Default Turning off auto-pit out in novice mode

Is there something in the "PLR" file so you can drive the car out of pit lane in novice mode?

You can do this in the ingame settings, click on the advance settings tab and uncheck the pit lane control.

I guess it's automatic in novice mode. It would be better to switch to the next higher level (forgot what it's called), i think you can still keep most of the help from novice mode.

Why do you need novice mode? I found it annoying to get so much "help"

Open your plr, under Driving Aids find autopit and change it to 0 so it looks like this:

Autopit="0"

I don't remember where GTR2 by default installs (as I have multiple installs in their own folder in C drive.) but if you open mycomputer and go into your main drive where GTR2 is installed, look around until you find the GTR2 root (main) folder. If you've installed mods/tracks you know this one, it's where the gamedata folder is.

Now a bit down from the gamedata folder is the userdata folder.

Open this one (userdata) and look for a folder with your name on it for your profile.

Open that and you will see the plr folder. in my case for instance it says "Den.plr"

Open that file with notepad. Look a couple paragraphs down and you will see the heading:
[ DRIVING AIDS ]

The autopit will be about 8 lines down.

Myself I have all 8 of those lines on "0" as it turns off all the aids crap.

You will also possibly in future modify your ffb settings which are also in the plr. My suggestion is before making changes make a back up. (Copy and paste your pr and put it in a folder somewhere safe.)

And nothing wrong with experimenting because even if you DO forget to backup, just do a second profile in game with a different name and it'll create another plr file and copy and paste from that for default stuff.

Just take your time and remember there is no reason to panic as it can always be fixed.

Cheers!
Den.

aaahhhh crap, not the user thingy again
For some unknown reason my name or folder name is not appearing in the userdata folder, I posted a topic about it for ideas where to find it and still nothing happened, I searched everywhere in my laptop and didn't find anything still. I also even created another profile and nothing showed up again.

I'm running windows 7 and my gtr2 is installed in c/program files x86/sgtr2

NOTE : while installing gtr2 it did not create an auto installation folder so I had to create one myself then installed it in that folder which I called "sgtr2" as "s" refering to SimBin's.
The reason I've installed this way is because I did not want GTR2 to be installed layed out with all the files in the C drive, I wanted all that to be in a folde just like any other software installed.
In another thing, I also have gtr2 installed on an old desktop windows XP in c/program files WITHOUT creating a folder of my choice and my folder name is available in it with all the files too. I don't know if creating a custom folder for the installation affects the userdata stuffs.

So what now? lol .... it's pretty annoying isn't it?

I just backed all my stuff up and dropped it from my backup HDD into my new PC with WIN7 and all worked as before. In my case I keep ALL my sim files together so I can back them up in one click. the main reason also is between GTR2, GTL, race07 (Files but not installs as it's in Steam), FSX, etc etc etc (lol) my simstuff folder is 390 GB so it never went into the x86 folder.

Basically everything is separated. So I have C:/simstuff/GTR2

Then the same for everything else.like GTL is C:/simstuff/GTL

and so on.

And I go from there. my mods, files, work folder etc are all in those according to what sim.

So for GTR2, i have say:

C:/simstuff/GTR2/GTR2mods where I have all my mods in separate folders so I can find them.

And for track zip files as after downloading all this stuff we do it's good to keep it. So tracks are in C:/simstuff//GTR2/tracks/GTR2addontracksrfromNoGrip for tracks from here and again separtate folders for league stuff for online matching reasons.

And so on....lol

So, my actual installs are in C:/simstuff/GTR2/GTR2INSTALLS

In my case I named the install folder 111AAAGTR2INSTALLS so it's at the top. lol

Then each install is in THAT folder so I keep a spare backup "clean" install which is just the base game and a userdata folder and basic mods I put in every install done like the gear mod, etc so it's:

C:/simstuff/GTR2/111AAAGTR2INSTALLS/GTR2spareinstall

then any other installs i make a folder like say "GTR2MAIN" for the main one you'd use and then copy and paste the contents of the clean install into it. If you have an install go bad then say from a mod messing up, you just delete it, copy n paste the clean one again and start over, takes about 5 minutes. Also keep spare plr files or even a backup userdata folder in the installs folder to be handy.

Now for desktop icons, just go into the GTR2 folder you want to have one for and "send" it to desktop. You can now rename the desktop icon to match the install and when you do the same trick for the next one it won't overwrite the first one. See what i mean there?

I hope I didn't overpower you here but if you read it and take your time and even try to rearrrange your own stuff ONE step at a time, you will see how it works.

If you want to give it a try, even do it completely separate to not affect your current stuff. make the folders as you feel comfortable for your own use, then just reinstall from the disk and when you get to the part, "aim" the install to the folder you made. If it adds an extra GTR2 folder, no problem, just cut and paste the contents to the folder YOU made and delete the GTR2 folder the installer made. then make the additional folder and copy n paste as many installs as you need.

And remember, anything important like plr files you like BACK THEM UP! it only takes a few seconds and always update them when you make changes you're happy with so when you make changes you're not happy with or something just plain goes wrong, you just copy your backup, drop it in, overwrite and all is well again.

I also highly recommend the NODSC exe which should be here at Nogrip. Drop it in that first install and after that any copy n pasting will have it. I haven't used my disc in well over a year other then the keys.

I hope this isn't too confusing and might give some ideas. Main thing is HAVE FUN! lol.

Cheers!
Den.

And yes, it takes all night to back up my simstuff folder when I do it! haha.

Well what about if I can just uninstall then reinstall in the drive c, then again if it says to create a folder for the installation, I'll just do like you did "c/simstuffs/gtr2" name it anything of my choice, so by doing that will the userdata stuffs work this time?

Hopefully. I don't get why it did that though but maybe because I just transferred my old install and didn't install from disc.
