Some shots from the Historic Rally Association (Australia)'s recent Alpine Rally.

It was a fabulous event (I was one of the key officials, rather than competing this time, unfortunately). It was restricted to pre-1999 2wd non-turbo cars.

The "Alpine" is regarded as the world's 2nd oldest rally, having been first run in 1921.

No fewer than 10 former Australian Rally Champions (some long retired from regular competition) competed in the event, which ran for 2 days in the mountains of East Gippsland, Victoria over about 350km of stages.

The winner (Geoff Portman) was Australian Champion in 1981 & 1982, was in a borrowed car, and hadn't competed for about 10 years. He obviously hadn't lost his touch ! I was his 4th Alpine win, the first being in 1978. (His co-driver Ross Runnalls clocked up his 7th Alpine victory - more than any other competitor in the history of the event.)

Thanks for those - some hard driven cars by the looks of it
