View Full Version : rFactor multiplayer annoyances

Recently purchased the game, love the singleplayer, but here's the annoying part. When I go to play online, the servers either running a mod, or if they aren't, I get a exe\scn\etc. mismatch. Rather annoying as some of the mods require you to join yet another forum in order to download it, and one of the mods, the McLaren Challenge in particular, overwrite the entire game, (or at least it did the 2 times I tried to install it) and I lose my sp standings and all the cars, havng only a McLaren to race. While the McLaren is a lovely car, I would like the opportunity to race other vehicles. Do I need to run multiple installs of rFactor in order to run certain mods? Could you also suggest some sites (besides No-Grip) where I could download add on tracks, mods, etc. for
rFactor that don't require me to join another forum?
Thanks in advance.
- rFactor is a mod/add-on content based game. The original content are not used much. As all mods and add-on tracks and cars are constantly changing, being improved, the bottom line is you have to be always monitoring and be aware of the latest versions of everything, and constantly downloading those latest versions. It's a full time commitment ! ;) :D
- Till now only one mod, the NASCAR Acceleration mod needs a separate instal.
- No mod overwrite any original content, bar 2 known incidents in almost a year of rFactor existence, which were quickly rectified. So the McLaren problem you had was entirely on your end.
- The best rFactor site to follow and download contents from is http://www.rfactorcentral.com
- what's the problem in joining forums or registering at sites that do require it ??? I join and register to every single one I stumble upon while surfing. Cost nothing and could be usefull for any reason at any time in the future...

First thing, thanks for the site. Now here's the problem with registering for forums\sites. I'd just want to d\l some mods\tracks, and have them in my bookmarks for future info. Now I come back a few weeks later and have to remember, "gee which username password did I use for this site?". I never use the same name or pass twice, as I try not to be predictable. This leads to having to keep track of all kinds of user\pass combo's. No I'm not going to write them down either, as stated before, that would be predictable. All the user\pass combination's I need to remember are stored where nobody can get them, in my head. (My domain, email, etc.) I just want some files, not a hassle. Perhaps it's not a big thing to you, but to some of us it is.

Agree 100%, I finally have givin up. And I am doing the audio for a couple of major mods and have gotten to the point where I just wan't to say f 'it all and move on. Just to much to keep after so much so I have not been able to race online since a month or two after release. So many things it's a damn full time job just to run an online race. Need this mod with these 200 crappy conversion tracks and don't forget you need to edit your .SCN to match our server, make sure that you have installs one for 1070, 1080, 1087
. Oh and by the way were not going to tell you any of this your just going to have to figure it out on your own. A big fix for alot of this would be if ISI would host an unmodded server so those of us which have what we like don't have to horde 100GB's of crap to race one race online. For me at least once I'm done with what I have to do I'm moving on. Good luck in your quest The_Driver I feel your pain .....
I've been racing with the SNR guys for a few months, there have been no issues. I only race online.

Anywho, if you click the middle menu button then Race Weekend. Then choose the track and click race you will now load a race session. Providing no settings have been changed, it should be practise first, then qualifying, then warm up then finally a race. You can skip sessions by click the next session button just below the standings in the middle of the screen

Best way to do online racing i've found is to join a league, usually they will tell you exactly what mods and tracks to download and then what server to go on when the race is on. Race Department is a good one, as they do single club races for all skill levels. you will usually get quite large grids for these. I also race in the GBS stockcar league, who do championship races every week for various UK short oval classes
