Default Banner Competition Winners

Finally we have come to decision, although perhaps not the one we initially expected to make.

Because there were so many quality entries we've found it impossible to pick just one, so instead we decided to revise the prizes a little, meaning there will be 10 winners each receiving a years Donated status.

They are (in alphabetical order),

adriecoot, DeeMoNay, drw, Gilles da Silva, phaloid, resureksiyon, satceb, Scyrion, shaystarwars98 and skip78.

The winning banners are now in rotation so you'll see them all popping up as you browse the site.

An honorable mention also goes to the Christmas themed banner by Gilles da Silva, you can be sure we'll be using that in the very near future.

Finally, a very big thank you to everyone who entered

Congrats to all the winners!

Personally I think the best (read most imaginative/interesting) designs were left out in favour of the more boring standard looking ones.

Congrats to everyone! Winning the prize in this competition really made my day because there were so many great entries in different styles or techniques and to me it would be impossible to pick just one or even ten winning entries. again thanks to everyone for your efforts and big thanks to Nogrip team for giving us this chance to contribute this great place.

With 100,000+ members, nobody expected every member to share the same taste and/or agree with the arguments of the people who chose the winners

And I really like the rotation thing, it's awesome.

Maybe make this a yearly competition to keep the site's look even fresher?

My congratulations to the winners - the rotation idea is a very good one given the amount of entrants). Funnily enough you have mostly selected the ones I thought would be chosen and they do work well.
Not, as well as mine of course, but that's your loss (serious tongue in cheek moment folks )
Well done to everyone, it's the taking part that counts ain't it

Congratulations to all the winners ! These are some very impessive designs. The rotation idea is brilliant.

Although I will see all the winners' banners sooner or later at my visits here, I'd really like to see the winning banners all on one page. Just to get an overview and I also think it would be a nice way to celebrate the winners.

I am sooooo pleased to have been fortunate enough to have one of my designs (the helmets) chosen to grace the pages of this marvellous site. Congratulations to those who were equally fortunate, and commiserations to those who took part but were not so lucky; hopefully you will at least have had as much fun making your designs as I had making mine.
A big thank you to NoGrip for allowing us this opportunity, but mostly a big thank you to NoGrip for helping turn superb sims into something even greater.

Hey guys by the way - i took the liberty of optimizing the size of all 10 banners (some of them are on the 200KB range - i got them all down to around 50KB each).

Here is the link to download them. http://www.mediafire.com/?gtjvi3todddierj

by the way, since you guys have changed the title banner, you might want to think about changing maybe the font of the site, which is a little too plain right now, and maybe a better color scheme

so far I love all of the banners that I have seen and the fact that they are floating and each page has a different banner every time you click to a different page. I think that is a killer concept you should keep it this way.

Everybody wins.........smoking job everybody.

I tihnk the next time the banner(s) is to be updated, it would be cool to be able to pick from a list of banners, or to upload a banner form your computer. similar to choosing your avatar, but only you can the banner you have chosen. it would make the site more personal to each member.

can VB support things like this?

I imagine I can safely say that all who found the time to create and submit a banner, whether lucky enough to win or not, feel a certain pride and ownership in their work.

As you pointed out, some of the entries were pushing 200kb, however I would remind you that we were not asked to submit optimized entries (and that of the ten winners, only three files were larger than your own). We were asked to keep high quality originals of our work, which I imagine everyone has done. I also imagine that we are all capable of optimizing our own work if requested to do so (and thereby optimizing the original rather than a jpeg copy).

Having said that, I would like to emphasize that I mean you no offence, just as I'm sure you intended no offence by taking and optimizing all of the winning entries. I would also say that you have done a pretty good job of reducing file sizes and if the powers that be decide to use them then so be it (really, it's ok). However, I personally would feel less pride in my work and that it wasn't 100% my own effort knowing that someone else had a hand in the finished product.

jesus.. chill out dude.. i was just trying to help.

the banners i optimized have not been modified in any way other than reducing its size while keeping their quality as high as possible. this in an attempt to help nogrip and reduce their bandwidth consumption.

since we were not asked to optimize our banners i submited a rather heavy graphic to avoid compression artifacts. since i was optimizing my entry i thought there was no harm done if i went a step further and optimized all of them. i didnt modify your design in any way whatsoever... again, just trying to help :/

It was a good idea, and thank you, because if I need to in the future I can save time by using this instead of optimizing it myself , but I think I'd like NoGrip to keep the higher-quality ones (I made mine as a PNG)

Same here ~ CS4.
Photoshop must be the only program that has been on my computer constantly (in one version or another) for the last 15 years or so (since version 2 or 3 I think) ~ even before Geoff Crammond got me hooked on racing sims!.
Anybody tried CS5 and consider it worth the upgrade?
