Hi everyone,
I am looking for a demo version of Rfactor, So I can check and see if my computer can run the racing sim.
Can someone point me to a website that has the demo version of Rfactor?
Thanks.
...the demo and the full game being the same file (about ~700Mb).
You just run it as a demo until (and if) you decide to buy an unlock code which permits you to use the whole content and add mods.

I have problem guys!
...wit rFactor.
I downloaded demo from mirrors on main site, and I can`t install them.
Every time i try, it reports `error decompressing data! Corrupted installer?`...
I downloaded game 3 times from different mirrors and every single time it stops on 2% decompressing with error message above!
I tried both with Download manager (getright) and without ...
Please help!
Tnx

Im not sure about the problem, Because I had no problems installing the demo version of the game and I got very good framerates which really suprise me compared to when I run GTR 2, So that brings me up to some of these questions that I would like to ask before I commit on getting the full version and the following questions are as follows:
1. Lets say I bought the full version today and I got hit by a virus on Friday and I have to reformat the computer. Will I still be able to play Rfactor after the virus cleanup or do I need to pay for the full version again?
2. On the mods, Im mainly concerned only on Formula one mods as I am a big F1 fan especially from the late 80's. I was wondering if there is a late 80's mod for F1 that has Mansell, Piqueot, Prost, and Senna?
3. Do the mods of the game knock down the framerates from the demo version and if so. How much does it hurt the framerates?
4. Are there a good amount of street circuits for this game as I am a big fan of the street courses like (Monaco, Long Beach, Houston, Detroit, Toronto, and so forth)?
5. Is there a replay mode and if so, How long is the replay mode?
6. This question is for those people who own both the GTR 2 and Rfactor games....Which game do you get better framerates in?
Thanks.

1. apparently u can download it again for free so many times, (i think 5)
but as soon as u get it installed, and it works, put the installer onto a disk so u have a back-up
2. i think there may be an 80's mod in progress, if there isnt, im sure there will be, but until then, theres a '79 f1 mod :)
3.depends on wat mod, some mods have diferent frame rates, i get good frames on the 2006 F1 mod, and many other mods i have
4.ther are street cuircuts available, but ther should be more on the way
5. there is a replay mode, instat replay can be set to about 180 seconds,(i think
6. i get better frames in rfactor
i hope this helped:) u can find the mods here www.rfactorcentral.com (http://www.rfactorcentral.com)
1. If you backup all the stuff you get from rFactor concerning your purchase and keep all relevant emails somewhere safe, you should be able to get away with reinstalling and not having to use one of the (I think it's 3 or 4) free activations you are credited with when you buy. Each year I think you are credited with a spare activation. After you have used your free alotted activations you can buy extra ones for a nominal fee.
2. There are some 1980 mods in production, there is a 79 mod, and there are several 90's mods in production. There exists about six 2000 mods.
3. Different mods definately impact on your system differently. F1 2005 by CTDP for instance runs at about 30-40fps whereas F1Extreme 2006 runs at 60-70fps yet F1Extreme looks as great visually as CTDP's F12005.
4. More street circuits than you can shack a stick at. I have over 200 circuits in my rFactor Locations folder!
5. The replays are superb and you can play about with the cameras to your hearts content zooming in and out, tilting, rotating, pitching up and down, panning, all the stuff you wished you could do with GTR2 but could not!
6. It does depend upon the mod. Framerates generally are better in rFactor some would say that is because GTR2 is visually superior to rFactor, however that is not always the case.

Sorry dude, but GTR2 graphics are better than any rFactor mod
But the framerates on rF are way better than GTR2 at the same settings:up:

Have you checked the file size after the download has finished? If as I suspect the file is incomplete you probably need another download manager! But what I suggest you do is use the Firefox Browser as this supports resume downloads natively and in my experience many sites don't like download managers because they keep polling and using up their precious bandwidth. The sites get their own back by decieving the download manager into thinking it's got a complete uncorrupted file.
Is it a zip or a rar on an exe you get? I can't for the life of me remember! It's worth using winzip's or winrar's test functions to check the file they might tell you what's wrong with it if the file is complete.
That's all I can think of for now, got to go and get supper ready or the family will starve! Ciao.

Ok folks, What I did was did recorded some video from the Rfactor demo version of Toban and did some video of the full version of GTR 2 on Toban with a stand alone car. I am uploading to youtube right now. I will also be posting one of my GTR 2 races from Toban long. With that video, You will be able to see the framerate stutter a little. I will be posting them in a little while in this thread, So people can judge for themselves on what the car should be.
EDIT:...Ok, Here are my videos as I stated above. The first video is a a mixture of the Rfactor demo and the full version of GTR 2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=N64IQJ7hTic It looks like I pretty got the same framerates between both versions, But I am not sure if the full version of the game will knowck the framerates down.
The second video is of a GTR 2 race that I did a couple days at Toban long which is one of my favorite tracks for GTR 2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=clerh4UypJU Ninety percent of the cars in this race are stand alone cars that I downloaded. As you can see, The framerates are jumpy at times in the video.
As for what I want out of Rfactor is as follows:
Like I stated, I am a big Aryton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Nigell Mansell, and Alain prost fan and I see there is a Marlboro mclaren skin like what Senna and Prost drove and a williams renaut skin like Piquet and Mansell drove back in the 80's and I am trying to figure what mod I can use both skins for.
The mods that I have interests in are the GP2 series 1.0, Formula IS v 2006, and the Nippon Racing v1.2 mods. Whichever takes the less framerates and I can use the skins on is the one I will use. I have only plans to install 2 mods. One of those 3 open wheel mods and a nascar mod. Other than that, The only thing I will be installing are the tracks. I will still race my other cars in the GTR 2 game.
Please advice on what you think of the videos and the mods as it would be helpful in making up my mind on getting Rfactor. Thank you very much.

It does seem that people get different results on their systems but on my system, GTR2 has a similar frame-rate to the ISI tin-tops in rFactor, in back of grid tests which is where it really matters. Some rFactor mods are better than the ISI tin-tops (e.g. the V8 mod) and some are worse (e.g. the PCC mod). The demo you are using is the full version in terms of assessing frame-rates, don't worry that the "full version" will be worse.

The skins are for F-Sum
How hard of a hit does the F-sum mod take on the game when racing at Monaco, Long Beach, Surfers Paradise, or even Toban?
BTW, I really like how the cars handle in the demo version of this game. It is so much easier to drive the cars than GTR 2. Does the F-sum mod pretty much handle the same way?

F-Sum is very Frame Rate friendly everywhere. :roflmao:
F-Sum cars handle well and are responsive to set up changes. Be careful when selecting cars because there are 3 levels. And if you start with the slightly slower cars you will come up against cars that are a lot faster unless you had the foresight to select your opposition in vehicle menu :)

Yes... on v3 the focus is on the the GP cars so you have to click on options to see the other classes.
Some people think that the fsum-gp are acardey as the tires have very high grip... in fact it's noth the tire it's the downforce ... the defaut setup makes the downforce really high ... yo you may lower the wings to get a more realistic grip. Yu can also try the other classes fsum-one fsum-oval or fsum-exp... they have much lower downforce... but once again the gp class is really fun and perfect for an all star race with Gilles Villeneuve, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna (the Marlboro livery), Nelson Piquet, Nigel MAnsell, Andrea de Cesaris, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jackie Stewart and more!
Note that the fsum-one classe due to a lower grip that ISI model is a bit slower than ISI F1

Snowy-`Have you checked the file size after the download has finished?`
Yes i have checked and it`s about 688Mb (the same size as site reported)...
I repeat.. i downloaded both...via GetRight and default firefox downloader.
...but maybe this information will help:
It`s not rFactor game alone that won`t install...
I`m getting error messages with other modern games (even I changed 3 DVD writers)... FEAR, Stalker, Armed assault,...
All of them I bought on brand new dvds and they`r all reporting errors with corrupted installation and Abort/retry/ignore options during install.
I know it`s a little bit offtopic but it may be connected with rfactor problem as well, so i apritiate every cind of help
The system is WindowsXP SP2 with Nod32 running in the background (but it`s turned off when i`m installing something)...
HDD is WD cavier 160Gb/4 partitions (brand new)...memory kingston 1 Gb.
The symptoms are very reminiscent of the problems I had when my Random Access Memory started to break down. It may be three things: A. One or other of your memory sticks is failing and has bad sectors. B. Your settings for the memory are to high or demanding (This is the first thing to try, lower your memory settings in your bios). C. There are compatibility issues with your memory and motherboard (quite common believe it or not).

can run the demo mods?. if so: which mods? i gonna buy rFactor
but first... buy my new PC:yes:
I don't think any mods will work in the demo version (unless it's cracked). You could always try I guess. But which mod to choose, I don't know what you really like but you could try FSONE 2006 or the Gallardo Challenge.
