Hi everyone and 1st off I'll do a combined huge thank you to all the fantastic modders out there for this game! I've been regularly astounded by the quality of tracks being made/converted!

But I have a problem, and would like some advice. I'm unable to go fast enough in qualifying. For example, the first unlocked GT3 custom championship. I can do a 1.49 at Barcelona, which is 5 seconds off pole and 2 seconds off the next slowest car. Yet in the race I can quite easily get up to 4th/5th and at the end of the, albeit short, race my fastest lap time is again a 1.49 but only 1 or so seconds off the leaders. Why is there such a difference in qualifying? I use soft tyres and max revs, I have a rear wing setting of 8 (lower and I struggle to go fast due to oversteer). What I do know is that I have huge amounts of understeer and I've read info that the default setup is "understeery" and safe, I've downloaded other setups but all so far have had too much oversteer and I struggle to get into the 1.50's. I've also downloaded a load of guides etc and slowly digesting the info, but it's slow! I'd like, if possible, some advice from seasoned veterans if I'm doing something obviously wrong!

Is my lack of qualifying pace due to the understeer? Does the Ai have special Qualifying setups?

Overall I'm hugley impressed with the game, but I don;t want to reduce the Ai's speed down to give me a chance of qualifying well as it makes it far too easy to win the race.

thanks in advance for any advice.

Well, good as place as any to have a first post/reply.

For qualifying, are you hitting your marks? I mean, when you come into a corner are you braking at the right spot and hitting the apex correctly? Corners is where all your speed is gained or lost. Just screwing up a few can leave you with a slow lap. Same with the AI, they are going to hit the marks pretty much every time because they are...AI. So there times will be consistent most of the time.

Which leads to the race. Keep in mind when the race begins the AI will run the best line available to them, and sometimes run slower because they hold the qualifying line when it is slower because of the slow cars. As the human driver you can make new lines to get around them while it is possible the AI won't try the dive bombs and late braking moves.

Good luck. Hope to see you online.

Thanks for the reply :)

I totally agree that I'm losing the time in the corners. I'm learning the game so probably not hitting brake points etc spot on, i'm trying to hold similar lines to the Ai but the front pushes and I just have to back off to get round the corner. If I could solve the understeer (without getting too much oversteer as a result) then I'm certain I could get a 1.46/1.47 easily and would then just need to practise. It's just that it's a bit soul destroying to drive out of my skin and still be way off the qualifying pace!

Download some of the setups that are out there, and also try out the setup guide that was released. It is usefull for trying to tweak a car.

soften the front springs some. Watch your tire temps, tweak the sway bar,

And when you do those things, do one thing at a time. That way if there is a improvement you know what improved it. Once you get the hang of how everything effects the handleing you will feel comfortable doing multiple tricks to solve problems.

Many thanks for your advice Bj, I've been reading up on setting up a bit more and I'm going to try a few things out, one at a time as suggested.
