Okay, first, I am in Canada and just picked up GTR2 with GT Legends. It's one DVD and 3 CD's and I can easily see my online codes on the single 4 media case, but no keys for installing the damn games in the first place. This is not a good thing.... sounding a bit Codemasters here and there screw ups.

Anyone else buy the GTR2 Bonus Edition with GTL and if so, where did you find the damn keys for installation.....

NOTE: I am not asking for keys, just their location as it's a two hour drive one way to return the damn thing....not a hampy camper....

GTR2 only needs the online key - there is no 'CD Key'

my GTL recquired a CD key(printed on the dvd) to install and then the online key for online racing

Actually, I just found the key for GTL here: http://www.viva-media.com/support.php?osCsid=c656bb1d2622a258458813004b0ae2d 2

I guess they screwed up somehow and thanks btw for the headsup on GTR2. Believe it or not, it's GTL I actually have more interest in but hey, $30.00 CDN for both, why not....

Buddy - you 1000000000000000000000% correct

I just went and tried to install the "bonus" GTL on another PC (I have an orginal installed here) and sure enough... you get all the way to start the game and it asks for a non-included CD key

It looks like these SimBin clowns once again have made money through dishonest means.

They better grease up their calculators... their distributors have pissed off one to many US residents now.. I think its Class Action Lawsuit time ;) :P

Distribution of GTR2 or GTL and inclusion/omission of serial numbers has nothing to do with Simbin.

And how is Viva Media forgetting to include the CD key "making money through dishonest means"?

Viva do seem "accident prone" though, as they left off the on-line serial number on the original release.

It has everything to do with SImBin - everything, distributors and publishers do not exist in a void, and the money follwos a path from my pocket to theirs.

They have evrything to do with it.

And since the very first copy of GTR went on sale and started making money for them they have insulated themselves from the porr suckers who buy their stuff.. and seem to have been plagued with more distrubution, copy-proteciton, coding and online bugs that any other PC game franchise in history.

What a poor track record.. its .. its ... its almost like its planned .. ;) :P

I mean eben though we all make fun of Need For Speed, as an example.. sure its arcadey crap, but you know what.. its well made, robust and well distrubited.

And has been since day 1.

Perhpas it's time the SimBin guys started thinking about the end users and their customers instead of choosing the cheapest and most poorly run publishing channel in the world.

Then again, maybe you enjoy getting the shaft and having to be subject to frustration and convoluted mechanisms just to use what YOU paid for.. :P ;)

I'm sorry but you haven't got a clue :D

This is not how the games industry works. Especially in the declining market for PC racing sims, the publisher calls the shots. The publisher decides which games get made and which do not. The publisher pays the developer to produce the game which the publisher then owns. The publisher decides who distributes the game (link (http://www.gt-legends.com/news_en.php?news=20050811)). And in this case the publisher owns the developer of GTL and GTR2.

I have had no frustration or convoluted mechanisms just to use what I paid for as I live in the UK and got my copy of GTL from ATARI. I do sympathise with those in the US even though it would appear that they didn't really pay anything for the the copy of GTL included in the bonus edition of GTR2. My point is that its nothing to do with Simbin.

No doubt you are relieved that RACE will not be distributed in North America so you won't have to put up with all the hastle you've had with GTL.

Why is it that every tom dick and harry ASSUMES they know what other people know?

The publisher only decides because the developer sold out.

If this is the case, all the podunk dust-bowl shit-hovels that probably have a total sales of 5,000 copies.. :P

It has everything to do with SimBin - everything - they made the decision to go the route they did.. maybe they should have gone for the real money and released their title for the XBox and PS2 ;)

Everything comes to US.

Everything ;)

Unlike many retailers here that choose not to sell to overseas locations, cash strapped retailers outside the US will do anything to get Internet and eBay sales from this side of the pond ;)

Not always my friend and these days, not everything comes to the US first. It appears that some games even take over half a year after they have been released in Europe to get to, and it should read, North America. World Racing 2 and FlatOut 2 come to mind as the most recent examples. Still waiting for a FO2 patch for the NA release.

But having connections with a few devs it is true.... Once the publisher has their hands on the source, the Publisher is in total control which is why you go to the publishers site for support, and not the devs. I have beta tested a number of racing games over the last seven years or so and still get free copies to a few releases because of friendships created over that time.

Geting back on topic, CodeMasters who is both Publisher and Dev missed supplying the DVD key in RD3. And I feel for our racing buds in Europe and Australia who pay more for the same product, that really sucks guys. It is a global racing community btw......

Actually - if you read what I posted in the conext and in completeness - you would be aware that I said (and I stand by this fact) everything gets to the US.

Everything.

WHy do I say this? Because unlike many US retailers that might not want to ship product to Europe... I have been able to buy everyhting (games, slot cars, die cast, books, engine parts etc etc) from European retailers who are hungry for sales.

They often sell via eBay or even directl.
In otherwords, everything comes to the US.

Everything.

It should read US bacuase I typed US... I don't give a hoot about Canada.. If I did, I would have moved there and not to the US.

Then buy the euro release over the net and be done ;)

And exactly how is the terms of their contract my problem?

The big names write their own terms.. the small guys don't.

Pity you can't use these friendships to get the patches, CD keys and what not.. ;) :P

Maybe they need to buy the cheap stuff from here then.. ;)

I'm sure RACE will be imported to the US. Gogamer will probably stock it as they do Richard Burns Rally, another title not distributed in the US. And of course you can import it yourself by ordering from overseas suppliers.

But since you despise Simbin so much hopefully you will resist the temptation to obtain it :)

My point is that in the PC racing sim world there are no "big name" developers - they are all "small guys". The racing sim developers we might think are "big names" such as Papyrus and ISI, in your terms, still "sold out" to Sierra and EA.

In post #13, for some reason you've used my name rather than Roadhog's name in most of your quotes.

It will get here one way or the other.. Even if no one ever sells it here, it will get here.
