View Full Version : Tires Chattering

Would anybody know a reason why the tires are chattering on my F1 car whenever I use the brakes to corner? It just isn't very smooth, feels like the brakes want to lock up. Anti-lock brakes are off also.
You need to adjust your brake balance. You can do that in the garage or using the bracket keys [] (default) whilst you're driving. I always start at 60/40 and usually end up around 58/42 but it does depend on circuit and other setup changes I've made.
Things that can impact on braking:
Springs: If they are too stiff your tyres might not be in contact with the road, particularly over bumps.
Anti-roll bars: If too stiff one or more tyres may loose contact with road, particularly over bumps.
Other things to fiddle about with:
Engine brake mapping, Diff, Coast and Preload.
You can look at the behaviour of your wheels in play back to find the problem or you can use Data Acquistion. You'll need DanZ's Data Acquistion plugin http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Data%20Acquisition%20Plugin (http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Data%20Acquisition%20Plugin) and MoTeC i2 Pro http://motec.com/.
Play around with your fast bump and rebound settings, they control the the movement of unsprung weight, which is the tires, wheels, brake discs, axles ... anything under the springs. Slow bump settings control the sprung weight, anything above the springs. It seems alot of rF cars, mod and oem, don't include inertia values calculating the weight of the vehicles parts, that can cause unrealistic behavior in the suspension. Also GP4 converted tracks seem to have and odd bouncing affect in rfactor, I haven't been able to pin down the cause yet but I do suggest avoiding GP4 conversions when testing your setups.

thanks guys, I'll try all of that. You almost need to be an engineer to setup these cars. I don't have a clue.

You'll need DanZ's Data Acquistion plugin http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Data%20Acquisition%20Plugin and MoTeC i2 Pro http://motec.com/.
According to DanZ's description, this plugin won't work with i2 Pro. i2 Standard is required.
Are you able to get this working with i2 Pro? I already have i2 Pro installed for GTR2 but I can't get it to open any rF files.
The reason I'm bringing up this topic is because I manually installed the CTDP F1 20905 mod game files only. I would have also liked to install the Motec anaylysis program that came with it with but had to exit out of the installation at that point because I thought it would install the entire mod automatically, which I didn't want to do (as we discussed in this thread) (http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9635).
You think it would be safe to run the CTDP .exe mod again and extract the game files to seperate folder, like I did before, then let the Data Acquisition plugin install automatically?
I just don't want to install a bunch of unnecessary crap.
Thanks again
DanZ's v 9.2a or later supports i2 Pro, I quote his gleeful words "v9.2a supports the Pro format, so i2 Pro can now be used!"
The Data acquisition prog that comes with CTDP 2005 might require a handle in the registry which would mean you shouldn't move the program once installed. As long as you can keep it where ever you put it perminently then it should be happy enough. But there is a chance that it really has to be or only wants to be in your rFactor folder which might upset the apple cart.
