I just threw away my GTL box, and kept only the cds along with the codes. Too bad for me. However, if I go to RaceRoom and buy GT Legends again, would it work on Windows 7 64bit and would it come without starforce?
I tried downloading the demo they have there and it didn't work because starforce was still there.

The download is indeed without StarForce, it's exactly what you would get if you traded in your DVD.

I would send them an email first and ask if they are willing to let you trade in the DVD anyway - I can't imagine them being so strict that the box *has* to be there...

I downloaded the new version from Raceroom and installed but can't get the thing working. Everytime I try to start the game the window pops up asking me to set video card/frame rate etc. Any chance someone can post a blow by blow installation guide, so I can check where I am going wrong, or suggest what the problem is. It'll have to be a beginner's guide as I am not very computer literate. Thanks.

What are your system specs, especially the Windows version? I suspect that you don't have administrator rights so the game cannot store its settings. Try re-installing the game, first uninstall the game and then run the game's set-up by right-clicking on the file and select 'Run as Administrator'.

If after that it still gives the same problem, try to run the game itself as Administrator by right-clicking on the desktop icon and select 'Run as Administrator'.

Exactly, you have to run settings and exe as administrator. Works perfect on w7 64.

Either run as administrator, or turn off UAC

Thanks Redi, I sent the picture of my CD's along with the serial numbers and got the activation key.

GTL is still such a fine simulator.

Is this the only option to get GTL running under Windows 7, or can I use the "Starforce update" method that I used with Vista?

Remember also that they recommend NOT running it under Program Files or Program Files(x86)...instead, they say to install it to any other non-system folder.

GT Legends was not originally made for use with Windows Vista or Windows 7, but by following these few simple guidelines, you should be ensured a smooth installation even on these operating systems.

- Make sure your DirectX is up to date (Check your version here: http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/directx/ )

- Make sure your graphic card drivers are up to date. (Check with your graphics card supplier)

- Install the game by starting the installer as an administrator
(Right click the [setup.exe] and select "run as administrator")

- Install the game outside of any Windows folder (ex: "Programme files" folder). For example, using a "Games" directory in C:\ can solve a lot of potential issues.

- Always run the shortcuts (all of them) as an administrator
(Right click, and select "Run as Administrator")

- Run the game .exe in Windows XP SP2 or SP3 compatibility mode
(Right click, go to properties and then click the tab "Compatibility". Select the desired compatibility mode and validate your changes)

OK, with respect to the RaceRoom download option......is the Starforce code the DVD key that is displayed on my DVD? The online multiplayer code is on the back of the manual.

If you're getting the free download and supplied all the required information, usually within a day you'll have the key. (Make sure your photo uploaded, they won't email you to let you know it didn't, and the upload isn't intuitive - you must click "add another" before "send".)

BTW, not only is starfarce gone, so is the file encryption. I installed this in Vista alongside my original (hacked and patched) GTL and it's running flawlessly; am halfway through the cup challenges, added upgraded sounds and several tracks, will soon be installing mods.

Downloaded tracks and mods DO work on this digital copy, right? I'm looking into it but I'm not that tech-smart so I don't know.

Trying to follow the instructions to get my Windows 7 copy of GTL but each time I try to upload the photo (orginal disks , box and note) I get an error screen suggesting file is too big, but it's only a 151k .jpg file. I've submitted another ticket asking why but any got any ideas meanwhile pls?

Did you try reducing the file size by reducing the image resolution or increasing the JPEG compression?

This worked great. I had an original version of GT Legends on CD and the one that cam eon DVD with my GTR 2 and now I have 2 keys and the downloaded product. I did not have all of the required documentation so I provided a brief explanation of what I had along with my picture and the next business day I had a reply from The Race Room.

Out of curiosity I ran the W7 advisor on my Vista system, after an eternity (during which it probably sent Bill Gates everything but my shoe size) it produced an interesting report.

It had no problem with the likes of Morrowind, NOLF, FS9, Nascar 2003, GTR2, RBR, even ancient GPL ...but it gave a big red X to both installs of GTL (original, heavily hacked; and downloaded version), claiming they were incompatible with W7 and should be uninstalled.

Since I know many are running GTL in W7, just what the heck is Micro$oft's issue here?

I'm guessing that it has something to do with the Starforce crapware issue...the coding changed to something that Vista can't recognize. Maybe. Or not.

That's just it - one version has the coding, the other doesn't, and the advisor can't figure out which one is 'good.' I could be way off on this, but I think I remember reading about something similar when the 7 adviser was still new'ish.; when presented with two somewhat different versions of the same program, it'll get confused and try to vote both versions off the island (or hard drive, in this case).

I am a new member. I have the DTM Race driver3 for some years. It is a great game with many cars and tracks: But I don't like the primitive cockpits. I also have Colin McRae Dirt2 with its famous graphics. But the cars I most admire are the classical GTs from the 60ths and 70th. So I was looking for a game with such cars. Reading ratings I came to GT-Legends. But I realized that this is not the newest game and it is not made for my Windows7 system. But yesterday I have bought the updated GTL-Download version from this site. I have installed it, as I was informed, not in Windows prgram files but in my game directory it with a right mouseclick as administrator. Starting the game also as admin with a right mouseclick on the icon, the game immideatly started. Except some little sound problems at the beginning, now the game runs perfectly without any problems. I love the cars with their great cockpits and sounds. Some textures I did not like but in the meantime I have new skins from this site. I installed also Le Mans from the 60th and the very best racetrack of the world: the Nuerburgring Nordschleife. You should know that I am a German and sometime I was at the Nuerburgring. Often the ring is open for the public and I drove in the 80th with my former coupe Toyota Celica Liftback or few years ago with my Hyunday Coupe some rounds on the track. It is a great fun. The track as not easy but I have reached a average speed of 120 or a maximum speed of 190 Km/h at the only long straight line heading the castle. Thanks to that guys, who made that great racetrack for GTL. The road seems a little narrow, so I have reached after 2 rounds with a powerful BMW CSL only the average of 120 km/h. I think I'll need more training. Anyway, I love the game. I am afraid it will make me adics.
Thanks also to that guys who made the skins.

Question Everything runs perfect with Windows7, except the AddOn Opel GT

Oh yes, I believe you! In the meantime I have some more new cars downloaded and I have tested a few new tracks, like Monaco. I have been allready at the Monte Carlo Formula 1 event and I confirm, that the track in the game looks like the real City.
I love the game allready, the cars with its sounds and the very nice race tracks. The only problem I have is to run the Opel GT from Oliver/Team CC(kart1803). Maybe it is not compatible with Windows7.
By the way: How I can upload an players Icon? (like you have the hybrid-Porsche)

After purchasing the "old" Viva-Media GT Legends from Amazon, I submitted a ticket to Race Room to get the download for Windows 7 four days ago. I still don't have an answer. The help desk wanted the on-line codes but there aren't any listed anywhere in the game sent by Amazon. Apparently they stop putting the codes in the brochure that comes with the game after the original on-line service ended. The game also doesn't work off-line in Windows 7. The instructions for loading it as an administrator don't work. In fact, I had to restore my whole computer because the game corrupted the start up files. I will now be asking for a refund. I guess I should have bought the download from Race Room since it is only a little bit more than the Amazon version. I have to say, I don't like the confusion with this whole thing, looks like bait and switch to force the desperate to pay for a workable download sent in a reasonable amount of time. Race Room should know that the newer productions of GT Legends don't have the on-line codes and Race Room shouldn't be asking for them. Why not just ask for a receipt? I guess I'll just stick with GTR Evolution on steam. I have already loaded the GT Legends cars to GTR Evo (same as Race 07 on steam) through a patch available on another site. I have now wasted hours, just as I did in the old days, trying to get a functional TR4.

Unfortunately the original disk version still contains starforce - the version that is not supported by windows 7. Your best option is to try to get a refund from Amazon as the product is not fit for purpose. And buy a copy from Race Room that does not contain starforce.

The alternate solution to getting the original disk version working in Win7 is a different story - and one I can't post about anymore.

I installed over the top of my original GTL. Runs perfect.

Looks like I can safely delete audio.dat. Other files look simply decoded / replaced.

am I correct here? ( would save 250mb of space )

Interestingly, the cars and tracks .gtl files are still encrypted, while the physics and .car are decoded

Hi all,
I'm playing GTR 2, and want to get the PnG V2 mod, but obviously i need a copy of GT Legends in order to install the PnG V2 mod.

GameSeek say they have a copy of GT Legends, and seems bit of a bargin at only .99p, plus shipping (5 quid) to NZ. Call it NZD 10-11 once landed here.
http://www.gameseek.co.uk/pd/PCbjq61...specifications

I am runnning Windows 7 64 bit.

Will just using the GT Legends disk for the PnG mod install force a rebuild or can I just buy it from RaceRoom at the link above, and then does that allow me to image it to a DVD so I can then install the PnG mod for GTR 2?

Not really sure I understand what you mean by "force a rebuild" but using the GTL disk for the P&G mod shouldn't cause any issues. You just need the disk, you don't need to install it.

You'll be okay as long a you don't install GTL, the mod only checks the disc is authentic it doesn't add Starforce. Don't think the digital download version will work but once you've got the retail one you will get the free GTL download. Hope that helps.

I just built a new PC and switched to Win7 not knowing of this isue.
I tried to go to Raceroom and it says "we have closed the community support forums and shop."
Does anyone know of another way to get GTL working on win7?
I dont race online, so as long as I can get it to work stand alone I'm fine.
Can any one please help?

With a legal copy of the original retail DVD - http://www.raceroom.net/helpdesk/kb_...7664-QIPF-8029

Without the original DVD - http://store.steampowered.com/app/44690/

@Tkrau
I went to that site to register and upload the photo of my copies. However when you go to register the link takes you to a news page talking about their "next generation racing platform, RaceRoom Racing Experience" The news page goes on further to say "The help desk will remain open until we close the doors on the .net site for good in Q1 2013" and that you can submit a ticket to the help desk, but to do that you have to be registered, and the register link takes you back to the news link. It's an endless loop with no contact or help.

I noticed that GTL is now available on steam, but there is no info or anyone to ask if this version is working for Win7. While I hate to buy a third version of the game it would be worth it if the problem has been solved.

Has anyone downloaded the Steam version and have it running on Widows7?
Or does anyone have any other ideas on how to get my favorite sim back up and running.
