Some circuits lag. :/

Well, my specs are:

ATI R 9800 Pro 128mb (used to have a 6600gt, but it died on me :(.. )
Allied 2x512DDR Ram
Athlon 2500+ XP
Audigy 4

:/ Don't feel like posting the rest.. I just recently managed to revive this computer from the grave.. anyway

So, I can run GTR2 perfectly fine. It runs great throughout driving school, and some of open practice. By some, I mean the circuits. Some circuits that I usually practice on such as Hockenheim runs fine, perfectly fine. But if I load up Dubai or some other circuit etc, it'll just lag my whole game. The weird thing is, when I load Dubai again in Driving school, it's perfectly fine. I'm a little confused as to where I should modify the video settings.. I don't want to get it too low to a point where the game is not graphically amusing.

Help?

same thing here, but me i figured out that its because of the number of AI controlled players there is in the circuit. lower it down to 20, like i did, and you should be fine. i run everything single thing to full and i put 20 visible cars and the game runs at 60fps

Ah, i narrowed the cars down to 16. I also turned off shadow and some detail to other things aswell. Though, in the championship seasons, I lag like no tommorow.. :(

If you experiment with your resolution settings in configuration you will see that it is there that you can get the biggest savings in FPS. At 800x600 cars in the distance look a little naff though. and don't try 16bit unless you really have too because you loose your instruments in cockpit!:eek:: I found that out the hard way:(
