In investigating my Pace car problems (with the help of GUPSTER, thanks mate), I came across a link to an AIW editor for rFactor. Is there a similar editor for GTR2?

I think you can use the one from rFactor. GTR2 is using the same file formats....

hmm it seems to be only an editor for rFactor, god knows if it's possible to get it to work with GTR2. I doubt it and I darn't mess around.

Im not sure but i think you may need to have the rfactor game to use the editor but dont hold me to that.

All the best

So is there still no AIW editor for GTR2? I tried the rFactor AIW editor but I don't own that game and can't get it to work.

I have tried the editor for rfactor, but it refuses to work, it seems you need the game itself.

but i was able to load my current wip track's aiw into the old F1 aiw editor.

hope this can help

i tried that f1 aiw thingie also. the interface is really weird in xp, parts of it have no background, and its hard to tell whats what. i did notice when i saved an aiw file a lot of stuff was stripped out of it. so i kind of think it might not work, then again, i don't know for sure.

please post any results you have.

i have a quetion also: will an aiw file for a gtr2 track work with the same track in gtl? the nurberg village track in gtl has all kinds of track cut errors, i ran it thru the gtl->gtr converter and it works great. can i dump that aiw back in the gtl one?

all aiw files work in gtr/gtl/rfactor they are the only things that are simliar in the game's engine.

Aiw editor requires are rfactor, because it calls the orignal program.

To edit a aiw in rf-aiw editor, you have to convert it before to rf. :p

There is no other way. The aiw from rf can be used in GTR2 withot problems.

There is this editor from Pontiac51 over at RSC.

JImola - AIW Editor
http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=290925

Here are the features that he listed.

"Features:

* edit waypoint data (waypoint postion, waypoint perp. vector, cut lines, track lines)
* mouse navigation (rotate, translate, zoom)
* AI line dry and wet (changeable in 0.1 steps)
* groove and density of groove (0.45 GTR, 1.00 GTL)
* import sceeenshot from 3DOEditor (to scale), can be moved around vertical axis
* on savin an AIW points are numbered and commented (grid, pits)
* on redraw/reload focus stays on last point
* rollover help
* "Top" and "ISO": change view to bird's eye or isometric
* on saving an exisiting AIW will be renamed to .BAK
* on loading the actual path will be saved in jimola.ini
* AI speed can be changed in 3 steps: default, faster or full. Changes are shown with green cones.
* pitroad on/off
* button "BG" for changing background color (saved in jimola.ini)
* load and save logs"

It works for GTL, GTR, and GTR2. I've loaded it up and looked at some GTR2 AIW files but didn't change anything. It seemed like the interface was a little non-intuitive, but I didn't spend a lot of time with it.

yes totally agree with you roland, i not a person who likes to edited by numbers.and i found it very hard to move around the track.on that it a good referenc point to see where you went wrong on screen.

sorry gti_hetizer: i know you better than me at building tracks but i try the rf aiw version in gtr2 and it seem to be no problem. all you need to do is adjust the waypoint spacer :P i usally put about 7.00 in the variable, that way the ai cars have a larger gap to pull out from.

I tried out that JImola program. Just tinkered around with some tracks, not really saving anything. Then one day I started it up and couldn't get it to run again. Reinstalled all the programs it calls for, and believe me that is alot of them, but couldn't get it to run again.

Same thing happened to me. Tried it the other day and now it doesn't work. I'm just going to wait for the next update: http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=290925&page=3

you can download rf and install it..http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=downloads - now you have 60 minutes freeplay.

there is no different for the rf-editor if you activate/buy it or leave it.

But atlast you have a install to get the editor working :D

rf-AIW-Edit.EXE I use very often on Windows-XP for gtr2. DOS-surface a little bit old-fashioned. I need NO rFactor-game for running!?..? I open rF-AIW-Edit as ONE program, than open the appropriate AIW-file in a text-editor on a second window on screen. Then I switch between the both programs / windows. If I have altered some points, I save the aiw-file and reload it in rF-AIW, not a brilliant method, but it works.
AIW-files I make "by hand" with 3DSimED and my tool IntrPolT.LST (see "Fight-4-AIW" here on nogripracing, example: Dangerous Kesselberg)
With Jimola I made similiar disappointing experience like others here in this thread. I deleted it from my development-pc.

There are 2 aiw editors for for rfactor.
rF_AIW_CAM_336.exe works outside of the game in it's own window. This one will also open GTR2 aiw.
rFactor AIWCAM Editor.exe starts your rF install and works from inside the game. See MadCowies vid on how this works. The vid is on RFC. This won't work in GTR2.

You are right. Thats the way I also go.
Pace car must be set and the groove must be recalculated, when using aiw's from rf-aiw editor.

I have downloaded the 1 GIGABYTE rfactor file and installed it. I have also downloaded rF_AIW_CAM_336.exe. I get an error message "Binkw32.dll could not be found, re-installing the program might fix this problem" I HAVE re-installed it to my desktop and still is doesnt work.(same problem) Were do I installl this tool too? What may be my problem? Does it need to be in the same folder as Rfactor? Thanks for any help.

You must install the aiw program into rfactors root folder.

You must install the aiw program into rfactors root folder.

Did that; Now when I click on the editor, it starts rfactor and then my system crashes. I have at least 3 versions of this file and this one causes my system to crash, the next one wont work on any AIW files but rfactor's and the third one wont work at all. I think I have to convert my GTR2 AIW files to rfactor to edit them ...now all I have to do is find the converter.

Mr Man
8 August 08, 21:08
Can you start rFactor at all? And ofcourse it is important that your rFactor version is the same as the aiw editor was intended for.

9 August 08, 10:18
Yea, I can start rFactor and play it. (Version 1.255) I dont know which version of rF_AIW_CAM_336.exe I need. If I do a search on google for rF_AIW_CAM_336.exe, I only get this thread. LOL. :)

Hey gus, sorry for digging up such an old thread, but I have a problem that I need help with.
I have a track that is converted to GTR2 from rFactor. It works fine, only there is a point on the s/f straight, where the AI slow down hard. I used the rF AIW editor and madcowies video turorial to get rid of the problem in rFactor (I selected the waypoints and clicked on "normalize curve") and in rF the problem is gone. Using that AIW in GTR2 however, the slowdown still persists. Is there something I have to do different for it to go away in GTR2?

Hmm... well is the Fast path on the straight now totally straight? :D
Any kind of swerve if it's not very long even may cause the AI to hit the brakes.

Could also be corridors are not set properly, check them too.

May I ask the track? Don't worry if it's a personal conversion.

The track is Reims67, GPL conversion.
There was a swerve on the straight, right before the Dunlop Bridge, although it didn't really look like much on the fast line, it looked rather like a waypoint marker was missing. But the normalize curve option ended the problem in the rFactor version, only in GTR2 the cars still slow. I tried adding a waypoint marker, but then the fast path had a hole in it every time I selected waypoints and clicked normalize.
I could of course redo the fast path, but I thought it might be easier this way.

Khan1670
20 July 09, 16:16
Had a look and I think it was the corridors mostly causing the problem. The pits are open to the track and the corridors for the pits and track are overlapping. GTR2 doesn't like this and will behave oddly if it happens.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the AI was slowing for cars in the pits and not for any kink in the fast path. I didn't really notice any kink in the line that would cause a slowdown.

Anyway tris this AIW and see what happens,

http://www.yousendit.com/download/Y1RxU2VvQTZubVhIRGc9PQ

Note this is altered from the original AIW and I didn't fix any kink in the fast line.

That was my first instinct, but I didn't want to sound like a complete noob for saying it :-P It works now, thank you!

Could you perhaps tell me what you did exactly? I always like to know how a solution works, so I don't have to ask again ;)

Khan1670
20 July 09, 17:25
Well I adjusted the corridors of the pits and main straight so they don't overlap.

Go into the AIW editor and under the "show hide" menu click "show corridors".

Every way point will now have a red/white line through it. Red is the drive-able track to the right of the waypoint and white is the left.

In the bad AIW the left side corridor for the pits waypoints extends out all the way to the far left of the track, while the right side corridor for the main straight waypoints extends way over into the pits. Also the actual pit spot corridors also extend onto the track.

For GTR2 proper corridors should not overlap. So basically I adjusted the left side pit corridors so they only extend to the edge of the pitlane and the right side corridors on the straight to the border of the straight and pitlane.

You adjust the corridors of each waypoint by selecting it when corridors are displayed.
Then use the ctrl key and the arrow keys to move each side. The up/down keys move the left side left/right and the left/right arrow moves the right corridor left/right.

Try it on a single waypoint somewhere.

I'd load the bad AIW in the editor and then load the one I just gave you and you'll see the difference quite easily in the corridors.

Do you have to have Rfactor installed to use that AIW editor?

Khan1670

Yes, the rFactor AIW editor loads the track in game and overlays all the waypoints and their properties essentially.

I would like you to know that the latest version of JImola is available again. Im a bit ashamed that you people find it so hard to work with and would appreciate any more input, cause i am currently in getting the next version out. Please download the latest version at sourceforge or leave a comment at VirtualRacing e.V.

SourceForge (http://forum.virtualracing.org/gtr-allgemein/50989-jimola-aiw-editor.html)
VirtualRacing e.V. Forum (http://forum.virtualracing.org/gtr-allgemein/50989-jimola-aiw-editor.html)

And one thing, JImola still only needs the latest Java and Java3D runtime, so i dont quite understand why some of you call it a big download? Java should be installed automatically on most PCs and the 3D is 2.95MB.

If you have problems in starting JImola, the most likely cause is a faulty installation of Java3D (just reinstall in that case) or the AIW is not readable. if so you should check the log for details as to when and where the error happened.

Back to track,
Robert "Pontiac51" Graf

The interface is ok for me. It takes a long time to correct many AIW errors but it's still a million times faster and easier than doing it by hand/notepad.

Unfortunatley not all AIWs can be loaded. So my question is why are some tracks working and some are not? Both complex and simple AIWs can work, but there seems to be data in some AIWs that throw Jimola off. I would like to know what this data is and get rid of it by hand.

I've had succes editing Knockhill (zwiss) and the AI flies through the dip and into the chicahe, and takes the hairpin very aggresively and is overall much more competitive. With Pukekohe (NeelJ) i was less succesfull but i reduced the crashing and the AI is faster. But there are other addon tracks where the AI is bad or psychotic (Houston for example), but i can't fix it with Jimola and i can use any other editor.

I hope someone has some advice.

Thank for Jimola Robert, excellent tool.

be petty
(http://www.racingadventure.com/)The last step is GRADUATION - you’ll receive a log which shows the speed and performance you achieved on the track. It’s a great item to frame and display it in your den or office.
Furthermore the school operates at up to twenty (20) different NASCAR tracks throughout the year, so you’re sure to find a session at a location and time which works best for your schedule. It is also a great GIFT for YOURSELF and for SOMEONE SPECIAL, they’ll love it. CHECK IT OUT AND GO FOR IT NOW!

The problem with the richard petty experience of a lifetime (http://www.bepetty.com) is that all though you do get to drive a real nascar race car you only get to do it with a pace car and only up to about 140. If you have ever been in a high end race car, 140mph feels like 50 in a normal car. Dont get me wrong it was an amazing experience but I definately should have tried the Mario Andretti Racing Experience, or the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School. I have read on their sites that you get to go over 165 and as fast as your skill and the car will allow,(this should approach 194 mph). The best of which looks to be the Dale Jarret nascar experience followed by the Mario Andretti Experience. Both classes claim to be the fastest schools and the claims seem to be supported by the youtube videos and reviews I have found.

It is bit confusing by the name itself like someone allready said.
One for ingame one for outgame but both run under the name rf cam editor somehow..

The outgameone is hard to find on the inet but heres a woring link of the 370 version ...

http://notioncreator.net/Trackcreation/RF_AIW_CAM_EDIT_3.7.rar

better choise then jimola in my view because of kinds opening errors some ppl get with files. Never had problem if all got done right, let the game open`m ingame.

Ive been fiddling with AIW's recently & found the best one for me is the one in BTB, but unfortunately, it only works with BTB files & not with tracks that are completed....
It would be nice if there was one like that about with all the options the other tools have but in a nice simple handling package like BTB- I'd even be willing to pay for a lisence for it!
