View Full Version : GC#3 add-on server: new tracklist

Hello all, as announced we will get a new tracklist for the #3 GC add-on server pretty soon.

We'll run the 'short list' for about one more month, and then it's time...

The track-committy (which mainly is Mr Pizza and Mr. Man, and then somebody with great taste to approve of the Pizza that gets cooked up), has lined up 25 tracks.
Those tracks have been turned inside-out, raced, mangled, fried and baked. They have been picked, plucked and roasted.
Then there are a heap more tracks - also advisable, but they were not the very coochie-coochie-coo of the track-committy (sour grapes: the other cars were faster, we just picked the 25 where we had best laptimes ;-))

 So, we have 10 spots and they need to be filled. Of course you can also propose a track that we might have missed and we'll review it.

Here's the list, which ten would you like on, besides the 25 'premium' tracks (OK, now, hint: pick the ones you are fastest on in your favourite add-on car).
If you think one of the premium tracks is absolutely and totally ghastly, we'd like to hear as well.

Which means: everything goes, if you just throw my favourite track in the mix. ;)

Of course, one of these:

Keimola - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=4167
Alastaro - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=8241
Ahvenisto - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=4230

would also be nice...

Nappe1
9 September 08, 09:24
My favorites would be Elaintarha 1963 and Imatra TT GP 1963-1981 layout, but there's two minor problems:
- Elaintarha has been made for GPL, but no one has converted it to GTL
- No one has made Imatra GP, though I have heard someone planning it for GPL.

Zieman mentioned tracks Keimola is good layout, but the tires sank on the ground in every corner kills car instantly if you go off road and Ahvenisto has few corners where you get cut track though you would have full car on the track...

Wasn't that corrected in 1.2?

oh... it might be... it has been a while since testing it.

and btw, DerDumeKlemmer promised to look at Elaintarha sometime... though it is not going to happen soon.

EDIT: and off course as old track designer from NFS days I'll dream to make the Imatra in it's all fear... with railway crossings and kilometers of straights. But as I have progressed veeeery slowly even with very simple Kimi Circuit (originally karting track, but should provide nice racing to Minis and Fiats) I doubt that have time nor motivation to build monstrous street track like Imatra was.

My list:
- Leipzig '67
:D
It didn't make it because of the 'lanterne'... whammo and that's the end of the race. Was fun, but we were looking for tracks for some good racing.
Leipzig '67 was usually more like a demolition derby

- Keimola
:D
Indeed it has a problem with every time you go off track, instant death (it's a bit like Leipzig in that way, this time it's tyres that are dug 50% in th eground, they are made of 'killerconcrete')

My list:
- Ahvenisto
:D
Indeed, it has problems with cutting track, try St. Jovite (I think it's very similar... but better flow as well). BTW: how about Hungaroring?

My list:
- Alastaro
:D
I think it is a bit bland, and the flow of the track could be a bit better... I LOVE the nordic tracks --> Knutstorp & Kinnekulle ring are much better tracks IMO... Maybe better Gellerasen? It looks better and has a much nicer flow ;-) But I'll deliberate with mr. Man and see if we can add it to the vote.

Nappe1
9 September 08, 12:30
Yep, I agree that existing finnish tracks are a bit bland. Some old venues like Pyynikki, Elaintarha and Imatra are far from that. Too bad that any of them is not made for GTL.

Ah, but this is just about being patient and not pushing too hard. On sunday we had a great race with GVRC people @ Leipzig. No probs with the lampposts + a few nice overtaking moves.

Hi,

to avoid a "demolition-derby" at Leipzig you have two solutions: less or more beer and/or drugs

For me Leipzig '67 is also a great track where you can have thrilling races.

OK then that has to go to the vote also, if I can get Mr.Man's approval

EDIT: OK, two more for the vote. Mind the poles. Luckily an Abarth TCR has the engine in the rear... can takea hit in the front.

Dear Messrs. Pizza and Man,

my choice of extra tracks would be (in alphabetical order):
- Brands Hatch
- Cadwell Park
- Goodwood
- Le Mans '67 or VLM Le Mans
- Mallory Park
- Rouen les Essarts
- Zandvoort '67 (or current GP)
- Zolder
- Watkins Glen Nascar

I really do hope my request finds some support with the members of your committee.

Cheers,
Brulaap
.

Pizzaman
10 September 08, 08:56
Hi Brulaap, Rouen Les Essarts don't know about that one. It gives me no good FPS.
Also, like Le Mans, it's quite a long track. More suitable for special events.
BTW we might do some, if we get enough 'clientele'!

Zolder is a standard-track, and I know some hate it. I doubt if it would make it...

I'll add the votes, and the tracks that aren't in for the vote yet. I know Zandvoort has several versions, if it gets in we'll get the most pleasing one.

Hi!

I might pop in this week thanks to your updated download list , although not sure yet.

For the current Finnish tracks Ahvenisto would be my choice for TC65. Its challenging and fun, although too handful and narrow for faster cars.

Kemora would be my second suggestion. Its not hosted here at nogrip (maybe this works http://download239.mediafire.com/wl7jcirzzjbg/giwmcmyn0bm/Kemora_GTL_1.2.zip) Its pretty wide and flat track but should work ok. I had earlier version of it, and only problem was fuel estimate for shorter track.

With respect to Rouen, it's worth pointing out that Der Dumeklemmer has a GTL conversion of the rFactor VLM Rouen track in the pipeline, but he is not sure when this will be released. I suggest that this track is added to the server as soon as it becomes available!

Pizzaman
10 September 08, 17:42
OK, Ahvenisto, besides the problem with being narrow, cut-tracks and maybe a bit not on the graphic-beauty side, also has the problem of FPS. I have tried it again a few times today, if racing on my own it's OK, but if I have two cars 'in view' it has very very bad FPS on some sections. Meaning that if we'd race it online I'd probably swipe somebody off including myself... and we WILL have faster cars, we'll get the Aston, 250SWB... the lot really. Concluding it has 'a few shortcomings'.... Maybe somebody will see to that in the future...

On the other hand, I am very fond of the nordic tracks (all of them). So, we'll please you Flying Finns: Kemora and Keimola COULD be added to the vote. I'll post a few pics here to demonstrate what's the problem with them (will take a while). Then I'll add hem to the vote, let's see how that goes.

EDIT: besides being a bit bland, Kemora is fine.. Keimolahas these... :crying:  You want them? :?:

If you hit one at speed, they are worse that the poles on Leipzig 67...

Zieman
10 September 08, 20:40
Keimolahas these... :crying:  You want them? :?:
Nope.

Before throwing Ahvenisto to the bin, we could check out v 2.0 which should come out soon. Oh well, it might come too late for this vote/list, but if it has ok FPS, I'd prefer it over all other Finnish tracks.

Pizzaman

It COULD BE one of the nicest tracks around... we'll certainly check it out. But right now, it has... well.. it gets failed on all the important bits. Like cadwell has only 19 pit-places (which is fixable and I'll do that) and a bit of a 'dent', the rest is good... and that's about as bad as it will get.

Any way I'll add KEMORA.

Brulaap, I'll add Zandvoort, guess we are going fo the current-day layout which is much better. The '67 one is a bit 'fast'. BTW I dove it in real life (Capri, X1/9, Abarth TC & TCR, Mini...), and you still hae 4 votes left...

C´mon Jukez, nine votes to go (I guess #one is going to Kemora)
BTW I'll grab the latest version of Bierbude, since Uwe modded it...
and most add-on cars have worthless fuel estimates anyway.

I've had a look at the latest version of Ahvenisto (1.2), and the Cut tracks have been fixed.

I looked at the AIW file with an editor, after spending about an hour fixing the one in the version I had.

Just as I was about to upload the fix, I checked the current track and saw that it was reported as being fixed. So I downloaded it and checked it out.

Pizzaman

I will too, but I think I have version 1.2 already. Which is wuith the bad FPS, certainly in the section on the top of the hill and around the lake (splash... FPS-dive!).
If that gets fixed it will be a great track.

I could add Hungaroring, like you mentioned (check hotlaps :-P). But for now I dont have anything else in mind (that I would really like or dislike )

Except the questionable Nords raceking. Thats beautiful, but more like endurace track.

Looks like we'll lose (as they have the lowest score):

27. Gellerasen Mmmzzz... must not be too many Mini Racers...
34. Sachsenring The old Tantra track... still good for TC-65
35. Essington GP Thought you'd like it - it's a good track.
40. Phillip Island I'm not too fondd of that one either
41. Crowne Plaza OK, can't be to bad to lose that one. Zero votes!
42. Birmingham We did that one lots of times...
44. Alastaro <see below>
45. Kemora prsonally I think Alastaro & kemora are a bit lacking in the eye-candy...
46. Zandvoort Nooooo! My former home-track!!

Hard to vote as I have not been racing much during last 5 months. I actually was (I think pizzaman will like hearing this ;) ) first time at GC-TC65+ earlier this week and took my first real podium since Melbourne by being 3rd in Nürburgring Sprint. The real special thing was that there was 3 Minis in top 4. Ross being second, me 3rd and Gilliland being 4th. :)

the upcoming Fuji will most likely to be my favorite, but outside the list from finished tracks, Porto and Vara Raceway seem to be fabulous tracks, as well as Rivieres-Trois

Other than that, I am on the lines of Jevgen.

Pizzaman
18 September 08, 20:41
As a matter of fact... yes! It is about the most horrible FPS I ever got from a track, a guarantee for a totaal pile-up, and a succession of 'Mondello Corner #1'...
It would be more like a survival course than a track...

Still, it WOULD be a nicetrack f it had some better FPS. But we'd all have to be very 'mellow' to use it, and it wouldn't be much of a race. I even wonder if oneMustang would be ABLE to overtake another Mustang... anywhere on that very narrow track.
I'd have to check for the other tracks, maybe you can help me remeber why they aren't on.
Damn how many we have checked? 150?

Naah, It's far from being survival course and I haven't noticed any fps problem. T1 is a bit tricky, but it's not an issue. Monza's first chichane is lot worse.

Exactly, R-8 Gordini is one of my all time favorite in Monaco. With the right car the track is very nice to drive and it offers some close racing between the walls. It is very challenging, but also more rewarding to get it right in Monaco.

Did it lots of times, that's why it's not on this time.
Good track though.

OK, so far so good, looks like these will be loosing... First three (Leipzig'67, Gellerasen and Zandvoort) were really close though. One vote short of the rest - which were all pretty equal. Greatest hits are Cadwell, Goodwood, Brands and Watkins, no surprises there. I AM surprised that the rest is so close. Makes me convinced that the choices for voting were right - they were close in the 'track-committy' as well.

43. Leipzig
46. Zandvoort
27. Gellerasen
39. Roskilde Ring
30. Castle Combe Chicane
34. Sachsenring
35. Essington GP
41. Crowne Plaza
44. Alastaro
45. Kemora

A few new tracks have popped up. These are:
- the latest version of Ahvenisto (I'll surely test that one as many love it);
- a track called Metro - seems to have a low-and high tex version- never heard of it but pics look good.

If enough people are interested, I'll have a look. Else we'll just save them for the next version.

For now, I'll get busy uploading the first 25 (as nobody puked) to our beloved admins. You'd be advised to mkea separate instal for the add-on server - it runs smoother, loads faster... and there will be no conflicts with any add-on cars that you already might have once we get the carpacks going.

I'll wait with the rest of the tracks 'till we got all votes - plus Leipzig 67 might make it in, and Der Dumeklemmer is workin' on an update for that one. Less poles? Or maybe more...

Mind that not all tracks, even though some are really OK, were in. Why? For instance, the server migh become a league-server. Yes, you'll allbe add-on league racesr. We'll sort-of-keep-score in a fun way. Then the tracks need to be 'do-able' too for the GTC-65 cars... else I know which one and who will win (that will be me in a TCR or BeepBeep2 in a 1310 )

You might know or suspect we'll be getting some other cars as well. That's right. We'll get a bunch of 'pony and muscle cars'. They'll be about the same as the Falcon Rally Sprint and the GT350... some will be faster, but harder to drive... you'll see.

Pizzaman,

That NASCAR track version of Watkins Glen is much better than the one we raced on in the (G)TC-65 league. It looks better, and it feels better....

I know, the other one has three versions, but FPS, looks and the whole thing is better in the one you mean.
Leaving the only advantage to be the three layouts... which we do not want.
We'll ditch any 'three layouts' tracks and keep it to ONE, unless they are very much wanted.
So - Watkins Glenn is gonna be the best-looking one indeed.

Actually - that is a unanymous decision by the whole track-committy...
