A simple Google search would have got you here (http://www.rfactor.net/).

RFactor is like GTL, only 10x better.

I wouldn't entirely agree with that statement. I think that rFactor has a promising future, but right now lacks much of the quality found in sims such as GTL.

I'd box it in the "one to watch" category...........

R-Factor is different from GTL. GTL was released as a fully complete sim. RFactor was released early with alot missing from it. R-Factor was designed to have the racing community back it. I believe the community is the driving force behind the game.

Most of the content for RFactor right now is conversions from other games. From SCGT, F1C, MCO, etc. etc. Over time, R-Factor will be the sim all other sims will be compared to.

By the time R-Factor is published and released into the main stream gaming community, there will be hundreds of mods, cars, tracks and so much more.

I'd say that time is now =)

I think you're putting the things somewhat upside down here.

rFactor is the foundation on which all these other sims are based upon. GT Legends, GTR2, RACE - all use rFactor's ISI engine. GTR1 also used a modified version of the previous ISI engine, the one from F1 Challenge.

Just as amateur mods are created on a daily basis for rFactor, we can say that GTR2 or GT Legends are highly professional and licensed mods of rFactor.

It is futile to say this one is better than that one, because fundamentally, under the hood, all these games are the same. Just the content is different - you drive different cars in each one.

Not entirely true. They all use the same graphics engine. The physics engines are *almost* identical.

But the executables, the interfaces, and the online code are very different. Even RACE and GTR2 were not made by the same people, not using the same programming, which explains why the best Simbin game so far and the worst so far were released so close together.

Kongo confused!!!:confused:: :confused::
Is RFactor not a fully developed sim?
You mean programmers made it to be deveolped by tha public?
Bizare idea but then again...
All I've heard is that this game is realistic to tha T.
Someone said you even see bugs splat on your windscreen and that tha wipers actually work.

Could Kongo find a demo?
Jus raced GTR2 demo and well....It's too easy!
Cars get to top speed too fast and you can brake real late no probs.
I think I'll continue with ma fav cars and learn to race with difficulty first.

If you read carefully what I wrote, I used the words like "foundation" and "fundamentally"...so, yes, in a sense, you're right, those games are not the same of course, every developer has added something of his own, but they are very similar as they use almost the same engine, both graphical and physical.

I already used in some other forums the parallel to a family: all those games are like brothers, sister and cousins in a bgi family - all different with their own distinct personality, but than again all very much alike in some aspects, all having the same genes. :)

rFactor has enough content by default to be called a fully developed sim.

The idea is not that the public develop it further but to make it very easy for the public to add content. So you can make pretty much everything you like for it.

Working wipers...bugs splats on the windscreens...I thing that's RACE actually

It is futile to say this one is better than that one, because fundamentally, under the hood, all these games are the same. Just the content is different - you drive different cars in each one.

A sim is a combination of the engine used, the skill and effort put into the car and track models, the skill and effort put into the physics values used by the engine, and the choice of series which is simulated.

Just because sims share the same engine doesn't mean you can't say one is better than the other, even if this is only your opinion :)

Half Life and Quake may share the same engine but they are very different games, just as GTL is quite different from GTR2 and both are different to rFactor.

Yep sure is. So is Gunman Chronicles if anyone played that, veeeery similar to Half-Life. Jus wish Half-Life would work on XP...:( such an awesome game...sooo big...Like TES Oblivion ooh soo good...

Yeah GTR2 is very similar using tha same engine but very different.
The cars on GTR2 are a bit too easy to handle and they get to top speed very quick whilst GTL has Harder, unadultered handling cars and even tha capri takes a few secs to get ta top whack.
Not saying any is better although Kongo loves GTL and only has Demo of GTR2.

Yeah that game may be RACE...So what is that then?

One could call GTL a rFactor mod :D
Rfactor now has more depth than any simbin product ever will.
Take a look at rFactor central to get an idea of what's out there for it:
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/index.cfm

And btw, rFactor has something no simbin product ever will, lawnmower racing :)

One could call GTL a rFactor mod .

And you could call Half Life a Quake mod, but you would be wrong :D All the rFactor mods I've downloaded require rFactor to run.

Rfactor now has more depth than any simbin product ever will.

Rfactor has more breadth than any Simbin product but Simbin products (IMO) have more depth :)

What I mean by breadth is the range of mods available for rFactor is fantastic - from stock cars to rallying and indeed lawn mower racing and GTR2 will never match this. But in terms of depth, GTR2 simulates the FIA GT championship, and GTL simulates historic racing in more depth than any rFactor mod. And indeed, GPL is still the best 60s F1 simulation, RBR is still the best modern rally sim and for the moment at least, NR2003 is arguably the best NASCAR sim.

So to end this Kongo is going to say why bother with rFactor when you can jus play GT4?
Other than mods why would you want anything else?
GTL is an excellent sim and GT4 is a game and GTL is much more realsitic over GT4 but rFactor? I'd take GT4 over it anyday.
:D Sorted, I won't bother :roflmao:
