice work mate, not that it was me saying 2.17 was fast;-). I think the quickest guys may get into the mid to low 15's, if my lap was anything to measure by. Felt like a nice lap, but plenty to shave off it:mrgreen:.

Have i wandered into an episode of the twilight zone? No server, nobody in the forums, where have you all gone?

Have the aliens abducted everyone and taken them to another planet? If they have I hope they are not teaching them to drive like they do!

rookiedaz
23 July 08, 18:26
Well I am waiting like you Pete, so hopefully no alien abductions too for the rest. I presume/hope the server is not there because Joel is sorting the gdb issue.....

Hello daz. I was beginning to think I was the only one! I assume that is why the server is down as well. I think I will alter my file now and keep a back up just in case.

rookiedaz
23 July 08, 18:31

pmcclarnon
23 July 08, 18:34
I just copied it to desk top then deleted the files in the original. If I need the original just have to drag it back and overwrite.

It is always strange when the server is not there!

Hi, just got home.

Hmmm... No repsonse from Joel, no Server either?

This is a job for... Mrs Psy (despite being in australia)

I'll setup the NOGRIP-PSY server with the modified GDB

Not sure how many people it, or my broadband connection, will handle?

What would 1.5Mb upload handle? I think we've done 23 people on it once.

pmcclarnon
23 July 08, 18:45
I have done 16 in the lobby with 384k upload so should be fine. See you on the track.

Damnation, CTD on race start. Drivers' lap times board acting up & chat silent for ~5 minutes prior to CTD. Dunno if it was the .hat (forgot to delete) or the .gdb (altered it myself, got no mismatch -message though) or both.

Now everything should be fine for race 2, replaced the .gdb with the one provided here & deleted the .hat.

rookiedaz
23 July 08, 19:43
Yep, nearly managed a lap before finding myself in the garage, and unable to see or hear anyone. Just did fix posted by Psy, so fingers crossed for race 2.

pmcclarnon
23 July 08, 19:43
I downloaded the new file and deleted hat. ended up starting from gravel with the car on its side!

I really think that if we have problems with a track in future on Sundays and we cant fix it immediately we should switch to a standard track for WNR to save all these problems!

Yeh, i had all that too.. And i had already updated the gdb and deleted the hat file. Maybe 20 cars is too many for mrs psy's backup server?

Sorry for chat at start of brands race but on my pc it hadn't started! no next session, no 30 seconds, nothing at all. I was waiting to go to the grid and you were all racing!

Oh well. cant make Sunday because mums birthday so see you all next Wednesday.

Ok, i take that back! 2nd race was fine (except for Peter - unlucky mate). Made for quite an exciting mad rush in qually when you don't know which track we're running until the session starts.. Have to do that again sometime!

Race not so good for me though - fell asleep at the start, then made a mistake and came through last at the end of the first lap. Got back to about P8, then hit the wall and broke suspension.

Congrats to Gabor, and thanks again to mrs psy..

For the third week in a row, WNR has been crap. I posted a decent qualifying lap at Jacarepagua, then thought that something had gone wrong when nobody responded to my questions. Quit and returned, and managed to get 4th on the grid. Started well, but obviously there were problems. End of race. Sod it

Started 7th on the grid at Brands Hatch, got held up twice on the first lap, and then spun off when Kimi rejoined the track right in front of me. I only just managed to convince myself to carry on, but quit when I selected 1st gear instead of 3rd gear a lap later.

Really pissed off :-(

psyfungi
23 July 08, 21:20
Apart from the whole GDB mismatch errors, I think I overloaded my broadband uplink level in race 1, which lead to those error and problems. Not quite sure how GTLDedicated works - haven't used it that often. But for race 2 I dropped it to about 1.2Mb uplink, instead of 2Mb and it seemed to handle it much better. And of course, using Brands we sidestepped the Jacarapague GDB issue.

In the end, a decent night's racing I thought :)

EDIT: For some of us.

yeah, good effort from psy for getting a race going. looks like joel forgot about us. :-(

i started mid field at brands and surprise surprise got spun out at t2 on the 1st lap. it may have been sazbo or somethin! nothin new there then. sorry to psy for the first lap contacts. i could see u were having trouble avoiding the guys infront also. who was that driving right through u when u were facing the wrong way :?: very strange

the race itself was quite quiet for me. i enjoyed it though, i like that kind of distance and great car choice. its a shame so many people left the race, again thats a bit unusual for wnr races.

grats to the podium, some fast driving there from gabor, sawyer and daz.

We were practising about two hours in the afternoon for Jacarepaqua and wanted to run a 2:15 but it seemed too far for me. During the qualification I managed to run a 2:16.666  which I didn't want to bother, though I had a bit better PB before. After start I came off first, but about half a lap later the server reloaded suddenly. I was a bit dissapointed :crying:, but then I heard a number of guys had problems right after start because of the mismatches.

Second race, new track (Brand Hatch) came as a surprise, it was funny to spin in every corner at the beginning. At the end of the qual I could reach pole finally, but I knew I need to prepare for race, because a lot of NGR racers were faster than me. 2nd position after start, tried to keep up with Daz, which wasn't an easy job. After a few laps' pressure he arrived too fast into the first corner, so I could pass him, and then only tried to be as consistent as I could, even if it was slower. This resulted in the 1st place at the end. Great race, I became very excited each time, when Daz and Sawyer approached in the mirror.

See you next week!

Thanks for the use of the server psy. ...See you next week!

You're welcome Peter! And thanks. Given the hassle with Jara... I figured "Let's go back to something we might get through"

I don't envy Joel's responsibility for keeping 30+ drivers happy!
