HI all,
Is there a performance gain (frame rate) by using the Directx8 shader over the Directx9 shader? (settings on the GTR2 and GTL config file)
Thank You

yes.. even more if you choose direct x7.. there is a little GFX difference.. but then again while your racing you won't notice it that much..

oh yeah i'd also like to note that if anyone has poor FPS the best thing you can do is change to dx7 for your shader... it should help a lot.

Thanks for the feedback... I thought that direct x was only for the shader controls?
I have been experimenting with direct x7/x8/x9... I can notice the track textures/shading on x7 look different (i.e. - lower quality) compared to x8 & x9.
I am running 1680x1050 res (AF=2x, AA=2xQ), so I have been trying to optimize my graphics/frame rate in both GTR2 and GTL.
Thanks

I think it depends on your video card. Older cards such as the GF5600U I had when I ran the GTL demo had very different performance in DX7, DX8 and DX9. Modern cards should have little difference. I agree, visually the biggest difference is between DX7 and DX8. The difference between DX8 and DX9 is more subtle.

Alot of the converted tracks for GTR2 suffer from poor FPS or FPS spiking on my system, so I changed to DX8 and it's improved immensely. The FPS still goes up and down a bit but it's much smoother and more playable, with little to no noticeable loss in graphics quality.

I have Radeon 9800SE and got better fps with dx8 than dx7 or 9.

Hmm... :uhm: Worth a try on my good old 6600TD... :D Thanks!

If you like Brands Hatch for GTR2 you have to keep it at DX9,
or it will not work.
For all other tracks and even rFactor i prefer DX7,
cause nothing is more important to me than as much frames as possible
in a racing-sim.:)
