The No Grip iRacing Lounge
Because coming here to NG is getting freaky when you see a thread that is general hinjinx with your name on it..... This is the thread for shooting the breeze or searching for another racer to race or practice with.
Yes, I realize you could use the forum over there, but it's more fun to run with people you "know". Or if you just want to talk about your most recent race..... Go ahead! |
Oh Hai

Guess what! I just found I subliminally backed all my brake markers back a few feet! Darn thing was costing me a second. It's sad someone like Moppy has a win in the Skippy, yet I don't. Wheres da justice man!? |

btw i might do another race tomorrow. would like to get a race in the mazda tho. |
Ive got two skip wins nucka
|
Well I likely won't race tomorrow evening due to work. May slip into the 3:15 Central race though.
Once I changed my marks to where I thought they were I was running 29.3's or so. Loads of time left, as I was atleast 5 tenths up on my PB to that point (Which was a high 29), then lost about 3 tenths in the Tower turn alone, and clawed that time back. 28's are in sight. nucka? WTF is that? Sounds like something Mally would say. |
You enjoy your time eating the alien's dust, I'll keep mopping up the low splits

I actually like being in the fast splits. It's fun being in the "Rookie" division and either A) Beating D1 guys, or B) just knowing that I'm one of only a few rookies at most in that race. I just have to find another second around Sebring, and I'm getting smoked in Tower and Le Mans, so the time could be there to atleast be competitive. |

So are you still under 1000?

The good news about my new'ish iRacing career ...
1) I tend to see slight improvements on most nights. 2) There are people slower than me. 3) I am having fun ... most of the time. The not so good news ... 1) I am still off the pace of the fast people. 2) I am not very good at ovals. I do dabble in a few different cars (SK Modified is my favorite oval racer, Late Models are okay but not as fun as the SK Modified and I also do small amounts of Advanced Legends and Rookie Legends training). On the road car side I do some (not a lot) of Rookie Solstice training and some Spec Racer Ford stuff. But I'd say most of my focus goes towards the Skip Barber. I was respectable at Laguna Seca (taking a 3rd in one Skip Barber race) and I did find some consistency at Summit Point (after spinning off tons of times in practice). This week is Sebring and I have even found a way not to spin at Sebring's last turn. But what is common for me in all of the three Skip Barber tracks is that I am about 4-5 seconds slower than the really fast people. I know I can go faster ... but when I try and push it, I spin out. Haha ... Lately I have been doing more practice/qualifying sessions and less racing. My SR is high enough in road racing to qualify for my C License in less than 2 weeks from now (I don't think Fast Track has started yet) ... but I don't want my C yet, so I am likely to purposely not fulfill my MPR for the remainder of season #3. I need to figure out how to bridge those 4 second gaps in the Skip Barber before I jump in faster cars. :crying: |
I'm on probation for 8 months :(

 @993C2 - if your going to race the C stuff go for it. If you have the content you need already NOT fulfilling it is kinda crazy. And I would ask Moppy about how he feel's about driving multiple cars. And ask him about his speed also. |

People are babies. I've still yet to protest, though I'm about this close to doing so.... Next time someone keeps up the inside UNDER A LOCAL YELLOW when the car is parked on the inside (go figure, you know what happens next) or weaves......
People need to chill out yo! BTW Leach - Into the 28's. |

Been running the Lotus around Homestead in TTs and have gone from 1.39 to 1.73 in 2 hrs, hopefully tomorrow im up above 2.0 and safely stayed in B for next season to drive the c6r.....hopefully with a week left i can get to 3.0 and drive the dallara next season
|
I would just like to chime in here.....
I WON!!!!! In the greatest fashion also. Let's just say that there was some supreme driving going around, I had a lead no larger than a second the whole race, just fast enough to stay up front. THE most exciting race to date in my experience. Nothing but CLEAN, HARD, Fast racing. I'm making a vid of this. Screenies and a war story on the forums to ensue. :D Posting this for when I get around to making the Vid http://members.iracing.com/membersit...8&custid=33128 |
I knocked off close to 1.5 seconds in the Skip Barber from my lap times at Sebring this evening with my PB now at 2:32:607. I am still 6 seconds slower than the world record aliens and 3 seconds slower than the fast peeps. But heck I'm happy with the improvements in the last 24 hours. I know I can go faster, I just have to be cleaner on all my turns and try to find more speed in the first and last corners.
BTW ... why does Matt's division in the race he won say "R" as in rookie? No lo entiendo ... he has been around longer than me, is faster than me, he has a higher iRating than me and I have been placed in Division 9. Or maybe "R" stands for "Rockin". LOL |

Though, "protip" from a non pro, it's always the second set of cones at Sebring. Blow by the first cones, smack on the brakes at the second set. Move your marks back or forward as neccessary, but cone set 2 as a general rule. I dunno either. I'm interested to see where I fall in myself. How many weeks have you raced in the skippy? I think it's after 3 weeks, which should be coming for me, though I do recall a race at LRP a while ago.... |
I watched a couple of replays from the aliens. I don't want to get too hung up on their driving since they are pretty much driving on the edge squealing around every corner. My braking points tend to be sooner than the aliens, but I believe one of the secrets for my better times this evening was that I took my braking a little deeper closer to where the aliens brake.
I may be able to shave off more time this week (I am not expecting any miracles) but I also realize that it could take a few weeks, likely a few months before I see any big improvements. I am still new to iRacing and new to the Skip Barber and who knows, I like my wheel/pedal controller setup but maybe the aliens would barf if they drove it with how I have things setup. LOL ... I'm not using any fancy driving rig, just a G25 attached to my desk. But I do have a nice large 32" flat screen monitor. |
Try a Momo attached to the Desk with a nice tiny 15" flat screen
Yea. I roll that way. When I got to Sebring this week I was running 30's out of the box (It is afterall my favorite track in GTR2, even though the layout is wrong there it does help to know what to expect), and found that a few days in I subconsciously moved my markers back a few feet and was struggling to get into the 30's. Don't be afraid to push the car! |

I have just found interesting article about iRacing in major media - New York Times internet edition:

Can't believe I finished 4th that race, and I even managed a 28.8. Spun it on like lap 2 or 3 entering one, dunno why, I think I hit a bump or something, but I thought for sure I was done. Caught Bret and it took a while to negotiate a way around him, but by that time you were already gone so I just rode around making sure I didn't out brake myself or run off course.

Oval racing is still easier IMO. I guess I just have more experience (I started in NR1999 Season), I just don't find it as fun. It's just to easy for me to be patient and wait for someone to bring out a yellow and bunch back up. Still want to get into the Late Model at some point, only oval car (Sans IRL car) I could stand to drive. |
Oval racing is easier, without a doubt. Never said it wasn't. But it's my forte, and road racing is just something I enjoy on the side.
|
Yea, I'm not trying to say that you said it's easier or put words into your mouth. I just enjoy the extra challenge from road racing, where as oval racing everywhere I've been just seems to be "Who can drive the loosest car for the length of the race" rather than involving to much race craft. In road racing you just have SO MUCH time you can lose compared to Oval races, it forces you to drive all out rather than just ride around at a decent speed (Atleast to me).
I'm working on plotting out next seasons schedule for me. Not going to likely have enough money to just plonk down up front for everything for the Vette, so some strategy will be needed. Wk1 Silverstone GP - Radical / VIR Full - Vette, if I get up to 4.0 early in the week (My sub is up next week, not gonna pick up Infineon to run the skippy this week, waiting to resub) Wk2 VIR - Skippy / Watkins Glen boot - Vette. Depends on if I pick up VIR or not for the Vette in wk.1. Wk3-5 Vette fo sho! 5-6 Radical Yet, from then on it's a total crap shoot as I likely won't have to many tracks. But I dunno. If I sub for the season, basically $30 a paycheck, which isn't to bad at all. Hmmm. Contemplation sucks. |
I'll probably drop the skippy when the vette comes out and focus on that for the road racing then Impala B and Impala A for oval.
|
Mazduh.
Picking it up tonight, log laps tomorrow. I figure that it's cheaper than the Vette will be, plus its run every day. Anyone up for some practice laps tomorrow to get me up to speed in this goofy sounding car? |

finally got an impala b win, making an $11 donation to the Susan G. Komen foundation tomorrow.

Pretty darn easy to drive though. I'm running 106's now and usually up a few tenths on that pace, I just make a LOT of mistakes in this rocketship. Then again Summit isn't my favorite or my best track. |
