Well... I am happy...
I'm happy but I would like to see if it changes something... Formula one is too serious business for these big companies let it rest on the shoulders (or feet) of a single person... How do they call this person yet? mmhh... Yes ... a pilot...

This was also a big debate when they put TC in motorcycles. Yes, without TC the role of the driver is more pronounced. Is this worth sacrificing safety? I don't believe so. There will be more wrecks in 2008.

this is a good thing no doubt about it, there is a lot of skill in modulating the trottle pressure and none in just standing on it, I know which is more interesting to me.

We might actually see some more overtaking as a result from drivers getting wheelspin out of turns.:D

FFS.....

The smeggin FIA should make their mind up. They ban it, they un-ban it......their even going back to slicks next year. Give it a few years then they'll ban them again to.....

they made it legal because some teams were using it anyway and they coundn't police it basically.

Sadly they have given up on a return to wide cars and slicks:(

I give up!

I saw Bernie Ecclestone saying they would be back on slick tyres next year and that was in an interview this year......

I like this, but I fear the F1 cars will become undrivable.
They have a very large amount of HP and it will be very likely that we'll see a lot more spins and slower laptimes. But I've never been in a F1 car so I can't tell:p

Yay! Get the driver input back into the sport. While you are at it Bernie, get rid of the current aero packages. If a car is far enough behind to keep it's aerodynamic integrity it's too far back to pass, if it's close enough to pass, it can't because of turbulence and loss of grip. Catch 22.

Given the current state of F1 where 9 out of every 10 turns a car needs a heap of traction control to get out of it cleanly this will be a good thing. Applying pressure to the guy in front might get him to make small mistakes that have consequences that he will have deal with rather than a computer ;)

Yes that's OK
BTW Do Champ Cars have TC?

Plus, this will have an effect on laptimes, and F1 might not be THE fastest racing series in the world. But I'll wait and see.

Hey guys. yes they are banning tc next year but they are replacing it with a new type of control that will help keep the tires on the ground. i really dont remember the actual name off the top of my head but they are only going to lose 1-2 tenths a lap and thats with this new device but with the slicks and the new computer system they are putting in the cars next year. there times are about the same...

What you guys should watch out for though is the AMS lmp1 cars. with what they are doing to the cars next year and in 09 they will be faster then f1. They just did some testing at albert park with a 09 lmp1 model (they did not say which manufactor) and it beat the f1 q times by .5 a second. so here they come just like everyone did say a long time ago. but f1 will always be the most advance car for years to come.

no they don't or didn't last year, I don't think the new car has it either.

I think that wouldn't affect F1 as much, as its expected. Yes driving a F1-car will be a lot more tricky, espessially in the rain, but today best teams have best cars, engineers, drivers... And next year their superiority will be even more objective

It will only affect the drivers for a short while. Any other changes they have made to the cars (e.g. slicks to grooved tyres, narrower cars etc...) to make them slower has they were getting too fast only affected the teams for about one season at max. The technicians and the drivers are excellent and at their jobs and can overcome anything the FIA decides to throw at them, it might just take a season or two. Personally I think its great they are banning it. It should be banned in all motorsports. F1 Drivers are suppose to be the best drivers in the world, so they shouldn't need TC. Theres my two cents worth! :P

One more thing though, TC has been banned, but what about launch control? Are teams still allowed to use that?

I Blame Herman Tilke for TC......

At the Height of the Turbo Era...when these cars were pumping out over 1000HP....They DIDN'T have Traction Control......and it wasn't a problem....

Now they have what 700HP?....and No TC is a Prolem...why?....Because All the Tracks are the same.....Run up to 7th Gear and then Slam on the Brakes for a 90 Degree Cornor or a Hairpin.......

the Tracks are too Tight to NOT have Traction Control....

EDIT:

Bean...Launch Control has been Banned for at Least the Last 2 Seasons.....

yes they do have TC. Just got back from the long beach race and i was actually surprised that they do for the first time. Which really made for the best racing ive seen from the champ car ever.

Definately a good thing banning TC, was watching some video's of the Senna Schumi era earlier and there's nothing like the sound of a F1 car lighting up its rear wheels. And it takes extra skill so should separate the good from the great. Re: safety: i think most of the track's have ample run off area's and the car's chassis and safety cell designs are very advanced, in all racing the drivers take risk's.
