View Full Version : Installing Mods Safely?

Hi everyone, I apologise in advance for asking some questions that have probably been done to death already. However I had a little nose around and couldn't find the answers I was looking for.

I have only just purchased rFactor and have downloaded a few mods. However the ones I am particularly interested in are .exe files. Being rather old fashioned I try never to do anything that will corrupt my system or cause irriversable damage. The mods I have downloaded profess to being useable with 'Mod Manager' but I can find no way of making ModMan take responsibility for installing these mods. Does anybody have any suggestions? I absolutely do not mind putting files in manually if it is absolutely necessary but I won't click on an executable as I consider this to be cybernetical suicide.

Why do these mods profess to be manually installable yet there is no link to a non .exe file? Can anybody answer that for me?

Why do people in the rF community not speak of ModManager which is configured and entirely brilliant?

Why do I feel like I have no contact with the road surface when the car I'm supposed to be driving weighs at least half a ton?

You don't have to answer that last question unless you know the answer isn't going to make me feel ill.

I like a lot of things about rF but if anybody can help with how I can safely add to it I will be really appreciative, thanx.

I always create a "New Folder" and extract the contents of the exe there. Then I manually install the files, following the file/folder stucture from the extracted contents. I can then backtrack more easily should I find a need to uninstall the mod.
Many do use ModManager, best to start with a clean install with that Utility tho.

Try the BMW M3GTR, the Alpha 147GT-R, Skodavia Cup to name a few, those feel a lil more like GTR2 physics. To get a grip with the F1's in rFactor, try going with the trainers, then thr rF3's to get a feel for them before taking the tiger by the tail and jumping into the screaming meemee's called F1's, lol.

That is exactly what I will do and I have a very fresh new install to do it too! rFactorcentral is a really good web site, I found it a few days ago and it was seeing the WIPs there that made me think it worthwhile buying rFactor.

You're absolutely right about the lower fomuli, I had a lot of fun with a trainer last night. It did give me the kind of feed back I am used to and a lot of pleasure finding the limits before the car was totalled in the armco!

I'll definately do that, I live just down the road from Caterham and I have been a life long fan of The Prisoner. :bowdown:

I think it depends a lot of the mod and your FFB setup. try the F1 1979 and fill the tank. You will feel the road surface :)

The F1 1979 mod is good, I tried it last night round Imola and got good feedback I also tried Limpsters F1 champions and that was very driveable also though I only completed one lap without raking the gravel! I should get the hang of it tho.
