Sigh, hardly raced at all again lately and I really wanted to get more time in this season. :(
Spa has got me inspired again though :D |
Any of you guys use Crossfire in iRacing?
I noticed iRacing was not in the latest profiles pack. Just not getting an improvement in performance at all. |
Raises hand...
Ok,
So I think I am planning to sign up for iRacing, but I would like to know if anyone knows the answer to my question about payment. I would like to pay for my membership with a Visa gift card. This card is of the type that does not have a name on it. Has anyone gone this route with iRacing? I have written them about another subject, but they never replied; that fact has never sat well with me. I am asking here for the reason exists that I expect them to ignore email. Any help is appreciated. Derek |
I don't know the answer. They have gift cards that can be purchased on the main page.

I will write them and hope they respond. Thanks pj :) d |
I saw this
What forms of payments does iRacing accept? Payment options include Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express debit or credit cards. Other alternatives are prepaid bank debit/credit cards. Paypal is also available. http://www.iracing.com/faqs-v2/ |

I put in an email to them and I will see what they say. If they help, I will post their reply here. I hope they reply before the promo runs out! Derek |
I have had this question myself. Is the Prepaid Credit card the same as an amex/visa gift card? Clear as mud.

Ok, so now the next step is to sign up and get to racing you guys ;) Derek PS - see you at Spa :drive2: |

http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/fo...play.php?f=137 we've been talking about all of this for a bit. I like this pedal, but it lacks compatibility with other interfaces and the price is too high. But it is close. All is needs is some FFB feedback. d EDIT - I dug up the link to the people who make it: http://sim-sport.net/the_perfect_pedal.html I'd like to reverse engineer this thing and make it for 89.00 bucks. |

They say they have patented it but I can't see how with prior art. |
Merry Christmas to all the iRacers out there.

yep merry xmas to everyone as well, and you too krit.

Yes, Merry Christmas all.

It is way less than the cost of the average model airplane ARF once you've bought and installed the radio gear, engine, etc, and then built the ARF. And those often are wiped out in a heartbeat. I fly at 3 different clubs and at every one, the average modeler has way more than one. And probably 1/3 of them have crashed at least one in the last season. Nah, $250 isn't going to stop serious hobby guys. BTW, don't bother trying to make it for cheap. Just call China. They probably could make you a boat load for less. They're already undercutting what used to be an healthy US industry producing model plane kits and such. |
That brake pedal really is something awesome.
There are a lot of men that braking based on pedal pressure is so ingrained after years and years of doing it, that probably never will get used to that silly rubber feeling thingy that comes with the "realistic pedal sets". It's taken me the better part of a week to realize that iRacing's braking seems to be about 3 or 4X more controllable than braking is in the other games I play. I just don't have a good feel for brake position even after years of sim-racing. It's actually still game-racing as long as the brake function is so unrealistic. Best news I've seen this Christmas. The VERY best news............. |
Yes, having done Club motorsport in the UK for 18 years, the costs involved in iRacing really don't match up at all (i.e. it's very cheap) race entries last season were typically £250 ($400) for ten laps and 15 mins practice!!. Unless of course you want a full motion cockpit!!
|
Yes, thinking back, way back, the costs for real world racing at it's cheapest CRUSH the costs of iRacing FLAT.
So far, I've gotten a couple of thousands worth of track time just at one track, and that doesn't consider the tires, gas/oil, damage, broken stuff, crew costs, travel expenses, etc |
|
Looks like fun!

Sigh! 1st race in awhile and get caught up in someone else's accident on the very 1st lap. Truck is undriveable and I have to get a tow.
I just make it out of the pits before getting lapped again but a slower truck is in front of me as we go all the way around to catch the field on the restart. The race goes green and we are just entering turn 3/4 but the guy in front is so slow I can't really avoid passing him and get black flagged for passing before the line ....even though the rest of the field is way ahead. Ended up 11th and thankfully didn't lose any SR at least. ;-) http://members.iracing.com/membersit...8&custid=39158 |
Well the last couple races have been rather odd for me. Yesterday my internet cuts out and I lose a bunch of laps, and today I get a spontaneous reboot and lose 6 laps.
Neither of which has ever happened to me before. I think the racing gods are trying to tell me something :) |
Interesting race, a fairly early caution but most didn't pit. i was certainly expecting more later, but it didn't happen. So I have to pit with 5 laps to go.
Just as i'm getting back up to speed on the backstretch.....YELLOW!!! Ended up the #6 who I drafted with most of the race wins. He won because he was one of the few who pitted at the earlier caution and just made it on fuel. I end up 10th a lap down but 0 inc..yay! http://members.iracing.com/membersit...8&custid=39158 |
Nice one.

If it was the auto repair gods, you'd have to skin a knuckle, but since this is the internet, you probably have to use paypal in some way. |
The gods taketh & giveth right back with 3 straight 0 inc races including this beauty
Only one caution early in the race and I pitted hoping to make it on fuel. I just kind of hang out at the back conserving fuel. Lo & behold no more cautions and most have to pit and i'm up to 3rd with two laps to go. I've been drafting the #12 most of the race and he runs out of fuel in turn 2 of the final lap. I'm thinking 2nd yay!! Coming out of the final turn my engine starts burping as i run out of fuel myself and I just get knicked at the line and end up 3rd. Still it was a great finish :-) http://members.iracing.com/membersit...0&custid=39158 |
hey guys. i got my d license last monday and bought the skip barber last night.
i dont really know the summit point raceway very well. i did a buch of practice laps friday night to get used to the car & track and at first hated how slow and slippery the car is. the track is not my favorite and i dont really know where the braking points are. i was doing 1:25 and the faster guys doing about 1:20 ~ 1:21. i was regretting buying the car and all the tracks to participate on the complete series.... regardless of that, i went ahead and did my first race today saturday and surprise surprise.. even though i finished 8 out of 14 (starting dead last) i have completed my first 0 incidents race! i managed a +0.22 safety rating on my first ever skip race... just wanted to share with you guys. even if i am really slow with this car its the first time i have 0 incidents for 20 straight laps. not bad for my first day with the new car! cheers! |
Well done. Pump the front tyres up to 27 or 28, leave the rears at 23 or 24. That will help you in the Skippy to begin with. Perches +8 or +10.
|
I just finished my first race with the Skippy and I managed a win with no incursions!!:-D
Must've been in a lower split as I started on pole and my iRating is only at 1886. Still most of the guys were running 1.21/22's my pole time being a 1.21.608. I was a bit dubious about entering a race because I am still learning the car but Im glad I did now and had a good battle with a guy chasing me for a 4 or 5 laps until he span out. Seriously loving this car and it's mannerisms. Great fun to drive near to the limit. I spent most of the day doing tt's trying different setups out to try and find one I could drive without spinning every few laps (baseline set is LOOSE!). After reading the Skip Barber setup guide had a much better idea of what I was doing with the limited options available. Anyway I have settled on this..... Front Brake Bias = 55% Front and Rear tire pressure = 22 Spring Perch Offset = 9 Rear Anti-rollbar = 6 Managed a 1.21.468 with this setup but I am still braking way too early in the heavy braking zones and the car feels unstable on turn in. I guess this is because I don't apply any throttle while still on the brakes but that would mean left foot braking and it is not possible in the Skip Barber irl. Oh well, I suppose if I insist on driving it like it should be then I will always get guys outbraking me..........just have to catch them on the twisty stuff.:-) Any thoughts on my setup from the more experienced guys?? |
Good result well done.
Your set up looks good to me. As I've said in the Skip it is what feels good to you. I've seen fast laps posted by guy's with Perches at + 10 and -10, so it's the combination that suits you best. I mostly liked the Fronts +1 to the Rears but some tracks I ended up level as you had and some tracks just one tyre up a pound. |
Thanks.
Yeah I found with the perch set around the +10 mark the car is more prone to oversteer but is more controllable when it starts to slide out. With it set as a minus the car is more stable but when it lets go it's gone!!! I did have the Rear ARB set at 10 but I was getting out of shape in the low speed stuff so I knocked it down a couple of notches. I will try +1 psi on the fronts tomorrow or maybe -1 on the rears. What is the lowest psi people run in these cars?? |
Quote:
I bet if you check on which split you were in, you'd discover that 1886 iRating gridded you with the 2nd split of an entry that probably had at least 4 splits, or in the 3rd split of 5 or 6. Definitely in an upper split. You should be proud of the 1886 as much as the win. Kewl....... both of them. |
Lowest psi used to be 22 or 21, don't know if that's still true now the tyres are updated.
I used to run everywhere with 8 ARB but again I started doing 7 or 6 on some tracks as I got to know the car better. |
Good job Freejrs!!
I'm also starting to re-enjoy the Skippy (I drived the SM for the WC and the transition back was terrible hard). As Allan has said almost every setup is equally fast, if driven by the proper driver. You just have to find the one you are confortable with. In general a 21-22 (I'm doing it by hard, I use the metric system, ejem, the international one :-P) front pressure and a 22-23 rear pressure work well. As for the perch, I've seen Roland nailing Road Altanta with a minus perch, but in general a positive one is used (+6/+8). The rear ARB is still a mistery to me, I'm unable to reach any conclusion, so I use a 8 value. I had a really nice race today, starting second but getting the first position by free when the poleman was gone. I made a mistake while leading by 5 secs (mid race), but I was able to mantain the lead by a tiny margin. He was faster than me in the first sector and part of the second, but I managed somehow tho make little differences on the Ss so that he couldn't take my draft properly in the straight. I won it but it's been by far the toughest race ever, my hands were shaking for a minute after finishing!! I don't plan to race again, but I did a practice sesion to see if I could improve my PB, sure I did! It was a 21.6 from qualifying and beat it by... half a second!!! I still don't know how I did it. I'll upload the lap tomorrow so you can see it. All I did is to highten the offset by 2 clicks...:?: |
About to try my 1st official indy car race...this should be interesting. :crying::drive2:

I think there were quite a lot of entries when I registered for it. It was above 50 drivers that entered I believe. Quote:
Although I already knew a little bit about setting up a car to handle how I want iRacing is the first sim/game that I have actually been able to really feel the adjustments I made as soon as I went out on track. Really impressed tbh. I think I will learn more from iRacing in regards to driving technique and setup than I ever did in other sims and I guess that's why iRacing is so good and costs so much. Personally I think you should be able to use the content you buy offline even if your sub runs out. I mean I just wanged £40 on 3 cars and 3 tracks and it would be nice to know that I always have access to them even if I don't renew my sub. Obviously they would lose some subs this way though....... Quote:
Great job with that lap time!!!:-D  |
Yeah, a 10 value was a bit harder to drive, it kept bottoming in some corners as well as inducing a high amount of oversteer. Maybe I was just inspired but using a lower value seemed to help quite a lot.
As I said here you've got the lap: One of the reasons I beat my PB was a matter of confidence. I tried to stick to the concrete paths and try to carry more speed while entering (mainly) T1 and T5. |
Whew! made it til the end.
Sometimes people make me mad though as we had a bit of a spat after the race. I'm running 9th at the end with two guys not too far ahead but there's no way i'll catch them on the last lap. So what happens? They stop racing before even having crossed the finish line and I zip past one guy to take 8th. Unfortunately I lose control as I have to slow so fast to avoid hitting anyone and end up hitting the next guy. Of course i get blamed...blah blah "some people", I'm called. I'm too mad at that to get into an argument . Luckily none of us got penalized as everyone had crossed the line. Still was a good experience, makes me wish I'd raced more there this week and now I'll contemplate running the Indy 500 too. http://members.iracing.com/membersit...6&custid=39158 |
Really nice clean lap. :-) Good work. You really take good speed into the slow corners.
It's crazy how much stronger you are on the brakes than me though. I heel and toe, clutch on every downshift and I just cannot get that same stability as guys who left foot brake and feather the throttle into the corner thus causing me brake earlier. I have been trying to get back on the throttle as soon as I can after braking but there is still a moment when the car is unstable. I must improve!! :-D |
Since I started throttle braking I'm much more confident under heavy breaking. The technique is almost imposible to do in a real Skip Barber as I've read, but it helps so much in stabilizing the car... Anyway, this car doesn't need clutching in order to engage gears, so yo might consider LFB-ing so as to gain some good 1/10ths :-P
|
As you say LFB is not possible in the Skip Barber in real life so my stubborn brain will not let me do it in the sim!!!! :-D
I don't clutch on upshifts but it is necessary on down shifts with a quick heel and toe. |
Is it me or is the online racing in iracing almost non-existent?? Just purchased it. Joined the Nvidia cup and all I can do is a little practise/ qually. Only one race on tuesday.
Only 6 hosted servers online... |

Check the Nvidia Cup results page. It's packed with races. http://members.iracing.com/membersit....do?season=413 Here are some fun stats. So far in the first week of the Nvidia cup season there have been... 658 races for an average of 109 per day or 4.5 every hour. 360 different winners of an individual race. Bela Perei has the most race wins with 17 in 23 starts. John Sanna has the most race starts with 42. |
lolz, must be overlooking something then:blushing:
So far only the qualifying and practise turns red on the sessions page, maybe it's just my lousy timing  |
They are meant to be red just click on one!!
Check they are not full it tells you how full in the brackets. The three practice sessions up now are currently 342 (4/20) - so 16 spaces left 564 (1/20) - so 19 space left 566 (0/20) - so empty currently |
