Hope this is the right place to ask...

I got a copy of FRAPS, seems pretty straightforward to use... so I tried it, but it only recorded video, no sound. Checked the help file, it said to make sure the right sound recording devices is selected etc... Under the "Audio" tab in Sound, the options I have are "HD Audio Digital In," "HD Audio Front Mic," and "HD Audio Capture." It had been set to HD Audio Digital In originally.

Under Properties in the Volume control with this, I had no options whatsoever for a device to check. I tried switching to "HD Audio Capture," which gave me four options under Properties to check: "Stereo Mix," "CD Audio," "Line In," and "Mic In." The only one that makes sense to choose of these for us "Stereo Mix," but when I check that off and adjust the volume, I get static and white noise in the FRAPS capture instead, so clearly that's not where the Audio Input is.

What gives? Is something fundamentally missing from my Audio setup in Windows? I've never had any other trouble...

In the movies tab of FRAPS under the heading Sound Device you should have the same as the sound device you see in your Sounds and Audio Devices in Window Control Panel. You also have a Detect best sound input button that should, i imagine, actually make sure this is done for you. For example, my sound device in control panel is: Realtek AC97 Audio and FRAPS has set this as the audio recording device.

So in summary you should go to the movie tab in FRAPS, check the Record Sound box and the Detect best sound input box and check the Sound Device is the same as your control panel device. I use stereo mix.

Hope this helps.

Nope :(

I have those exact settings, and all I get its white noise on the videos. This is for any game, not just GTR2.

What's odd is that, under the Audio tab, for Sound Recording, I have HD Audio Capture selected, but the Volume button below it does nothing when I click it, and the Advanced button is faded...

Strange. I suggest you go to the FRAPS website and contact the authors for help on this one. Sorry i couldn't be any more help to you but I have not seen this problem before.

A few tips on fraps:

*Always record in half size, full size is a waste unless you plan to watch the vids on a HD TV at 5000GB filesize.

*Save the recordings on a different harddrive than the one with Windows. More fps.

*Set fps capture to 30-40 fps, again, anything more is a waste, and will make the files way bigger than they have to be before editing in video program.
