I keep getting a Microsoft auto update nag to install Service Pack 3.
I'm hesitant to say yes because my system is running just fine. Has anyone had any experience with SP3 either good or bad as far as running the usual sims? (GPL, GTR2, F1C, rF, R07, etc.)
Thanks.

Hi Georgeo... we had a thread about it, back in the beta days and I think I remember it had a pretty good effect on our little hobby.

Well, i installed SP3 the other day, and cant say i can se any difference whatsoever. It loads just like it allways did, and no other glitches / differences anywhere.
I run GTR2 on Windows XP Home edition SP3.

Thanks - I guess I didn't look hard enough.
I might get the time tonight to d/l and install it. Seems like it's more likely to help than hurt.

I don't have noticed an improvement, but also didn't see any disadvantage.
When I got it right, SP3 is less an improvement for performance and functionality, more a sum-up of the most security-updates since SP2 and including the newest ones.

My own system was more stable after SP3... and the loading of some softwares (especially Photoshop) was faster.

I agree with Ralph B, SP3 is a security update, and i notice no problem with GTL or GTR2
If you already installed all updates since SP2 there is little to gain from SP3. My dad updated his laptop to SP3 the other day and after that XP wouldn't start up anymore, he needed to reinstall completely. There's always some risk involved, though in 99.9% of the cases it will go right.
I would say: don't fix it if it isn't broken...

i update all my boxes to SP3 via the downloadable ( not the "upgrade" in your update thing ) version ( 300+mb ). No issues on 5 boxes/laptop.

No issues here either. And like Redi says it is not much new in SP3, so chances that something goes wrong is very small indeed. I did not noticed it was installed on the first computer tbh. I had to check if it was.

sp3 enables MS to spy on you and be aware of hardware changes, that could make it harder for you to upgrade componets

Umm... what? Microsoft's not that stupid to do it again. They got sued before for doing that.

I installed SP3 on my laptop a few weeks ago and the only thing I have noticed is that it shuts down a lot quicker than it did before.
If you wish to install future security updates then I guess you will have to bite the bullet and go for it. Just make sure you create a restore point before doing it, then if anything goes wrong you can always go back to the way it was before you made any changes.
I would also recommend backing up any files that you don't want to risk losing beforehand also. Better safe than sorry.
