Would be nice to see what mods are popular here and what has been downloaded. If you could post your ten favorite, that would be a great start.

I am asking this as rFactor has so many mods, when hosting, would like to minimize what people have to download to stay in sinc. If I have a list from what folks have already downloaded, then I could go from there. And I know, many are like myself and have downloaded virtually everything while others have been a little more picky.

This would really help me in finding a nice mix for my dedicated server.

I have downloaded everything I could get my grubby little paws on, however I am quite picky but prefer to think of myself as discerning. I am currently having a right battle trying to get GP79 cars to my liking. I started off as a lot of people have - I guess, being completely flummoxed by the snap oversteer. But I read that one league recommends novices drive the Lotus. So I did that and found that there is one car at least I can drive. You're probably wondering where I'm going with this . . . well a day ago I would not have had GP79 in my list of ten however it is the most challenging rFactor mod I have driven to date and therefore should be in.

V8 Supercars is the absolute bees knees
Toyota Atlantics
CTDP F1 2005
F3 Euro
X RACE Indy and Oval series
Grand Prix 1979 much much harder than is reasonably necessary
Renault Megane
Caterhams
PCC 2005 Germany
F1XR 06

Deja Vu! Didn't I just do this list for Simel?!!

Now just hovering outside my top ten are:

Historic Rally Cars, McLaren F1 and Gallardo Challenge!

I tried the HRC and regret, extremely disappointed as I had worked on a Rally mod where I studied hours and hours of footage and sorry, the HRC understeer so bad it's a joke and a real shame as otherwise, very well done.

I am a bigger Rally fan than circuit but will race pretty near anything online. So I am hoping a new batch of Rally mods that I am aware of as WIPs will address this and I can have fun in the dirt again.

Beyond that I see a lot of nice mods in your list.

It's actually quite strange the Rally cars have no flip and the GP79 have too much! Now what would happen if we swapped the physics we might end up with two authentic sims!

My favorite mods are ones that haven't been released yet (if EVER) or haven't been updated:

GP4 1991 Season (started in 2003, Erik van Leeuwen leading a mod team)

(see http://1991mod.drivingitalia.net)

Virtua_LM LeMans project (this promises to be "the BOMB", but the two track layouts they're working on are both post-Maison Blanche)

(see http://virtua-lm.com/lemans/index.php)

LeMans 1970 ("Frank" et al converted this F1C mod for GTR; it was definitely a 'work in progress', a beta that was never completely refined as far as I know. Frank55 recently declined to update/improve it for GTR2, but I'm hoping (I know, but it 'springs eternal'!) somebody with Virtua-LM is quietly conducting a parallel effort to model those 1970 5 liter classics, the Porsche 917, Ferrari 512, Matra, Alfa, Lola, and Chapparal! PLEASE, PLEASE let it be so!!!

Hey Snowy, have you ever tried the 2CV mod, may be slow cars but I find them a lot of fun, real hard not to have a close race.

I haven't! It's on my hard drive but I never installed it! I've been racing those Renault Super Cleos round Queensland and that's been fun tight racing. The cars are totally glued which is quite nice since the GP79's were driving me up the wall and my tendonitis is beginning to flare up!

Gee, should have added my list here...

For me:
V8's of course
Toyota Atlantics
Formula BMW's
Super Clios
Megane
2CV's, very fun believe it or not.
Ford Capri
FIA GT Champ with the Corvette vs. Austin DB9 enhancement
ETCC
rF1600
GP79
F1 Champ

I'm running around 9 gig of compressed mods at this time with 2 rFactor installs to minimize load time.

I might get killed here, but it looks like I'm the only one who doesn't like CTDP 2005 F1. It doesn't feel to me as GP4 or F1Challenge. But I like FSONE 2006.
I also like Gallardo challenge, F430s and the V8s(not very much)
The FIA GT is &$%@, I hate it.
I haven't tried oval NASCAR,but the IndyCars are fun.:D

snowy
14 March 07, 14:51
FSONE is becoming my favourite but it is in a contest with F1XR 06 which is similar in many ways. CTDP is actually very unforgiving, so I have aids on then it's quite a pleasure and now there is a 2007 rip of it but you didn't hear it from me, right?

So many great mods, so little time... :(

snowy
14 March 07, 16:12
The FSONE is definately the nicest looking F1 mod now that they have the 2007 skins. And it's driveable and responsive to setup changes and I think if I can find a league in my time zone I just might humiliate myself!

Clarify..? Just what I said. The A1 GPmod, mod of the first A1 GPseason for rFactor.

It is great that you have it. I thought it was nipped in the bud. Apparently the A1 GP Championship stiffled it claiming it infringed their copyright. I will have to search a little harder and a little deeper now I know they finished it or at least released a beta.

snowy

Downloaded and tried Stock Car Evolution, and I have to say it looks pretty damn good but drives like a sows ear! The default setup is for a road course but I haven't tried it on one yet so I might be pleasantly surprised when I do. However I downloaded some setups and still get the dump truck effect! It's similar in many respects to rFNascar 2007 evo but at least rFNascar has a good default oval setup that lets you get steaming into the whole Nascar experience without having to reinvent the wheel when it caomes to setting up the car. I made several changes which just made things worse so if anybdies interested I give rFNascar a big thumbs up for noobs and I will reserve judgement on Stock Car Evolution.

Alright Snowy, all I know is: I have it for almost one year now. I don't think it's a beta,I guess I was just at the right moment on the right place on the net. It disapeared suddenly. Really can't remember where I got it from. The only thing I'm pretty sure of is that it was a forum download somewhere......
