High, just wondering how many Cars your PC can manage and at what circuit?
I'm able to run a field of 62 at Spa 2008 (limited by track or mod I'm not sure) with the GTSEC mod. All settings at max accept shadows at medium (to get rid of stutter) @ 1650x1080x32. I get around 45-60 FPS at the start and then comfortably above 60 FPS after that. See my sig for system specs.
Just curious as to any tracks or series that allow more than that especially as I'm interested in the rFactor VLN 2005 mod that's coming out and some of the ever expanding mods like the FFSA, GTSEC and GT Open mods for GTR2 and obviously the Endurance Series Mod as well.
Does GTR2 have any limitations to number of cars running other than the tracks support for them?
I'm interested to hear your experiences with large fields etc.
Cheers, Phil

Most of those mods would have standard cars and are just skins really so you shouldn't have any Fps problems.

I ran 53 cars at Spa 03 during the 03 season, however I did need to drop a few settings below full, some were below already, and I reduced a few more. Perhaps having the motec telemetry aquisition set at 50 forced the reductions.
I run 1440 900 resolution(native monitor rez) I've got an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 6000+ 3 GHz, with 3 gig ram, NVidia GeForce 8400GS 512 MB DDR2vidram.

I think it depends on your resolutions and graphics setting.
So when you race with different classes, vln for example, or le mans, you have more problems than racing with the same number but all same physic?
I still have the 7600gt and a notebook, and lowering the setting I've no problem except at the nurburgring

62 at Spa, but I have to turn off replays to avoid problems with AI and CTD. I also reduced some settings bellow full to medium, or even low (but as I discovered lately it doesn't have as big impact to the game as turn off replays).
Intel Quad 2.4GHz with 4GB RAM (XP 64bit and no swap file) and ATI Radeon HD3870.

I was surprised how well 62 cars at Spa (2008 version) ran.:-) Obviously the GTSEC mod is a mix of Simbins original car models and the 997 RSR, 997 cup, Ferrari 430, Gallardo and BMW e90. I'm guessing all the addon cars included are optimised as effectivly as the Simbin models. When I run somewhere like Long Beach 07 then I'm looking at around 40 cars to keep framerates comfortable (30FPS ish) at the start, but that track has a lot of close up well modelled trackside objects etc.
I've never tried switching off replays before. Is that instant replay or all replays? I could live without instant replay if it improves performance.

Over 30 cars at the start and my computer begins to fail. When the field spreads out a little though it works nicely. In the rain,, at the start of a race, I get an FPS of like 2 no matter how many cars I have.

Over 20 cars with medium settings depending on track and cars of course.

About 25 at most tracks...but I have most everything turned up fairly high...I like pretty...

I can go max with this AMD Dual core, 9500GT, 4gb ram

As stated earlier, it all depends on graphics details settings, AA and AF settings, resolution, specific track and cars, .plr file tweaks and even whether you are using FFB or not. Furthermore, "how many cars can you run" doesn't mean much unless you specify what that means, i.e. what frame rate you find acceptable.
Hence, unless you specify all these settings in detail and the frame rate you're getting with them, the number of cars you can run doesn't say very much.
I know, I'm a smartass...

Depends on the mod, depends on the track. My CPU (QX6700 2.66Ghz) is currently the bottleneck on my system. It sure as hell isn't my GPU (GTX295). I also play the game at the insane resolution of 2560 x 1600.
I can get smooth framerate (70- 100+ FPS) with the default cars and addon skins and number of AI opponents maxed out at just about any track.
Mods like Perfect Dark's Protos and JPBS will bring my system to a screetching halt if the number of AI cars is more than 40. My CPU simply cannot handle it. Unfortunately, I think my current RAM will not allow me to OC past 2.80 Ghz.
The rest of my specs:
4 GB RAM
Asus P5E
XP Media Center
X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro

Laptop? 16-18 of the MMG 2007 cars
PC? Probably 50-60 of the same.
I could put the laptop higher, but I like the smooth frame-rates on start, who doesn't :D

In an effort to get maximum FPS from GTR2, I've done some testing and I wasn't sure this was worthy of another thread so I'll post my findings here.
I have a Quad Core QX6700 and always use the Alt + Tab method to go back to the desktop when I'm at the main GTR2 screen to Set Affinity. Since some of these mods are such hogs on my system, the number of AI opponents must be 40 cars or less, depending on the mod.
Instead of accessing Set Affinity at the main screen in GTR2, I wanted to see what would happen if I waited until I loaded a race and was at the starting grid, THEN press Alt + Tab and Set Affinity.
Maybe it's just my system, but I see quite an increase in performance by waiting until the race is loaded to add multi cores instead of doing so at the main screen. Not only that, but if I exit out of a race, go back to the main screen, and start another race or even the same race with the same mod, FPS will decrease and it will not have the same effect. I have to exit out of the game and restart GTR2 and use the same method I described.
I know GTR2 adds cars randomly, unless you are using a utility like the car selector, so performance will vary with each race. But I've tried this repeatedly and it seems to work better for me.
I was hoping someone else with a Dual or Quad Core could try this to see if they notice an improvement in performance. Go to a FPS killer track like Spa or Le Mans that can accomodate a lot of cars to see what will happen.
I'm also using nHancer with CPU Multi Core Support enabled, but FPS is still higher if I wait till a race is loaded before adding CPU 1, 2, & 3.
If this has already been mentioned elsewhere then nevermind. I just thought I should share this.
Again, it seems to work for me but your results may vary...

This seems analogous to a thread over in the GTR Evo section, though slightly different. It seems to me that by fiddling with the affinity setting you dedicate one core exclusively to GTR2, but somehow only temporarily? That could explain the short-term boost, until other processes again 'invade' the core that GTR2 is running on.
