ok I'll try and keep to the basics..

first there was the game Rally Trophy, I bought it just after it was released, got hooked and couldn't stop playing it..

after 2-3 months of playing it I was invited to join Relaygames(dead and gone now sadly) as admin for the Rally Trophy section, and I met Fredizzimo, who was making the tools we have for modding that game.. apart from Relaygames there weren't any sites for Rally Trophy so I made my first venture into html, and made a basic site to host the addons made for it.. I guess you could call that NoGrip v1

after a few months I had become good friends with Fredizzimo and we decided to jointly make NoGrip v2, with built in forum, member uploads etc.. Fred wrote all the php and I did the html

NoGrip v2 also was when we first moved to a dedicated server, albiet a cheap one, after getting frustrated with many crap shared hosting providers

after that the site trickled along for a couple of years, and I slowly started to learn some php, as Fred got a job with Bugbear coding for their games, so didn't have the time/inclination for messing about with the site any more.

about the time GT Legends was released I overhauled the site completely, taking the basis of NoGrip v2 to make NoGrip v3, now with a fairly well known CMS system as the front end with many of the old features converted across, as well as switching to VB forum from phpbb

when GTL came out I bought it, decided it was a game worth supporting and started adding downloads for that, and the sites popularity started to grow

by the time GTR2 was released the site was quite well known and so we had a good start with that, leading on to what we have now :) - I also redid the front end of the site about the same time as GTR2 came out, dumping the CMS and converting the whole shebang to custom coded php which does what we need and no more (also has the added benefit that non of the source code is publicly available and hence much safer from script kiddies) - I guess we are now at NoGrip v4

finally here we are today, thousands of daily visitors and lots of files hosted / downloaded :D

Yes, this site seems to be the perfect blend of server resources and number of users, and the downloads section is the best I've ever seen. It takes me 3 times as long to navigate through RSC! NoGrip is at the top of my Favorites list. THANKS!

Amen! NoGrip is actually the nicest place on the net that I have experienced. I belong to several other forums but I'd have trouble telling you what or where they are as NoGrip is always my first port of call. I check daily to find out what's cooking and see if I can help anyone out of a fix and I check to see if anyone has answered any of my questions. After, I visit rfactorcentral which is fine but nobody discusses anything in any depth! I hope that isn't a reflection on rFactor! Thanks Dan for all your efforts on our behalf, trying to learn HTML made my eyes bleed so I have nothing but respect for you.

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your nickname,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your nickname.

Cheers guys...

Never have I ever seen so many Nations under one banner: The No Grip banner. You have united people of all ages from all over the world to discuss one of the only universal interests that Nations can share... and that of course would be racing. In my own country I am surrounded by people are completely ignorant to the subject of racing. Imagine... I live 80 miles from Daytona Beach, Florida and 90% of the people who live here don't even know that there is a road course at Daytona.... People who have never heard of Le Mans... who never watched an F1 race.... people who think that NASCAR is the only form of racing besides drag racing. It just really makes me sick how ignorant people I'm sorrounded by are about racing. SO... that's why I appreciate this site the most. I can discuss racing with people who know what I'm talking about, and at the same time I get to hear a very international opinion.

Also thank you for treating people correctly.... when they are polite and purely curious you are nice to people... but when they are rude and obnoxious you re-act accordingly.... You give people what they deserve. Thanks for giving the idiots hell!!!! ;)

Finally... thank you for being a racing fan like me.

I visit and post on a few game forums on a daily basis (about Halo, GTR2 and MW4), but NoGrip is definitely my favorite site for sim-racing. Yet all these forums share a common "formula" that make them truly enjoyable: a great community of respectful and passionate people, and as ridiculous as it may sound, they all represent a blueprint of what I'd like the world to become. A place where boundaries dissappear and people interact positively because they share things in common and enjoy doing it, where everyone makes an effort to be nice and civilised to everyone. :)

:thanks: You build such a place guys... Be proud of it.
And now off to some Easter breakfast! http://planetsmilies.net/kaos-animal-bunny-smiley-6080.gif LOL!

Yeah, Dan your hard work has paid! NoGrip seems to be the best site for sim racing for sure. Before joining I looked over the web for a league to play GTL. NoGrip looked the best to me and that's what I joined - and I don't regret it! :)

People here are way cool and everyone can speak without preconeived ideas. Here are a few personnal example that shows how NoGrip state of mind is the best to me :

- I'm not a very good driver. Here at GTL League everyone welcomed me and instead of laughing at me, they have helped me to improve. And on track, even in a race, they have always respected me as a driver. This is that gentlemen spirit that I really appreciate

- I'm not that keen on car mechanics : no problem, the handy guys here are always up to help and even share setups!

- I like cars but I'm not a driving addict, not that keen on motorsports etc : that doesn't matter! You can share whatever here on NoGrip about your own experience, culture etc. You will always find a door open, whoever you are :)

The example list above is just an extract of all the good features here on NoGrip website. Thanks to Dan and all the staff, keep up the good work mates

You are SO RIGHT! When I finished reading the latest posts on this thread I had a Vision: Let's all meet in Geneva and have a Group Hug! :D But then I realized, no, wait, we have group hugs every day on this site, thanks to the 'miracle' of the Internet. It may sound stupid, but, just being 'with you guys' for a couple of months, I already feel like we're brothers, and I'd go a long way (figuratively, if not literally ;)) to help any one of you! That's the beauty of how both our minds and our computers are 'wired'. It really CAN be better to give than to receive... as long as you're gettin' some, too!

We all have each other to thank for that. :trophy:

NoGrip has grown up - wow! I'd forgotten the older versions. I still remember how much RT chat there was at the Jowood forum. Many of us first met up over there and thanks to Dan the spirit moved to NoGrip.

Do you ever hear from Fred?
