Online frame rate?

What effects the frame rate whilst online racing the most? The level of detail in the game options or the server speed/internet connection speed? I just ran a daytime race at donington gp and when there were 28 racers my frame rate dropped considerably (tho some of them were idiots, as usual) When i run it with 28 AI cars my rates are above 60fps.

If the other guys where hitting each other and crashing that will slow your FPS a lot. Usually the AI cars don't crash into each other so the FPS stays high. Just a theory though.

Thanks i thought it may have been that but after a few laps all the idiots left and we got on with some proper racing. Seems like they only like crashing into you at the start... All should be ok if i have a go in no grip league fps wise then i hope.
