He wasn't Mexican, he was Colombian:

Roberto Guerrero, 1984 CART and Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, had terrible luck. He spun out of the race in 1992 from pole position on the pace lap! I'll never forget his humble grace in the white-hot spotlight of interviews before the restart he would miss... He had a really bad accident in 1987 that left him in a coma for 17 days, so he was already the main story before he got a little too aggressive warming up his tires...
