AI Doesnt obey much any physics in GTR or GTR2 so i dunno if its possible. AI doesnt have anything called "Tyre temperature" or "Pressure" or "Suspension" or anything like it :)

while in cockpit view or any other view theres no visual backfire coming from the ai cars,,,that includes replays,

i hope you thats a little better explanation,,:)

Yeah, that bugs me... I haven't seen it at all.

I'm going to poke around and see if I can figure it out.

teddie,,hope you have some luck,,if not maybe we can get some confirmation from racerm whether or not he has found a way yet,,,:roflmao:

My point was...

AI Doesnt obey any other physics in the game, so it propably doesnt simulate backfiring either from AI cars!

rhm

well that strange,because they simulate brake disc glow they also
catch on fire,, you would think theres some way to get all the ai to backfire,,,

gtr and gtl both has ai backfire you'd think it would'nt be to hard to
activate ai backfire,,,maybe it will be in a patch,,i hope,,,:)

Grodin:i understand what your saying,its just dissapointing is all

RacerM here, like you said in GTR and GTL all of the AI cars have backfire, I have been looking for the file in both of these other games that controls the backfire, so that maybe we can transplant that command over to GTR2, so far haven't found it, lets all keep looking for the answer. I am not going to give up.:)

I think that I discover something but with that it has been not yet solved.
I have download a soundfile(MZ3sounds.aud) for the bmw.. strange of it was that now also the backfire of my car had disappeared after install.
Opening this file..en was lacking there these settings...

BackfireAmount=0.6

VS_INSIDE_SPLUTTER=GTR\Splutter_int_Group_A.wav

SplutterAmount=0.5

After install this in the file(MZ3sounds.aud)...i'll get back again fire in the exaust.
perhaps we must find now the AI soundfiles and find out if there also something wrong, however...

Sorry for my bad englisch...

:up: Great , it fixed the missing backfire in my GTI Mod. :party:

I agree, I think the problem lies in the files that covers all of the AI sound behavior, we need to find the files that controls that parameter and maybe we can fix the problem.

:mad:: Also I think as many of us a possible need to email Simbin and tell them that this is a problem that we want a fix for and either tell us how to fix it ourselves or distribute a patch!

Solved.
The backfire is in the default.aud. Install this little patch and the backfire should work for every AI car.

No it wasn't me, the fix was by Dreivtel, but we tried it and it doesn't work, he is still trying to perfect it.

Thank You Zweidrittel...
Tried the "Ai Backfire Patch" , but doesn't work here.
Still hoping for a possibility to make this thing work!

Checked several files (also GTL) but cannot figure out how this backfire-thing works.
Monitors shows them,online Racers have them - but in offline mode...no way :-(

The AI cars do backfire. watch them for a lap and you'll see they backfire nearly every corner. You dont usually see it when racing behind them 'cause you're looking where your going....or that might just be me.

McSmith

No, they don't have backfire.

You can see backfire on AI cars if you watch the replay or the TV cam while you're standing in you box. Then you see backfire at the focused car. But only on this one.

Sad but true.

'I see, I see.' said the blind man. now I'm on the right page with everyone else. Now that you mention it, its quite a big let down. I never really payed attention before.

Its something that has driven me crazy since I have been driving GTR2, with all the features that the game has not having something as simple as backfires it nuts!. When it was modded to Rfactor the backfires work, that made it worst!:mad:

Well there is no more official support for GTR2 it seems, so any *fix* is going to have to come from the community.

Is that just a rumor about an upcoming expansion pack containing Nordschleife called "GTR2 Evolution". :cry:

I'm soooo sorry to bring this thread back up, but I recently reinstalled GTR2 and was reminded about this problem because, well, it still exists, for me at least. Is there any new news on this problem?

Dreiviertel

Not that I know of. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it. It looks like it's hard coded and not controlled by some files like the one I posted above.

Dreiviertel, thanks fore the response.

I did a little deeper research just now and I think I may have found the answer. I'll keep you folks updated.

I know it's been awhile but, has anyone actually got this sorted? 'cos playing Forza 4 has really made me realise how much a tiny flicker of flame actually adds to a game in terms of sheer imersion ;-)

Honestly, I didn't care too much about AI backfire (I'm more concentrated in driving lol), but after reading this thread (lol, it's here from 2006, and today it's the first time I see it) I decided to check, and I saw today that the AI cars have a working backfire, at least in free practice.
To be fully honest I tried with some modded cars (on track there were a Audi R8 and a MC12, both from mods by Skorpyo), so I have to check with some original cars on track.
Oh, and I'm on "full" speciall effects in the graphic options.

EDIT: Did another check and the original cars too have working backfire. I just have to see in a race weekend now....

Ok after further "tests", the backfire works only if you choose the external or TV camera of the AI car, only for that specific AI car. I followed an AI car in Practice with mine for 2-3 laps and not a single flame appeared; then I followed the same car with its external cam, and the bacfire worked perfectly, so I think it's a bug in the game's engine, never patched, and I don't think it will ever happen, unless Simbin doesn't decide to restart its official support to the game; opure uthopy.

Yeah, it only oworks for one car at a time (the car you are driving or looking at in a replay, pit feed or whatever) but it doesn't work for all as it did in GTl and GTR.

You might be right about the bug Totenkopf as i can't find any thing....
