From OllieC
"We are pleased to annouce a new mod coming to Rfactor
The mod will feature group A touring cars from the 1980s
Legendary cars and drivers that raced in saloon car championships around the world during this period will be represented, as well as some of the lesser known drivers and teams."
I have just been recruited to paint for the Touring Car Legends Mod. This mod is huge and I am very glad to be a small part in it. Painting the Mustangs of 85,86,88 for the Anderson Bros.
My current work so far.

"Our plan is to release before Easter, atm we're working hard to make sure no bugs are left. We're including WTCC, ETCC, BTCC, ATCC, DTM, Bathurst, and Miscellanious like JTCC and Spa24h cars"
There was a list of the cars ive seen.... some are Nissan Skyline R31 & DR30,
BMW 635CSI & M3, Holden Commodore VK/VL/VL Walkinshaw, Ford Sierra RS500 and a heap of others!!
Love the Mustang,

Fantastic news Gollum, thanks.
I didn't realise when I posted how old this thread is.
Surely the mod's so close to perfection by now!?!
Not a criticism, just the wishes of a long time touring
car fan.
It has taken a while, but considering the amount of work and the variation in the cars plus the small number of people working on it....it look likes it going to be worth every minute of waiting.
Since RS..C has been OL. Where is this being discussed now???

so easter sunday is April 12th.....is their anyone who is associated with the TCL mod directly visiting this thread that could either confirm or deny whether the release is still on track for a date around mid april?
The wait for a quality Ford Sierra RS500 for rFactor is almost too much to bare
I can confirm that the team is still on schedule to release TCL before Easter, if everything goes well it will actually be quite soon. :-) We've done a big beta testrace on a league server with good results, and fixed all big bugs people have found. Despite the very small team we managed to finish this very big mod.
Since RSC is down and the link to post a comment on rFc doesn't work atm, we currently aren't using forums.

Although the cars are from a classic era, the mod is not that flash.
The sounds are poor quality, and the amount of hype surrounding this mod was unjustified. Compared with mods like the NAGT, PCC2007 and other mods, it was a bit of a let down. The NAGT has growl, it has a lot of bite, and you feel like you are driving a powerful V8. It has punch, and the cars are extremely responsive.
In comparison, most of the TCL cars had little feel in the suspension, and a lot of understeer. It felt very one-dimensional to drive. You can drive it with your little finger. VL Commodores are nasty pieces of equipment, and have extreme power, but that did not come through in the mod.
If you love this era of racing, then it might provide some entertainment if you skin up a bunch of favourites into a championship with some mates. Might make for some great racing.
My favourite was the VL Commodore. Overall, it is great to see these classics get the light of day in an rFactor mod.

Well done guys, i think you have done a great job with the physics of the turbo cars, particularly the sensations of lag changing to boost.
Off to try out some more models!!
Thanks again for all of your work!
Great job! Try the Volvo 240 on Silverstone, its amazing to drift through those high speed turns.

What a day!!
Waited for this mod for years! Thank you very much.
Downloading now.
(and P&G Update 2.1 for GTR2 - what a day - like Xmas and Easter on one single day!).
Forget VLN2005 which requires GTrevo/Race07 what nobody can understand.
I saw the BMW 635CSL during the mid eighties participating at the 24 hours Nurburgring and VLN. So this is my private historic VLN.
One thing: will there be more download mirrors? Skinpack part 1 on Megaupload with 19 kb/sec will last about 3 hours - and there are 6 of it.
Thank you again for this wonderful addition to rfactor!

scca1981
24 March 09, 20:54
I had that error also... however it only effects the safety car and you can still race.
One thing: will there be more download mirrors? Skinpack part 1 on Megaupload with 19 kb/sec will last about 3 hours - and there are 6 of it.
While I hate megaupload, my dl speeds were great this morning averaging 800kb a sec. One thing that may suck for some users is the download cap for non-paying members of megaupload.
Again the mod is great. The lower poly models don't bother me that much as I can run huge grids with these cars and not lag. Only room for improvement I could see is the sounds(although not a big deal if you know how to edit these yourself). The mustang/beamer and benz were enough for me to warrant the 1+gig download and 5+gig install :)

I was planning on doing a dedicated rflite install for this anyway - maybe a good idea to recommend this for everyone.
Amazing mod indeed, and I was just getting warmed up with the VLN mod...
I too have gotten the CTD 2-3 times with no error window, looked through the trace file and found nothing sticking out. The install I put it in only had 1 preexisting mod, but definitely TCL deserves its own install when I get the rest of the skins.
I didn't had any ctd's last night when i tried this. But i don't have any skinpacks installed so maybe they're the problem?

Having downloaded all the skins and the pace car fix, and now having spent a bit more time on the track (Bathurst of course!) this mod is truly awsome in almost all facets.
I mean i could just sit scrolling through the various models in the showroom and am instantly returned to the time that these cars ran in real life, just with the amount of skins that have been lovingly crafted it is easy to see why this mod was so long in the making and was so sought after by so many boy racers of the 80s, Thankyou once again to everyone who worked on this, it is a joy:thumbup:
Lovely mod, lots of toys for grown men! Fantastic era of racing. My only gripes are the sounds could be better on some cars, and the damage model is not the best.
It was a monster download but it was worth it. After installing the fix I had no problems.
Thanks to the mod makers for NOT including UI highjackers and alot of other assorted junk that I would have deleted anyway. I'm much more apt to run the mod online as a result.
I guess there is no realfeel (or I'm missing something - entirely possible) but for a mod that has no realfeel the cars have a good feel to em.
All the car models in the mod are right up my ally considering my age and interest. Very nice.
I normally run a field of 30 AI with most mods. I tried a field of 60 at the Virtual LM version of Le Mans last night and it ran smooth as silk even with me starting from the rear.
Thanks to the mod team. It's appreciated.

Love this, really enjoyed the limited drive I just had with it ( 240 turbo, SD1 ) - Great Job Petrol.
Are there plans to do anything more with this mod ?? some spit and polish here and there maybe ?
It would be super cool if some of the very experienced modelers could jump in and lend a hand to increase the model quality ( and no offence intended )

If you increase the number of polys and the texture sizes, the frame rates will fall.
For racing the level of detail seems fine.
The only reason to increase the level of detail might be for renders, movies, or hires photos.

Not being a huge fan of rFactor, I set to work downloading this mod late last night on the suggestion of a friend. It took about an hour or more to get the whole thing, and installed nicely. I decided to take a few cars out for a spin. After what I thought was a few minutes of running, I realized it was 2am! Great Mod! I made a standalone install with rF Lite, which was the right thing to do as the mod it self it over 3GB!! I might just like rFactor after all!!!
BTW Real feel FBB Plugin works great with this one!

YES. I wish rf modders would just leave the UI alone. I support creativity, however sometimes its more of a hassle.

Agreed

Also working great here
If you increase the number of polys and the texture sizes
As I said, I meant no offence, the models supplied are very nice, in the future it would be really cool if we might see something with a few more poly :), I can spare a few FPS at over 300 , thats what LODS and detail settings are there for tho right ?
Yeah, I've deleted almost 2.5gb of mod-specific UI skins, music and intro movies from my rF install, and from them all the only ones that have really impressed me are HistorX and VLN '05.
As for TCL, I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, but just leafing through the car selection is one of the first times that every single car in a mod has made me think 'wow, I'll have to drive that one first'. You can really see where the 4gb of disk space went, with a whopping 678 cars and a whole bunch of alternate skins on top.
Hmmm. Realfeel works for you guys? Maybe it's something with me.
The car acted just like a mod without realfeel would. I can jump to another mod that I know supports realfeel and it works within the same install.
Maybe I need to just try it again. I was using a Mustang. I dunno.
Phantom Mark
25 March 09, 16:58
The realfeel here doesn't feel as alive as with some other "officially supporting" real feel mods but it certainly works well enough here to warrant use IMHO at least.
Its taken me months to get my setup working with RFeel properly, I can finally feel what others have been on about for ages, FWIW I copy pasted the settings for my hybrid G25 from Vracing.net ? IIRC ?

Come to think of it I may have changed the default FFB settings in the upgrade menu but I don't recall seeing a "realfeel" option. I guess I need to experiment a bit more.

Love this, really enjoyed the limited drive I just had with it ( 240 turbo, SD1 ) - Great Job Petrol.
Are there plans to do anything more with this mod ?? some spit and polish here and there maybe ?
It would be super cool if some of the very experienced modelers could jump in and lend a hand to increase the model quality ( and no offence intended )
i have made some dirt to the cockpit windows, corrently only in M3 and Sierra, to add more inmersion, without them seems to be nothing there hehe. THIS IS TOTALLY UNOFFICIAL
(only for Sierra, if you like it I will do it for all cars)

Very interested on your RealFeel findings, fellas. It's a shame that the modding team went to all of this time to create all of these cars, sounds, physics and liveries yet didn't take the step of using carFactory to create suspensions that are 100 percent compatible with RealFeel.
It can be done with a multi-car uber-mod like this -- just drive Historic GT & Touring.
No mod is reaching the limits of rFactor realism to me without RealFeel-compatible suspensions.
Take care,

Thanks for the kind words, and constructive criticism is welcome
I am one of the modellers from the TCL mod, and our 'home' at RSC is down at the moment
thought I would take the opportunity to come here and say hello
any problems I will try and sort out for you guys, glad to see some people enjoying the mod

Hey Olly welcome. Just wanted to say this imo is the best mod ever made and i'm not licking your arse here lol. well done to all involved in creating this masterpiece.
can someone tell me why while i play on the server my game suddenly crashes. I have installed the pace car fix. Thank you.
PS: Great work by the way TCL crew, especially my 2 dear friends Ollie and Martin aka RS OWNER. Great guys one of the best mods out there for sure!

This mod was uninstalled from the PC after three laps.
http://www.omr.com.au/img/pictures/tcl.jpg
How can people say they think it's "Hall of Fame" or "the best mod in rFactor" or "the only reason I re-installed rFactor".
Basic observations:
(i) Models are average
(ii) Sounds are below average
(iii) Physics are basic at best and it drives like a boat on water.
(iv) You can drive it with your little finger with your foot flat to the floor for 88% of the lap.
(v) The mod crashes regularly
The positives are:
(i) The number of different years (i did like that)
(ii) The multitude of cars.
Once the models, sounds and physics are refined, and the cars get a bit of growl, it should be OK, but overall, people's judgement is being blurred by their sentimental attachment to memories of watching car racing on TV in the 1980's.
Good to know.

Did the mod developer get all his mates to come in and post how good it was?
(i) Models are average
(ii) Sounds are below average
(iii) Physics are basic at best and it drives like a boat on water.
(iv) You can drive it with your little finger with your foot flat to the floor for 95% of the lap.
(v) The mod crashes regularly
(vi) They stole their gear change sounds from the BMW320 mod without dmatzies permission.
The positives are few with
(i) The number of different years (i did like that)
(ii) The multitude of cars.
Once the models, sounds and physics are refined, and the cars get a bit of growl, then it will be a good mod to race.
Sorry to hear you didnt think much of the TCL team's work
models average ? perhaps
sounds ? we used RF sounds, we had no sound editor. would you like to make us some sounds ?
physics bad ? would you like to help us make them better ?
foot to the floor for 95% of the lap ? which track and car is this
stole the gearchange sound hahaha thats funny. we asked permission and it was given, it was my mistake to omit the credit and I aplogise for this, but steal, steal is a strong word.
crashes, yes, that is something we are unable to shed any light on
as I said, constructive criticism, gotta love it

It may not be a perfect mod but i think he is being a bit harsh.
Well i have had no CTD wot so ever. As far as physics go they are good these are 80's touring cars after all. Making sounds for one car is hard enough let alone 20+ so thats no biggie. The car models "basic" lol again these are 80's saloon cars so there gonna look basic as they did i real life and i'd rather have 60+ low ploy cars running silky smooth than 10 high poly cas barley running at all.

I would love to offer advice. But remember, my advice is just that, advice.
The best part of the mod is the number of years. We were blown away by the categories and number of different cars. Dont get me wrong, there has been a lot of work gone into this mod.
The main area to improve is the growl. The VL Commodore is OK to drive, but it needs some growl. I will ask a mate in Adelaide who owns a VL Walkinshaw to record the engine sounds inside and out, and just let me know the frequencies you want for the .sfx file and I will see if I can get them for you. I will make that my mission for 2009 to help you out. No promises, but I will try.
With the physics in rFactor, the latest car to look at is the NAGT Pontiac GTO. It has great turn in and you can still get the power down as you come out of the corner. I was expecting something more like that.
But let me see if I can get you some sounds for a VK and a VL.

This is a fantastic mod... i saw this as a WIP, and it was the reason i went out and bought rFactor!!
OllyC congratulations to you and your team on a truely awesome mod!!! I remember seeing screenshots of a Jaguar XJS and a Nissan Skyline GTR... are they going to be added at a later date as an update!!! Would love to race the Walkinshaws and Sierras up against them... Anyway top job all round!!!
The physics of the cars handling is spot on, these cars are after all, 20years old... they didnt stop, turn in OR accelerate anything like a current racecar. They werent 600+hp like current V8Supercars/DTM or GT cars... I think you've done a great job OllyC of recreating a great time in World Motorsport
Meclazine you can't expect a 20 year old Commodore to behave like a 2008 Pontiac GTO, if it would have then there would be a problem. 3 laps to test all these cars, maybe tweaking setups and have an opinion, we should have had you as a tester. Then you could also have shown us how consistent and fast you are while driving with your little finger with your foot flat to the floor for 95% of the lap. I haven't even seen the aliens do that so I'm very curious. For some reason your comments were not that convincing and reading your different posts it seems to me that you've been spending more time posting comments than actually driving.
The pic you attached is the lowest quality one on rFc and it doesn't even have shadows, while so many pics have been posted you pick that one to show, is that deliberate? And would you mind editing your post about the stealing because that is a lie. :-)
Pk500, the physics and the suspension geometry were not specifically created to fit 3rd party add-ons, it was made for rFactor. If you want your plugin to work well you'll have to edit the settings yourself. Realistic suspension movement is more important than your subjective feel using an add-on for rF that needs specific physics created by a 3rd party tool to make them feel good.
The models are not extremely high quality, to us good fps in large fields for the average simracer is more important. Creating all these models is not as easy as converting a another sim to have a new mod in rF. The sounds, they were based on the original rF sounds (included in the mod because lots of people use rF Lite). Maybe we should have waited with the release untill a sound editor came along and created sounds for all these cars. If someone wants to improve them, please do so.
Lots of time has been spent developing this mod, with online and league racing in mind. Some cars are really easy and others need some practice just like the real cars. People who prefer modern cars with lots of grip probably won't like TCL that much which is fine, we didn't make it for that audience. Feedback is welcome, positive and negative but do think about what and how you write.
About CTD's has anyone frequently had them after he installed the pacecar fix?

I'm afraid your way off the mark here, carfactory and realfeel are used to create realistic suspension and steering for mods based upon factual data rather than feel and if the correct data is applied then you will get realistic suspension movement as a consequence. If you didn't have enough information to implement realfeel then fair enough, but saying that the mod was made for rFactor and not 3rd party plugins is a cop out because if your data is accurate then realfeel will work, you don't need car factory at all as that is just a tool to help you get it right.
Telling PK500 to edit the settings is pointless as no amount of tweaking of realfeel will correct fudged suspension and physics files.
Your post also struck me as pretty rude to pk500, realfeel users and it's creator but as I don't know if English is your spoken language I'll give you the benefit of doubt.

At the end of the day, I dont want to criticise the people involved. Edited my post. Just making comments on the attributes of the mod in the hope of improving it. But Petrol, the Pontiac GTO and the VL Commodore are more closely related than you possibly realise.
The VL Commodore is a cult classic in Australia, and anything I can offer to improving that individual car, I will. Dont want to be seen as criticizing the first modding group to bring that car to rFactor, because it's an amazing car in real life. But further development is warranted.
Now, for another coffee.

All credit to you and your team, Petrol, but there's nothing subjective about RealFeel and carFactory.
carFactory builds suspensions based on real values, and MoTeC telemetry data gleaned from testing provides you accurate MaxForceAtSteeringRack integers to plug into RealFeel, with the end result accurate force feedback based on movement of accurately built suspension, not canned, arbitrary forces or tire friction. RealFeel is not subjective when you use MoTeC data to determine settings; the telemetry doesn't lie when gathered from a car with a properly built suspension.
I'm still eager to try your mod, but to dismiss RealFeel as a "third-party add-on based on subjective feel" shows a blind eye turned toward the evolution of rFactor. RealFeel is far superior to the canned, arbitrary forces that the default ISI FFB engine creates, and RealFeel is the de facto standard for nearly all high-quality rFactor mods.
That said, I applaud the detailed work of your team and still want to give your mod an extended go.
Take care,
PK

I have to say that this is one awesome mod. The time alone to put something together like this is staggering. The models look great, the cockpits look great and the sounds fit, even if they are all ISI default sounds. They take nothing away from this piece of work. So far I have only driven the BMW but it handles like I expected.
Like anything else in life, you will always find room for improvement. It's human nature. You look at anything long enough, and you will find something that could be different or changed.
What never ceases to amaze me is the number of people that have NEVER contributed ANYTHING to this community, they can sit behind their keyboards and piss and moan about everything "they" feel is wrong and post all kinds of negative comments, with the only intention of angering the mod authors. That is wrong, and it really needs to stop. These people have put in hundreds of hours, in their spare time to put together something of this magnitude, only to have some keyboard jockey rip it to pieces.
Sure it can be improved. Anything can. If you have an issue, talk about it. Maybe a resolution can be found. Otherwise keep the angry negative comments to yourself.
Thank you :-)

Thanks for the tip, but that's a fudge-laden workaround that I don't want to attempt.
First, FFB values should be negative with properly built rFactor mods and Logitech wheels. Resorting to a positive value to get RealFeel to "feel right" increases my suspicion that something may be askew with the suspensions for this mod.
Second, I only use 100 percent FFB. If a mod is built properly for RealFeel, it will work right with Low FFB settings at 100 percent slider, SteerForceInputMax of 11500 and smoothing of 0. The only RealFeel value that needs to be changed is MaxForceAtSteeringRack, and that can be gathered VERY accurately from MoTeC telemetry after about 10 minutes of testing.
There's no gray area with RealFeel. If a car is built properly for it, you plug in the data from MoTeC with 100 percent FFB, 11500 SteerForceInputMax, 0 smoothing and Low FFB levels, and it will work just right.
Again, I applaud the time and graft of the TCL mod makers. I will give it a go. I only wish RealFeel was implemented.
Take care,
PK
They did say this was a 'first release' so I suspect we will see more in the future (personally I was looking forward to the big Jag) ;)
ps: Must give out a kudos to the amazingly measured response OllyC gave to meclazine2008's little rant, it seems that all he really cares about is the sound of one car in the mod. How mod makers put up with people rudely brushing off their years of hard work after "3 laps" I'll never know...

VL Commodore related to 2008 GTO/Monaro? As an aussie I have to say that's a load of bull%$&$. There's nothing, NOTHING similar between the two cars other than the badge and they fact they're both rear wheel drive V8s. Expecting a Group A VL to perform and handle like NAGT's GTO is just, well, dumb.
Anyway, my congrats to the mod makers. I for one appreciate the massive amounts of hard work that went in to this and love the final product. Well done guys.

Hi Gunja! Have you tried to invert FFB in RealFeelPlugin.ini? Just press the RightCTRL + NumPad 5. Microsoft Sam should say "force reversed" and it should work normally after that.
I like this mod, don't know whats wrong with guys who doesn't like it(?) Sounds are just fine, driving feel is great, with Leo's FFB as i never use Realfeel(not before this, not now, not in the future) and i don't have any complains about cars physics.
After sessions of iRacing jumping to this felt just fine, no problems with handling etc. I don't agree with accusations about "too easy/dead handling", i think that ie. Sierra RS5000 in Bathurst(87' Bathurst-model) provide just enough challenge when it tries to slide almost in all corners if you're not careful with throttle.
I have to say: This is one of the GREATEST mods ever. I cannot understand why people say the models or the physics are bad? The models look awesome, and the driving is that much fun. Some textures in the cockpits-well, so what...
But it really needs a soundupdate for some of the cars with standart sounds (esp. Mercedes).

are you comfortable useing notepad?
if so, what you can do is open the escorts .sfx file and experiment with the multiplier function.
an example of this is found with the sfx files of the F1-1988 mod
VS_INSIDE_COAST_ENGINE_1=12.0,F1_1988\V8\F88V8_IDL E.wav
basically add the multiplier to a backup copy of the sfx file and test until you are satisfied with the volume of sound you are getting. Expect it to take a lot of time - but believe me you will really have a huge satisfaction from having done it yourself.
just make sure you keep a backup of the original file (just in case). ;-)

Alright boys,
The guy has a Walkinshaw VL Group A Commodore. That is all I know. I've been in it when I was in Adelaide, and it was like a jet airplane.
We will attempt to record sounds for 2 seconds inside and outside the car with:
(a) Idle
(b) 2000 vlow
(c) 3000 low
(d) 4000 mid
(e) 6000 high
Once he heard there was an rFactor mod out with a VL, he was obviously pretty interested. Now all we need is a recording device of some description whilst it is on the dyno.
For the VK, we dont know anyone with a Group A version, so we may miss that one.

pain-less... that screenshot you have up... I can't recall seeing a BASTOS Rover in my list of cars... is that 1 you've made up or did i miss that car in my list?
You must have missed it. I haven't added anything. I believe that was the 1986 ETCC group.
Sounds are just fine, driving feel is great, with Leo's FFB as i never use Realfeel(not before this, not now, not in the future) and i don't have any complains about cars physics.
Why are you so anti RealFeel? LeoFFB is far superior to ISI's FFB but RealFeel is far superior to LeoFFB. LeoFFB has way to many ajustments and if you don't make these ajustments then you are missing out on it's full benifits. LeoFFB dosn't keep setting per car so you have to make a bunch of copies of the INI file for each car. Pain in the but. RealFeel only has one setting to change and that is MaxForceAtSteeringRack. You don't have to go in and out of the game to make changes to it either.
I use LeoFFB for mods with fudged suspension. All else I run 100% RealFeel.
True, true. Leo's FFB is more time-intensive and difficult to set up realistically than RealFeel because you need to use Notepad to find accurate slip angle and suspension data for every mod, and then enter it for every mod you use. RealFeel is "set it and forget it" once you get the accurate SteeringForceMax data, which takes about 10 minutes per car ONE TIME with MoTeC telemetry.
The only limiting factor of RealFeel is that so few mods are truly compatible with it. So it's a balancing act for each individual whether they want to sacrifice choice for ultimate realism. I crave realism, so if a mod lacks true RealFeel compatibility, I'm not driving it. But that's me, and I know that approach doesn't work for many. :)
Default Leo's is set up for the 2007 BMW Sauber F1 car, yet I'm willing to bet many users of Leo's never touch the default integers when driving other cars. If you want to use suspension and tire values from a current exotic F1 car while driving a 1984 touring car or a 1955 F1 car, that's cool. But it sure as hell isn't realistic.
Take care,
PK

After some testing/racing I've got to say it's a superb mod!
1. Graphics: a little bit low-poly, but very good looking and realistic modells. You found the best balance between looks and performance. The amount of skins is amazing, must have been huge work to research all of these historical stuff! Not much chance for a clone-wars-grid online races. :)))
2. Handling: I never drove late-'80s touring cars, but the overall feel of the cars has a realistic feel. Much easier to drive than the HistorX cars, but I suppose it's easier to drive an 1988 M3 than a 1972 CSL... The not too hard handling makes for safer online races, less driver errors. Good.
3. Sounds: default rF sounds. Some of them OK, some of them not. I hope some talented soundmen improve this.
4. Bugs: after the Safety Car fix, still CTDs during online sessions. About 1 in every hour. Better than before the fix, but still...
Big congrats for the team, this mod will make very nerveous girlfriends/wives. :)))
Cheers, and sorry 'bout my terrible English :)

I don't see any point to use Realfeel. And i never make any mod-specific settings to Leo's, i just drop plugin into rF-install and drive.
1. You NEED all 6 skinpacks.
2. Download all 6 from one location (rapidshare or megaupload).
If you download some from rapidshare and some from megaupload, they will not install correctly.

Hmm. Ok. That is a very good reason. :?:

Like Raikku, I don't usually use RealFeel either. For me, it doesn't feel any more real than Leo's. All RealFeel does for me is give me a larger deadzone, where Leo's is strong and tight through out. Maybe it's my wheel? Who knows. But RealFeel is not the "end all" "be all" plugin. Some will disagree, others will agree. :)

On real cars the wheel tries to turn into the direction it is sliding like when the rear steps out. ISI and LeoFFB don't do that. They simply give you an overly heavy springy wheel in a strait line and goes complemently limp when you push the tires past the limit.
With RealFeel you don't have to hunt for the right amount of opposite lock to recover from a slide. You can feel it in the wheel.
But you can count the number of mods that give this level of RealFeel compatability on one hand. Sad.

If RealFeel is used with proper MaxForceAtSteeringRack data on a mod with a properly designed suspension, the dead zone is more accurate and more progressive than Leo's. You'll discover rFactor FFB nirvana if you drive Historic GT & Touring with the supplied controller.ini/RealFeel settings and 100 percent RealFeel or Major_Parts/Cubits' Caterham mod with default RealFeel settings. :)
If you get a big dead zone with RealFeel, it's because either you haven't set it up properly, don't have your wheel set up properly or you're using a mod without proper suspension, or all. You can fix the former and middle easily; there's not a damn thing you can do about the latter.
RealFeel and Leo's are very different in terms of their approach to force feedback. RealFeel is based on suspension action, which I believe the default ISI engine doesn't use at all to calculate force feedback. Leo's is based on tire grip and slip angles, making the more primitive calculations that the default ISI engine uses more sophisticated and overriding a lot of the ridiculous canned FFB that the ISI engine introduces.
Take care,

Pk500 and Lasercutter, with my reply I did not intended to be harsh towards you or the tools and it's creators. Every attempt to improve rF should get respect. That said I do have questions concerning people's opinions on FFB plugins and physics created by a tool. If your first question is if the mod is realfeel compatible because that's the only way then I'm not sure who's the one that is way off. If you say you won't edit any settings because if you have to the physics are bad, not even changing positive to negative then that doesn't give a good impression.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if I recall correctly the difference between pos and neg values was caused by the steering axis being behind or in front of the wheel axis. Most rF suspensions used an arm in front where Carfactory/realfeel use one behind making all existing suspensions feel wrong if you don't edit the settings. Why that was done seems strange to me... especially since lots of real cars also have their steering arms in front. The placement of the steering axis should have nothing to do with the movement of the wheel itself. Yet that difference makes you decide what is/feels wrong or right. As I said, correct me if I'm mistaking, I don't have time to go check all that again. :-)
I did check those out and have used Realfeel in the past. I don't anymore because plugins could increase the chance of disco's while driver swapping in endurance races. We have to work within the boundaries of the rF physics engine and to me Carfactory limited even more because you have to enter results of calculations, a detour. Eg. for So76 I measured the double wishbone suspension of my Lotus and entered the xyz data into the suspension file, that seems pretty close to me. I doubt, if I would calculate kingpin inclination etc from that data and enter it in Carfactory, it would give me the same suspension file. If you claim that by using that tool you would get an even more realistic suspension, that would be saying the rF physics engine is really bad. Let's face it, FFB trough a steering wheel will never be truly realistic in the end.
We never claimed that this mod is perfect and I will never say that my physics are perfect, some things are a matter of opinion and others are worth a discussion, that is if you're open minded of course. If anything in this reply seems harsh to you then I'm sorry, didn't mean to.
Petrol:
While I appreciate Lasercutter's defense of my post, I never took offense to your original reply. It's cool, man. :)
Reversing rack forces based on the location of the suspension is a necessary change for RealFeel depending on the mod, and it's built in to the plug-in with a simple press of a hotkey. You know right away when the rack forces must be reversed when driving with RealFeel!
I appreciate your desire to avoids online discos in endurance races. I have no idea whether RealFeel would affect this or not, as I've never done an online enduro.
Regarding the indictment of the default ISI physics engine, yes, I think it needs serious improvement for rFactor 2. Sims like iRacing and Live For Speed have only highlighted further the weaknesses in ISI's "black ice" physics and poor default force feedback models.
I'm confident that Gjon and team are working hard to correct those deficiencies for rFactor 2, hopefully ignoring the criticisms of lack of eye candy in the initial screens released and focusing on what really matters in a sim.
Again, praise to you and your team for your hard work with TCL.
Take care,
PK

fwiw it taken me 2 years to find the wheel settings I have now.......RF drove like crap for me before that, all mods.
I for one love the accessibility of this mod, its easy enough to drive, yet challenging enough on the limit when you push hard, sure it has some small comprimise but the end result justifies the means IMHO at least.
Driving isn't hard, in fact driving around a track with one hand on the wheel at 95% is still easy in RL. I think people still confuse reality with being impossible to drive and only for the aliens among us.
About CTD's has anyone frequently had them after he installed the pacecar fix?
not as often as before , it crashed once this night while i was playing on my server . i run dedicated server (when hosting) from my home pc , and sometimes people get kicked out and it says "xxx was kicked out because server is not receiving updates from the client" . anyone knows cause for this? thanx

Right - I have just set these up for the TCL mod. tested on the Escort1600i and is flippin awesome. The Leo's settings are matched to the BMW E21 mod so should work good for all the TCL cars (much better than default Leo's F1 BMW2007).
Leo's :
17.5 Front Wheel lock angle, degrees (max deflection to one side from straight on)
0.72 Front wheel distance to centerline (half the front wheel track) in metres, from .pm file
1.075 Front axle distance to body reference point (about half the wheel base) in metres, from .pm file
2.5 Relative strength of FFB effects
6.0 Aligning moment curve shape / feeling of tyre losing grip. Lower numbers are duller, range 1.0 .. 10
0.99 Negative aligning moment parameter for high slip angles, range 0.0 ... 1.0
5.51 Slip angle where aligning moment reverses direction - typically between 8 and 15 degrees
2.0 Caster (dimetionless)
0.0 Camber ratio (not degrees!)
1.0 Road bumps feeling on the wheel
11500.0 maximum FFB force for stationary and low speed effects
10.0 stiffness of stationary wheels
1.5 wheel rubber hardness (1..5)
8.0 how quickly static forces drop off when rolling
And of course used in conjunction with RealFeel :
[Class 1]
MaxForceAtSteeringRack=-2500.000000
SteeringDamper=11500.000000
FFBMixerRealFeelPercent=50.000000

But a guy in my league drives with one hand and is quite fast too. Hahaha.

There was a posting somewhere (cant find the posting atm)
that mentioned about 2 duplicate mas files in the TCL pace car folder that dont belong there.
mercedes.mas and another lol, only TCL_PC190.mas belongs there
i had the mercedes.mas extra in my pace car folder and have deleted it
this applies for users and servers.
Was on Oran Park today (laser version) and had no ctd and i was there awhile.
got no reply when i asked if anyone had a ctd on this track/server.
not sure if it is the "fix", as i just now think of it that the server also have to be fixed
but gonna try a online mid ohio track in a vew minutes.

First of all, great mod......:thumbup::thumbup:..:trophy:, l am liking it immensly.
My only 'gripe' atm is, the TWR/HRT VL's are under-powered. When HRT/TWR built the motors they started with 510hp (380kw) and ended up with about 550hp (410kw) @ 7200rpm. Maximum torque was around 450ft/lbs (610Nm) at around 5500-6000rpm (source - Rob Benson, HRT chief engine builder 1990). I am in the process of building a 'drive-train package' of my own based on these figures, and would gladly pass it on to you if like when finished.. (am waiting on a reply from Harrop Engineering on the actual gear and final drive ratios used/holmogulated for the Group A's).
Credit to all involved on making this great mod, I know what it's like chasing up all the data required and it is a time consuming and (as we have seen in this thread) sometimes thankless job doing it. Congrats to all and THANK YOU....:-D...

This mod is epic in scope on par with SCC, Historx, and the old Prototye C mod for F1C. The shear number of cars and the inclusion of multiple seasons of multiple series is incredible.
I've got to offer my overdue thanks to the creators. I'm partial to tintops to begin with
but this mod really is terrific. So far the cars I've tried all feel great and sound better. The graphics are just fine, thank you, so don't pay attention to those who's lives are meaningful only when they're tearing something down. I'm a bit obsessive about trying to recreate actual season schedules, so as soon as I've done that I will run a couple off-line championship seasons.
Might wait until the Jag is available for that, though. Always fond of the big cat.

Also I would like to say thanks to the people involved. I have been doing laps with this mod for nearly a week now and is certainly one of the best there is, total blast!
For a series point of veiw I think it would be the best as the cars are very different in many ways but over a lap they are quite similar, which always induces great racn for leagues.
Well done again, definately worth getting a divorce for!

well all you people that are putting this down i don't know what the hell you are on about.
i have poor pc specs and the mod still looks great the car's look like they should. they handle perfectly getting the oversteer out of the corners like you would in the old days.
only thing i can say needs work is the sounds but i see that you had no one to do them.
but eaven so most of the sounds are good.
for me this is by far the BEST mod for Rfactor at the moment can't wait to get skinning the car's too.
Looking forward to the updates for this fantastic mod. thanks to all the people involved in it !!!!

I know you said "other than rapid or mega", but... this is the only place to get all the skin packs and the base pack combined (a total of 900 MB approx.):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CS4IQG2O
That file is the original one I d/l, which is fine, but isn't the whole deal 3.6G (including the other skins) ?
I am only after the extra skins, and having to d/l 6 different files (1 at a time, and very slowly because I am not a paying mega user), is going to be a hassle.
I guess I will just have to d/l the whole lot again, via the torrent.
Thanks anyway.
It's ~3.6gb extracted, ~900mb rarred.

Mally, I dont think the issue isthe quality of the mod
In reality anyone who criticises something you really SHOULD be paying something for is inane.
The only issue I think anyone really has with it is the CTD regularity.
The mod itself is superb, no issues there but due to its size and things it seems to be very unstable online.
Had a good old hack round Bathurts the otehr day though so not sure about that!
But back again on normal tracks later on and instant CTD leaving pits as usual
We think we have the CTD problem worked out, we are still testing but hopefully a fix should be out soon.
we will definitely keep working on this as a team until it is fixed

That is excellent news. Oh by the way, just so I'm NOT included in the nay-sayers group, I love this mod!!
I will! Here is some onboard with the M3 + new sounds:

I guess you changed TCL.cam file to get that view. Looks great.
Can you share the values for the lines you've changed please?

or you can press 'u' (or the key you have configured) and move around with the keys (i think you must configure them too)....
Yes but i tought maybe he changed some of the lines in TCL.cam to have that view in one of the onboard cams when you press home key.
I've seen some pretty cool cam positions in other mods, but since i now have only rFLite&TCL i have nowhere to look.
Here's one for the Aussies!

The rev-up when downshifting is a bit unrealistic but this has to be changed in the *.hdv (DownshiftBlipThrottle) which would cause online mismatches!
With original TCL.cam file there are 8 different cameras when you press Home key.
I gave it a try and made 3 extra cameras, so now there are 11 in total.
View is a bit different from car to car.

Backup the old one :)

As frigopie suggests Its only "u" key and moving around a bit to make it look like a dash cam.:-)
OK having had this mod for two weeks now, there is a couple things i am sick of !
Stop fing whinging on rfc about how big a mod it is to obtain (its not that big),
Get the skin pack people...Its not hard!!!!
Yes we are all getting ctds online (though strangely less common for me now)
And people fing whinging about every thing.
I bought rfactor on the strength of this mod as a WIP three years ago...
and have got so much enjoyment from every other mod in the time before this release that it wouldnt have mattered if this mod never saw the light of day.
I dont know what rfactor cost everybody else but it cost me $54 AUD, three years ago ffs!
I would blow more on beer in a week, no problem.
I love this mod and the people that have put in so much time to GIVE it to us, so everybody use the manners that your mother (hopefuly taught you)!
Be patient, to me this is the destined to be the best mod ever (ok i still love Historix and GP79) and with some nice sounds and bug fixes im sure this will prove true.
I dont read the mod threads at all over at RFC, life is to short. Even the perfect mod would attract whining, probably about it being to perfect.

Yes well i probably shouldnt read them either, but it annoys me that some people can be so ungrateful when receiving something for nothing, skinning to me is a major challenge, so i really appreciate the time that has been put in to create this mod.

Looks like big fun but since my rF is buggered and I don't want to sort it all out I won't be getting it. But if there is a conversion I will definitely get it ;)
Keep it up guys

Well said Jim.
I am still getting the CTD online, but only after installing the skin pack.
I managed to race a few guys online (pre skins) the other day and raced all night without incident.
Here's another one! :-)

thanks very much, this mod need realistic sound !!!
If RealFeel is used with proper MaxForceAtSteeringRack data on a mod with a properly designed suspension, the dead zone is more accurate and more progressive than Leo's. ,
PK
Hey bud,
Do you know of a guide to set up realfeel per mod?
And should smoothing be 0 or other?
thx

It appears to me that I can get the game to crash using the 1987 WTCC cars.
BTW.. I love this mod. Keep up the outstanding work!!

Fantastic mod definitely one of the better complete mods out there, welldone fellas
I've just released some Formula Atlantic engine sounds that fit well for the Levin, give em a go:
http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=18128
It was made with GTR2 in mind so you'll need to fiddle around with the AUD and ENG files to get them to work in R Factor but i'm sure you clever lads have figured out how to do that stuff by now ;)
thx again TCL crew...
