OK Thread Hi-jack so here's one specific for this game.
Any version can be discussed here of course.

Personally I'm getting the PS2 version cause my PC may not be able to play it and I don't like XBox's and don't have a PS3 yet.
I love the NFS games and this looks like a better version of that with cockppit views and full FOV too! Nice cars are in there, less for PS2 version but oh well, as said, I'm a NFS/GT4 foolio so I don't care. Looks like I'm missin' out and should have this game already WHOOO I can't wait!!!

Here's the Vid search I did:

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=PS2+test+Drive+Unlimited

Now go grab some coffee and spread the exitement. I MUST finish Carbon NOW!!!

I've been playing this lately. Too bad the pc version is buggy as hell :(.

Even though it isn't a pure sim I like the driving model though I don't use any of the aids and use full manual clutch and shifter by G25.

Well...I went and got it for the PS2 (slimmed down version) and it was worth it.
I jus sat around viewing car interiors for a while...I jus sat there, knowing I was gonna buy the mustang but...Windows down, doors open...Doors close...windows up...*sigh* oh well it's as close as I get.

It's good tho, open the windows and the wind gets loud when you go fast.
I turned the music down quite low and boosted the engine upto full tho...Why were they the otherway round default?

Anyways, seems the PS2 version HAS lost something important... GEARS!!! That's right, auto only! Sucky sucky! But I still like it asd I admire the looks and jus cruise before taking presidency.

Hmmm but the PS2 version seems a little bug like. Some cars when drawn come off of the grass or forest and cut you up and the AI are very wreckful.
All in all tho, not bad for the watered down version I mean, I bought it mainly for the interior stuff...Jus why does it look so damn cold like it's about to rain? It should be sunny as hell tho heavy tropical rain would be awesome!
...Not very imaginative these program folks are they?

In physics it's kinda between a sim and a game tho I'd call it a game very hapily cuz, lets face it, this being NoGrip or not, do we really need to always play sims? No!
So, it has the handling of NFS tho I did do full 360's trying to pull off from the (dumb lackluster) cops but @ the same time, you need to brake for corners, even long easy ones.

And there's a thing, Cops! Sounds like the voice talent's were bored stiff!
No enthusiasm there jus droning voices and the same "Pull over now!" when they get near you! I loved NFS: MW's cops the best because they actually sounded real with stuttering voices and sounds of shock and exitement when you did something!
"PCP, PCP!!! I repeat suspect PCP! can we get some containment here"?
Nope jus: "Suspect lost...continue aimlessly driving" :D

I give it (PS2 Version) 8/10 cuz there is room for improvement BUT there are awesome cars and even rentals too...Really hoped there would bw a TVR Cebera Speed 12 in there tho but oh well...No TVR's. :(
Oh and...I HATE SATNAV! SO I turned it off...and the assists too.
More on this later. I still need more time with it, only had 3 hours so far.

same bugs and more are present in PC version too. bought the game 2 weeks ago and i can't leave it ever since tho. those cars are just amazing to look at and great fun to drive(never understood why the 575 is a class C-damn class destroyer). and that island.... miles and miles of road to drive on and admire the land :P . do the tour of the island challenge... 47 minutes of pure pleasure for me. i can live with all the bugs, the game is just to good for somebugs to ruin it, my only real complaint is the net code, slow map refresh and kinda laggy with 8 players around. btw, car sounds don't feel to well made but that is just my negative side speaking

9/10

Well I'm gettin' into it more now. Even with auto only and bugs and lame cops this game is ACE! Jus drive around, admire cars in showrooms and gimp around with the interior (and open the doors on a Caterham ) then test it for 2 minutes and say "I'll buy that later".

And the island? OH beautiful. As I said about it lookin' cold before it musta jus been cloudy cuz I've had clear skies and even sunset which looked ace. I jus avoid the crappy cops altogether. The other drivers, when not driving into the sky, are ok but when they turn they sometimes take both sides to do so.
It's funny to see em crash into each other too.

Varing difficulties sees you race cars slower, same or more powerful than you and the buy a tune-up and go feature keeps you going. I love tuning and sims too but this game is fine as is tho the cops could be better and ythe bugs but...Driver 3 had the most bugs ever and it's the same dudes so, to be expected.

OOOOOOH what to do, what to do, what to do, what to do, what to do tomorrow? I still need to get to the otherside of the island and the challenges...Class E still incomplete yet I have class D open now and a class D car bought and won a Shelby GT500 and...and and and and and and and....................:headspin:

I think I may be able to bump it upto 9/10 now with more time I have seen its plus sides and there's LOTS!!!

Dunno what you mean, Caterhams seem the most fun cars to drive( to some of us). You just don't feel so vulnerable in any other car:roflmao: . + its like a racebike on 4 wheels, the acceleration and handling are killers, but top speed of 273 km/h is weak for a class B car (the full tuned version)

BTW Moatl, any skins for a saleen 281 on the horizon? :D

Kongo
13 April 07, 20:30
Hey I'm British so I LOVE Caterham's. Nice attention they put into the front wheels bobbing up and down whilst in cockpit view.

What I mean is, go in the garage or showroom and use the "open door" command. You can hear em open and then close but it don't gots no doors! SPOOKY!
Also, Cobra's (and other cars with no windows) you can do the same there with the windows!
Thing is, in order to get the "driving wind" sound in em you have to wind the windows down. Odd glitches there huh. Birds are good tho, dive infront of your car and make you jump like in life.
So much detail put in shame the AI are stupid but I love it.

Amazing how many GTL cars there are, I jus one the Sheby Cobra Daytona Coupe! :)
I've been beating Saleen S7 twin turbo's in my D class car (Nissan Skyline) in hard and got a meaty 80,000+ credits. Now that's NICE!
And done my round the island trip too and highlighted everything...took half the day!!!

Stoopid TDU servers are down again for the PC!

God damn it, I'm tired, I just wanna cruise around the Island in my E-type.

It's not fair

You'll be needing the PC buggy versions patch then. I see the link has already been posted above...I think.

I'm enjoying my Daytona Coupe and Caterham @ the mo.
Class C is fulla classics...as is the game.

Heh - I just got the Caterham.

All I can say is - fffffaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast.

Accelerate, and bang - bouncing off the rev-limiter in top doing 150mph.:p

Kongo
15 April 07, 20:20
Tune it up dude. Then draft someone to do 190 MPH!
I jus love these classics, I still drive the Shelby GT500! Jus cause there's supercars there doesn't mean I HAVE to use em all the time and wen I do on the streets I jus get into too much trouble. :D

i thought the island tour was a bit long. well that's ok, the millionaire's race is 200 km :p took me just over 50 mins... damn traffic.

and don't try hardcore mode if you just think it's going to make the game more sim-like, it doesn't. H mode is just for fun. the only place you can appreciate it is at the track drifting

Kongo
17 April 07, 14:02
And I love it. :)
Who cares about it not being sim like. It'd be unplayable if it was. Have you ever tried to speed on the streets and avoid cars succesfully? Didn't think so...
Boy, life is a real simulator, why would I wanna play a game of life? I play games to escape it.
GTL is the only sim I'm hardcore about. GTR2 follows as will rFactor.

GO BUY IT AND ENJOY!!!
It'll get better as more people get into it jus like rFactor.

Ok i love it. I love driving the Pontiac GTO even though i only drive it because its Australian.

For those people with high end Graphics cards like a 8800GTX: Over at the GMF clan forums MansonGT has made a Ultra high graphics mod which. . . ahh makes all the graphics ultra high. I have seen some screeneies and its awsome.

Also is there multiple servers because their aint alot of people on my map considering to play this game you have to be online.

Gonna pick it up tomorrow after school...

Really? I don't.....

AWD
18 April 07, 05:21
you can play TDU both on and offline. thing is, you need the damn gamespy account for it( names like t3h00p$) and gamespy servers needed to play online are very unstable. in short, you can't play an line account online and viceversa. sometimes when you are online and servers go down you can still play without the game kicking you to the menu but just sometimes. I don't really know about number of servers but population is high esp after 18:00 GMT. if you zoom out on the map to the max, you will see purpleish smoke over some areas. (if i am not mistaken that is population density in the area)
zoom into a specific location with such smoke, wait for 10 sec for the map to refresh and voila 5-10 players in just one area.

at champion you unlock the racetrack south of the airport, some great fun there. also champion level unlocks H(ardcore) mode. that is also interesting... not gonna comment on H mode handling, suffice to say i only found it any fun on the racetrack.

imo the game needs more work, the patch announced should fix some issues. overall it quickly turned into a time consuming favourite i can hardly lay aside

I agree. The idea is there. Now lets hope they build on it. It may take time but I think there on the way to create the best "Chill out" driving game to date!:)

I just bought the download PC version Sundaynight only because I try to get all PC car driving games. After about 10 minutes of playing this game, I could already see this game seriously cutting into my GTR2 track converting time. This game is really a big suprise. I have had no issues with lockups or bugs so far. I run at 1920 x 1200 resolution 14AA 16AF HQ (Crossfire enabled) and I still maintain 30-45 fps. It's one of those games you start playing and the next thing you know it's the next day already. I love it, and it's got Vettes, new and old. I know what I'll be driving. :D

Yes, there is a patch. It fixes some of the major bugs (not all of them, unfortunately) and adds two new cars: Nissan Skyline R34 and Audi RS4 Quattro Saloon.

You can download the patch here:

I have this game and I like it. Offers lots of possibilities, and the cars are awesome. Unfortunately it's not modding-friendly, but modders have already managed to switch car sounds, bodies, and rims.
