View Full Version : No Grip GTR Race?

I figure there must be some GTR simmers on no-grip.

How about organizing a small race at Oschers, Spa, or Barcelona?

I'm mega rusty in GTR but still would be nice to have a proper race, because my last few attemps ended prematurly due to the party bashers which roam the GTR servers.

Anyone interested?

To the best of my knowledge, none of the regular posters are GTR simmers. I just got it on eBay two months ago, for the articles.:D How about a small race at Oscherslaben, Spa, or Barcelona, in rFactor?:D

DOnt have rfactor :(

50$ is beyond what I can spend on a game which has to be modded to be playable.

Cause if you insist Ill get it, but lets make a deal. If I win you pay me the cost of Rfactor, if I loose, I pay you 100$.

If you lose, it will be because you are laughing too hard:P And it doesn't have to be modded. The original cars are fictional, but the ZR and Howston and all the open wheelers are a lot of fun. I'd rather drive a Howston than GTR any day. And ISI is making some great new tracks themselves.

Check this out.:)

Meh fictional cars are just not my cup of tea.

Hence never really got into LFS :(

And nothing beats a 550 around Barcelona lapping 1:38.xxx

The concentration, the lound engine, the hot tires, the boiling brakes......cant beat it man, cant beat it.

I've never understood that. Some people are hung up on "real" cars. As long as it's fun and challenging, I don't care if they are Wal*Mart shopping carts.

rF has all that, and better physics and graphics

Better physiscs? Well, unpossible for a mod team to gather the type of data that SimBin can, so the phsysics might be nice from the driving aspect but as far as replicating the behaviour of a particular car they just cant be as accurate.

sure if its interesting and made well its good.

But out of the box the cars/track in rfactor look like shit. Some of the mods (tracks in particular) look stellar but out the box material looks like crap. The colour palete is that of a cartoon aswel.

Just not ready to spend 50$ on a modding platform.

Great platform, great idea, but I never expected a platform to be at teh price of a full retail boxed game.

Biggest difference is in the tire interaction with the road. SIMBIN's cars still feel like single point objects to me. In rFactor, we can actually sense when the differential is working or one tire is slipping. I'm not just talking about data, but about the dynamics of the game engine.

Out of the box the graphics aren't as good as GTL, and the cars aren't as nice as GTR, but the same cars look a lot better converted to rF, and if you don't like rF tracks, I'll just say GTR's track texture's are even uglier.

Even if it is fictional, I think this is one of the prettiest and most fun to drive modern GT cars in any game.

The same could be said for GTR/GTL. ISI has had years of data from F1 and SCGT. It would be impossible for a mod team for GTR or GTL to gather the type of data ISI can, or has.

We can debate the merits of either game till we're blue in the face. I like R-Factor because of ISI's reputation for gaming (SimBim uses ISI's engine doesn't it?) and it's built from the ground up to be modable. The cars and tracks that come with it are pretty spectacular as is, and they are still adding and improving the game.

We'll have to wait 5, 6 or 7 years from now to see which is the better game.

I dont see what you are arguing mate.

SimBin has direct access to the cars and to all the telemetry data, hence GTR was encrypted because it cointained team confidential data ;) Just like the GTR car specs figures are all just broad round numbers in the garage, but encrypted real numbers in the physics files.

ISI with F1C and SCGT too had direct access to real data, maybe less so because of F1 and its super high secracy but still Im sure they had plenty enough to replicate the cars very accuratly.

Now rfactor is pure fictional cars, it is not replicating any particular car, its just a physics engine plugged in with numbers from top of the head.

What Mudshow is saying is that GTR is better when converted to Rfactor. How can that be if they cant take the physics straight out of GTR and plug them into rfactor.

Thats what I was arguing, I think you mistook it for somehting else ;)

I love ISI man, I've been wiht ISI from SCGT to F12001 through F1C9902 all the way to ISI Via Simbin with GTR and GTL.

rFactor doesn't just have numbers from the top of the head. The guys making the stock car mods are getting the same kind of physics data straight from the teams and engineers that SIMBIN has gotten.

I am also getting data directly from one of the 2CV teams, and my cars do lap times and corner speeds within 2% of the real thing.

Mate Im at talking about FIA GT in particular.

And the Rfactor stock cars do have numbers from top of the head, unless the cars from the box are some sord of industry prototipes on which they got data.

MudSnow

No they don't have numbers from the head, they are Ford Fusions. Only thing fictional is names and skins.
http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/2005/news/headlines/official/07/14/ford_fusion/fusion_xl.jpg

The Pits will be releasing the "real" skins in a few weeks, right after the next non-beta patch is released.

The rF3's are also based on real cars.

Back to original question, I have GTR and I'm willing to race with NoGrippers online. I only have to find a solution for my wheel problem first, otherwise I'm too easy to beat.

i just got GTR out of a bargin bucket at local store for an embarasing low price so maybe i will split my time between GTR and GTL ;)

only installed it so far may have a bash with it later see how it handles

not meaning to perpetuate any arguments but i downloaded and paid for rFactor not long ago and i'm afraid i asked and recived a refund for it prety darn quick as i didn't like it at all ............the cost of that game is a joke for what you get out the "box" i had read a lot of how good the game was so took the plunge and was very very disapointed, maybe it is improved with addons BUT it needs a lot to improve it's apearace from scratch to justify the cost ...{£30 ish UK price} i got GTL, GTR for just over Half that price added together

{{above is just MY personal opinion}}

Ha, I have done the same thing. I picked up GTL first since I heard it was a great racing game. I loved the game so much that I sought out GTR. I am glad I did. It is a lot of fun! There are more people on GTR at any given time, and the cars are terrific! I just hope when they come out with GTR2 they fix the off/online menus! They are very confusing! I have never played or heard much about Rfactor so I can't say anything about it. I am sure it is good as well. GTL or GTR I will do anytime!

well i thought i would revive this thread :D

i've finally got round to having a bit of time driving this sim and OMFG when we starting a league for this game :D:D still i drive crap but this is F U N :D

on a seperate note what the hell went wrong with GTL made by same lot as GTR useing same engine so just what did go wrong,

#1, Weather, how that should have been in GTL how can you have the likes of donington and not have rain:D:D

#2, Damage, the damage in GTR is far better than in GTL, wheels actually come off, body panals not just the spoiler come off, dents and bent panels are much better represented

#3, The AI, the AI is a lot more inteligent in GTR than it is in GTL you spin and are side ways on the track in GTL you history as any AI come along they just ram you out of the way don't even try and avoid you.
in GTR they swerve, go on the grass, even come to a full stop to avoid a colission what a pleasure to play the single player mode AND easier to learn how to actually race

i have to say i didn't get GTR originally as it wasn't my thing i'm more into the older cars as in GTL so i waited for that BUT since getting GTR after GTL i'm now very disaponted in GTL and wish i had got GTR a lot sooner than i did.

GTL should have been simply a mod of GTR using ALL the good out of that game.
i'll still be playing GTL simply for the cars BUT it won't be as enjoyable knowing just what it could and should have been like

k my review style rant over  ;)

SCGT - Still play it (crap AI) on my work laptop when things are slow, beats Tetris. Online 6 cars on LAN, 1999 what do you want?

GTR - Still play it, 50+ (Real) cars at Spa (Great AI)- can't beat it. Online too many mismatches due to repaired .aiw's, replay sucks. Day to night transisions take time, but are bearable.

rFactor - Great multiplayer and replay system, fun to Mod (Beyond crap AI). Got tired of one car model racing, SCGT like popup issues, and an AI that I'm sure is told it's "Special". Colour is pastel. Stopped playing, and Modding, several months ago. May pick up again if R.A.C.E.R. has a good tourny come up.

GTL - Still play it, never tried online. Sun effects are killer, large fields (Great AI) , smooth day to night. Replay system sucks.

GTR2 Demo - I've been on it all week. AI is Great, replay system works without jitter, all cars unlocked and 80 tracks converted, EB Games is pre order for $29.99. SOLD!

Just my thoughts on the Sim Wars.

Count me in for GTR racing. I think it's a great game. It's being available to join in at race time that can be a problem. I'll definitely do it if I can.
