Default VLM Le Mans 1991-1996 – Released

It's a huge celebration, this pre-LM Week.
A lot of model cars are on sale, and VLM have made surprise for us too.

Fabulous work!! Looks great and runs really smooth on my elderly machine.

That 1st chicane is really tricky having spent years driving Frank55 2004 version.

Am I the only one who's not really impressed all that much for 5 years of work? The screenshots they posted in 2008 and 2009 were much more detailed then the actual track they released ... and so many features are complete take-overs from their 80's track which are not featured in the real life 90's LM in real life.

I'm dissapointed, their Sebring, 80's LM and Fuji are way better then this...and took much less time to complete.

We don't know how long it took to complete. They started to work on it 5 years ago, yet could work for 1 month on it.
I agree its the weakest VLM track, but still far better than most rf tracks.

I must agree, even though I have not always seen eye to eye with that group, I cannot argue about the quality of their track until now. There are no crowd or announcer sounds, no pit tents during race, the paddock is completely empty, The Bugatti circuit is not complete or included, no ferris wheel, no real track adverts. Five years and this does not look like it took such.

Well I never really thought the bugatti circuit would be included, but indeed the lack of the ferris wheel and the ads (didn't even noticed that yet) is big, knowing it comes from VLM. If it was anyone else who is just learning how to create a track it wouldn't matter. Texture detail is pristine though.

Imo, the first group that worked on this went into trouble with the others of the team, stopped it, made sure nobody could use his/her work, so the next group had to finish it using a lot of recycled stuff from 1979/85, but without the usual quality that we tend to expect from VLM.
Sadly too many people were so anxiously waiting that they don't care about or see all the flaws and mistakes.

They stated that they needed picture reference of the years but barely could fill the gaps, as for the ferris wheel I didn't notice it at all. The surface is the biggest difference, looks like they screwed it somehow with the reflection or something, would be lighter than the 80s version but for most it's overbrightened and not as good as what they did on modern sebring. Dunno why they didn't make a classic sebring as of now altogether. I think they're just fine to drop whatever they feel now for holding on it for such a long time. Hopefully all the videos about the Group C around 83 pays of and we'll be seeing it atleast in parts. What they showed looked exceptionally overwhelming. I feel lucky I never had that much attention for GTX5 now. DRM outclassified it for now, if it wouldn't only be germany. There's so much plenty of Space, IMSA, JSPC, LM, WSC of the time.

looks like a small bug with the tires barrier at chicane (the slow doule ones after the long staright)

they aren't solid

Are you a screenshooter? Because only someone who makes screenshots has the time to look at the details so deeply. When i drove the DRM Celica there i didn't have any time to do that.

Uh, but again guys:

We do not know how long they worked on it.

Just because they started 5 years ago means absolutely nothing. Thats the problem with stopping development, people will always assume the modders worked on it every single day, omg.

No, but I know the place by heart and my work involves french roadsigns, so I don't have to stop to look.

Besides what does it matter, this track isn't up to the standard VLM made for itself and the earlier screenshots they posted were much better then the final track.

@Vince; I didn't say it was the truth, just my thoughts, good to know it's fiction, but it doesn't explain why the screens from 2008/9 looked better. And the fact nothing of news came out in 2010 and 2011 either while you could launch perfect looking tracks like Sebring and Fuji doesn't help either.

If this was anyone else then VLM making a track it would be superb, but because it's VLM their reputation is so skyhigh I can't but feel dissapointed.

You don't have to be. I review video of tracks on you tube, especially on board tape all the time of tracks. This is especially useful when adding adverts. I don't understand why this was not done for this track.

you may think that its not important but when a track has crowd, announcer sounds, signs on the track and even weeds in the right place, even at 175 miles an hour ( and you don't drive top speed on all tracks all the time) it adds ambiance, that's why I add them. I guess I will be doing that for this track. Necteria is right, the screenshots from years ago were far more detailed.

Ermmm ... don't throw stones, please. I remember you made a version of Le Mans with hills on the horizon.

These certainly look like hills to me and I am willing to bet they were there between 1991 and 1996 also.

Hi! Love this track as it was like this variant when I visited in 1995.

However, I'm having a problem with the sky flickering. I've tried all option and cannot stop it. This is the only circuit it occurs on.

Any ideas?

You cant see much at all of the horizon in real life. Only from some parts of the track such as the Dunlop Bridge, Porsche Curves and looking down the Mulsanne straight from Tertre Rouge. The rest of the time the horzon is obscured by trees.
The horizon in VLMs version could do with lowering a bit but its not rediculously high.

Default flickering

You can use this flicker hack for long tracks. Works well for this one.

---FLICKERING FIX (for shadows and misc objects/decals/ etc.)- SAME AS TARGA FLORIO---

in .SCN - ClipPlanes=(0.50, 10000000.0)

In vehicle .CAM file - ClipPlanes=(0.100000, 500.000000) OR ClipPlanes=(0.300000, 500.000000) (to prevent shadow flickering/disappearing in some instances)

For instance, it works on the notoriously flickering Simbin Nordschleife.

Also you can use ClipPlanes=(0.50, 10000000.0) in the track cam file and the undershadows won't flicker in replays as tested on the Simbin Nordschleife.

This also works for that awesome Cannonball Run desert track.
