I´m going to buy CARS but I don´t know what toolpack I should buy?
The $10 pack seems fine but for $25 you get reserved cars??? But I don´t know what these cars are.
Hopefully someone can explain what is the best to buy.
Thanks in advance
With the Junior (€10) membership you won't have access to the two open-world tracks, so I would recommend to get the Team Member (€25) membership at least. No other restricted content at this moment.

The $25 one is probably the best "value" right now. Weekly updates are much more fun than Monthly :)
If you get the Junior pack first just to try stuff out you can always upgrade later just by paying the difference. Gotta be worth a try - some of the cars are already so much fun..

Thank you. That clears up a lot. I did not know you could upgrade later. I´ll be buying it later today!!
I'd wait until the final release and buy it on steam for 10 bucks. At least then we'll know what it's like. I certainly disagree in paying to be a Beta tester or god forbid, a Pre-Alpha tester.

This isn't exactly Mass Effect 3 or Gran Turismo 5, Dogzero. Sure, compared to other games of it's style, Project CARS is carrying more mainstream hype, but it's not like it's so over-hyped that it'll disappoint everyone and fall into the bargain bin in a week. Unless you want it to, of course.

Sensible judgement would have it that you are right, pay less after release when you already know what others are saying about it than now. [Though...how long would anyone have to WAIT until a racing sim is finally available on STEAM or elsewhere for 10 bucks?]
But it's not that much either. 25$ is not 40 or 50.
If paying 25 is not too much for the poster and will get him something more than what he'd get with 10, why not?
And, correct me if I'm wrong, he doesn't have to be a beta-tester, he may want access to weekly releases but not have the time nor the inclination to post and discuss whatever he finds. Neither do we.
10 or 25$, he has access to something being developed, which is something that doesn't happen often in simracing development. Hmm, yeah, it may feel "unfinished", "beta", "alpha", whatever, but that is the nature of the access they are promoting and allowing for this project/product - it will feel that way, with all its typical traits for each phase, until it is finished and ready for release.

You are totally right. I pay a small amount of money in advance some I can play a small amount of the game in advance :P. I think it is a great game and it is atleast 10$ worth!
I personally started out with the Team Member toolpack just to get an idea of where the project was headed. I'm going to second Chronus and state that it is hands down the best value of the toolpacks because you get access to the weekly builds.
With a Manager toolpack, it was advertised that you could send PMs to the devs, but it turns out that a fair few of them have disabled that option, so that's a bit of a letdown though I imagine that getting flamed left, right and center by, shall we say, members not in possession of the relevant facts nor basic tact probably gets old in relatively short order. There was also talk of getting access to dev tools which also would work with S2U, but that hasn't materialized either (as far as I know).
That aside, I'm pretty happy with my Manager toolpack.

But then you can't play it NOW :-P
And you will be waiting a long time if you want it that cheap.
To answer the OP: 10 euros to give it a try. 25 if you want access to weekly builds and all content. 55 if you want to pre-order it as well (lesser memberships still give you a discount and profits though).
You can start with the cheapest membership and upgrade from there if you want.

Agreed, but at the moment, it's too arcade like in the handling department for my liking. I'll wait.

I've had more fun with the game in the few months that I've had weekly builds than the few months I had monthly. Being able to see the game evolve and get new content every week is great. It's improved so much since October, even videos will show that. If we are almost halfway from initial public release to final product then there is great potential.

Have you even tried any builds? How do you feel it is too arcade? Instead of just saying it is arcade and walking away. Tell us members of the game that have a say in how it goes how we should fix it. Personally I have never had as much fun with any other game I have played.
The progress that has been made in teh past month is just breathtaking.
The new stuff done to the Lotus car makes it so much fun to drive.
The changes to the R500 makes it so fun to toss around.
The formula rookie will teach you new ways to run a track since you have to keep your momentum.
Oh and the CLOUDS and weather system is just awesome. I now know what it feels like to go into a corner and it be raining when it wasnt raining the lap before.

I paid €10 now, and I'm getting great enjoyment out of it now... I don't care that it's pre-Alpha, It's the best racing game I've played since GTR 2 and Grand Prix 4. For €10 there is a lot to be had from this game. I'll likely end up upgrading to at least team member to unlock all the content.
It's in a remarkably stable state all things considered.

Your opinion is invalid and does not count if you havn't even driven this Sim. Please troll else were.

This last build (261) has moved things on considerably, the FFB is much improved and the whole thing just runs a lot more smoothly. If you're still undecided about signing up, fine, but you're missing a great experience. 8-)

Incredible. I express an opinion and I accused of being a troll. Childish from a moderator.

Hmmm I was actually trying to say that he shouldn't go into igniting another useless bickering session about who's trolling and who's not, but I see it could be misinterpreted.
I'm fine with you stating that you think it's arcade, even if you're only judging from YouTube videos. You'll change your opinion at some point in time anyway ;)

Maybe. But right now, a lot of members who do test the current builds are still reporting bad physics on VR etc. I'll wait for the finished article and judge it some more. And as for the feeding remark, we both know exactly what you meant.

Some people report bad physics on iRacing and rF2 too :-P
You just seem to have chosen to believe one side instead of coming up with your own opinion.
IMO it varies from car to car. I think the Caterham R500 is great, but maybe a bit too "oh crap I'm gonna crash" when you lose grip. Just haven't been able to control the slides as well as some footage I've seen but my skill/technique may be at fault too.
The Gumpert Apollo is superb. I just cannot fault it from footage I've seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU0mqzX3FD8
It's just so damn fun to drive because the physics, FFB and everything seem to come together so well for it.
When it does side, it just feels so natural, you can drift it a bit and kick up smoke just like Hammond does on Top Gear.
I think the Caterham R500 is superb, some of the best AI races I ever had! :)

Having owned and raced a Toyota powered Caterham and a Caterblade Lightweight I'd go as far as saying the pCARS Cats are almost true to 'Rea Life'.
Had some problems with Build 267 where gross understeer seems to have crept in but it can be tuned out.
And FWIW, the 'Formula Rookie' aka Formula Ford is very good as well, it tends to handle very much like my original ANFF1600 Elfin but it is around 20MPH slower!

It's probably not a money issue, everyone has 10 euros hiding in their couch/sofa.
But I here internet speeds are horrible on SA. So although SMS has moved to smaller updates, that may degrade your experience.

Yeah the initial download is troublesome at about 3.5GB, but after that the smaller patches aren't too bad.

I have the team member ($25) pack as of today the only thing I see still locked is the "Eiflewald GP" (however it's spelled... it's Nordschleife GP track in the real world). No cars are locked at the time of this posting.

Right now as of 2:30PM GMT+1 there's only 2320euro missing from 3,75M :-P

Sign-up to pCARS has been closed today as the funding goal has been reached. Only Junior and Team members still have the chance to upgrade to Full Member today and maybe tomorrow.
