View Full Version : Sound Question... Confused???

Here is my problem... using for example the 350Z or Saleen cars
If driving with Hood View car has a loud Whinne to it as it shifts through the gears. This reduces the actual engine sound.
However, if I switch to the AI same car while out on track sounds are perfect... not whinning of the engine... and you can really hear the engine sounds and sounds great!
I have changed the engine sounds volume and the special effects volume many times.. to no avail. Though these two cars are worst it happens in all cars... when the AI drives the car the sounds improve.
Can anyone help me correct this problem... can I hear the same sond as when the AI is driving. I can not find theses files listed in the .aud files.

OK... aftter looking again I found that these are the tranney sounds... how can I adjust these lower?

Ok... my only solution at this time, until someone can maybe lead me in a better direction is to eliminate the tranny sounds all together. Trying to change the rpm settings didn't seem to really change anything.

I will take a shot at this...
You are correct with the sound effects volume controlling the transmission whine, but it also adjusts road noise, wind noise, shifting sounds, etc. So if you drop this to around 10% you get rid of the annoying tranny whine, but you also loose all those other sound effects associated with it.(personally I like the tranny sound and have the sound effects set to 100%, but I drive from the drivers seat so I hear more engine sounds, and I'm usually driving the BMW E90 or VW Golf).
I messed around with the sounds a little bit to see what I could come up with and I think I have found a solution for you, but I don't know if it will cause an online mismatch? :confused:
Make sure you back up any files you plan to alter, just incase something gets messed up.:p
Here is what I did for the Nissan 350Z...
-I looked in the "Nissan 350Z Teams" folder for the "350Zsounds AUD file".
Opened it up in notepad and at the bottom of the page I found the Tranny information. Here's what it looks like...and I hi-lighted the wav. files in red so you can see what files you need to find in the Sounds folder...
// TRANNY-SAMPLE MIX
-Next, I went to "Sounds" folder and opened the "GTR" folder. Here is where I found the corresponding wav files. (each mod may have their own file in the Sound folder, just look untill you find the corresponding files you need).
-Then I copy & paste the 4 tranny sound files I wanted to change to a new folder in "My Documents". (You don't want to change the original files because these files may be shared with different cars. You will just be adding new files for the car you want to change the sound on).
-So then I renamed these files to better match the 350Z. Here's what they look like now...
-I opened these files up in "Cubase SE" (you can use any audio program that will let you adjust volume levels and save as the original file type) and lowered the volume levels -20db to test how this would sound, and saved them as wav files (16 bit, 2 channel stereo, 44khz, PCM).this is the same format as the originals were before I changed them.
-Then I placed these new audio files back into the Sounds\GTR folder.
-The last thing you need to do is open up the "350Zsounds AUD file" again and change it so it looks for the new audio files you just made. Then save this file and you are done. Heres what it looks like now...
// TRANNY-SAMPLE MIX
Like I said before...I don't know if this will cause online problems, but this is what I came up with. It works fine for single player.
If it solves your sound problems....Great :up:
If not... At least I learned something new here.:D
Rkip, PM me with your Email if you want me to send you these audio files I made for the 350Z.

Hey Disco... Thanks for the time and effort and help with this issue. I will give it a try. I've yet to attempt to play online cause I have a Satelite connection and sometime struggle with connection speeds and drop signal and/or Lag!
I'm going to check out the sounds clip/video you posted!
