I get a CTD shortly after leaving the pits and almost reach the start line. The trace says it couldn't open the track .ani file. When I expand the zip file, there is no .ani file. The zip file is 80.0 megs. Am I missing something?

your_HD_name:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\ your_steam_account_name \race 07\GameData\Locations

If you don't already have a GameData\Locations folder, please create it in that directory path.
Instead of Program Files you could have a different name, depends on Operative System and national language.
Paste into Locations folder the CasalmartinoHillclimb folder as it is in the .zip

Sorry for this, but atm I've no idea how it could happens, it requires a bit of investigation. As you know, the .ani file contains the data where marshalls and moving spectators are along a track, but afaik it's not a necessary file to have a track working; infact some of the addons tracks have it, many others not. Original GTR2 sonar25 Casalmartino track don't have it, nor the converted one (surely I've not the tools to make it - except for a very long trial and error manual editing on the file, that it's hard to propose).
Please, can you tell: which Race 07 version have you installed, if you have Race on and/or GTR Evo too, which car you use, and any other info you may think could be useful to try to solve the problem (i.e. mods/addons installed, modified files etc.).

Please, if possible try this experiment too: copy\paste the .ani file from another track into CasalmartinoHillclimb folder and rename it to CasalmartinoHillclimb.ani, then try to load the track again.

Thanks for the track and the suggestion. I copied the Beez.ani file in and renamed it. I still CTD as the car (I've tried three different ones) reaches the start line. However. the trace note that it couldn't open the ani file has been removed. Here's my trace file in case it helps.

To answer your other questions, I have both Race07 and Evo installed and have tried a Mini, an SR3 and a GTC-65 Lotus. I have a map plugin installed and I noticed that, when the map is initially dislayed while still in the pit, that the map rotates slightly before being oriented correctly. Maybe that always happens; I haven't noticed on other tracks but the map rotates correctly when I leave the pit and turn onto the track

@ GTR2man

I've seen in my trace log file that I have the same message about .ani (but no idea why, since as I've already written it's not a necessary file, maybe a track maker can give us the answer), but never had a CTD with this track, so still no idea how to solve your problem. I've tried to put in CasalmartinoHillclimb folder a fictional .ani file (i.e. as the one Simbin use for their official Alps Hillclimb), of course the message in the trace disappear, but I'm pretty sure that your problem should not be due to something missing in the track files, otherwise you should have the CTD during the loading process. Also surely don't depends on the car used (as you have experiment). I've tried the track with Race 07, Race On, GTR Evo, no probs.

Sorry in advance if it's a stupid question, but what happens if you try with another hillclimb track? It works or not?

About the map plugin I don't know, but if it's possible please give a try disabling it, who knows...

Thanks for the reply. It’s not a stupid suggestion. In cases like this, we have to try anything but I can drive Katzenberg, BergRennen and PikesPeak. I tried your CasalmartinoHillclimb in a race. I let two AI cars pass the start line so I tried and it crashed.

I spent a couple hours trying to turn off the map plugin but couldn’t figure out how nor could I find the plugin files to install it. Finally, I saw in the GTR Evo manual that the map display is part of the HUD. (Makes my face red)

I tried downloading the rar file again but that crashed also. I even tried putting your file in the addons\gtr evolution\gamedata etc folder with the same CTD.

I can drive the GTR2 version of CasalmartinoHillclimb. Don't spend more time worrying about this. I can always drive GTR2 and Power and Glory. Thanks for your help.

Well, I initialy tried this track in my off-line GTR Evo and it worked once with a sr4-190 in time attack........it started me off at the finish (or slightly past), so i turned round and drove down to the start, 180'd, lined up on the start, launched..... and it crashed!
I've just got done testing it in my Steam/on-line Race07 with all the add-ons and its worked fine with a dozen cars in both Time Attack and Practice / solo running (i do hill climbs solo).
VERY nice graphics, a bit 'blink and you'll miss it' unless you take it VERY easy.

Probably due to the fact that offline install it's not patched to work with hillclimb mode.

I love Hillclimbs! Thank you for this!

BTW; I have not tied this track out yet, but does it work in GTR Evo ?
As I can understand reading here, people do have some trouble with the track (!?)

Any suggestions from people, before running into 'installing trouble?' Don't like to reinvent the wheel, so to speak!

With respect to posts 9, 16, 17 and 19, I have only the offline updates installed to Race07. The hillclimb tracks I'm able to run do not start timing until reaching the end of the track. Versions of Casalmartino for GTL and GTR2 start timing at the start line. Maybe this is the cause of the CTD when crossing the start line in Race07 - the offline version doesn't handle that.

*note
All the other hill climb tracks ive d/l'd work fine in my GTREvo off-line.
I havent run the Pike's tracks in a while as graphicly they dont cut mustard - not a complaint,I have NO idea how to create tracks and being new to PC driving sims it might be a while till i pluck up the courage to have a go.
Le Col du Joux Plane works only in practice mode (and in both my installs) as is mentioned in the creator/posters notes.
I will be getting the GTRE pack for my R 07 next week, so i'll be sure to post an update

Ok, maybe finally we have found the problem. I forgot to mention in the readme (sorry!) that this track works proper ONLY with the online install via Steam platform, because Race 07 need to be patched to latest version, which is supposed to support correctly a proper hillclimb mode. Afaik, most (for not saying all) of the other hillclimb tracks released by modders are also conversions from other gmotor2 engine-based sims (like Casalmartino is), but use a fictional hillclimb mode in time trial, not the proper one supported by Race 07 series, as Casalmartino should do (in my intention, or at least I worked on the files to do so).

So my humble suggestion to offline users - like me - is to do the so-called online install via Steam (no matter if you have the DVD-rom boxed version, like me), and patch the game to latest version available (not possible for offline install). After that you can always start the game in Steam offline mode, no need of more internet connection to play.

It's easy to check and to update.

The program version is reported in the main menu screen (at the bottom-right or bottom-left in the latest releases) - i.e 1.2.1.4.
In order to have a proper ingame hillclimb mode enabled, the program needs to be patched at least to ver. 1.2.1.9. To do so, simply launch the game via Steam when you are online (with an activated internet connection, I mean), the game should be updated automatically (otherwise check and enable the proper option in the Steam menu).
If you have installed the game offline, you cannot update it to latest version, so there's no hillclimb mode. In this case there's a workaround that could be applied (imply editing a file or two), so you can drive the track in test mode; if you need that I may try to explain it later, but is much better to install and update the game from Steam platform.

I'm interested in the off-line workaround if you have the time to explain it.

Don't worry mate, there's no problem
It's quite easy to explain and to do, but as I've said it's only a warkaround, so some compromises are inevitables. I've replicated this process on my install and it works, but as I've already explained I have the game patched to latest version (1.2.10), so I'm not completely sure if it's works for all versions or not.

First of all, go into your GameData\Locations\CasalmartinoHillclimb folder and backup this files:

- CasalmartinoHillclimb.aiw
- CasalmartinoHillclimb.trk

Open CasalmartinoHillclimb.aiw with a text editor (i.e. WordPad) and add this lines(usually they are located after [TELEPORT] section and before [PITS] section):

[TIMEATTACK]
Pos=(33.5148,-24.8172,-329.278)
Ori=(0,2.998,0)

Save and exit.

Now open CasalmartinoHillclimb.trk (also with a text editor), using "search in the document" find this lines:

Instance=xhcfinish
{
Render=False
Change=False
MeshFile=wall71_s0.gmt CollTarget=True HATTarget=False ShadowReceiver=False
Response=VEHICLE,TIMING
Response=VEHICLE,SECTOR
}

Comment out them (insert // before each line), or simply delete them. Leave the rest of the document untouched. Save and exit.

Launch the game and try Time Attack mode. You should start with the car floating a bit in the air (sorry for this), then you take the control immediatly before the starting line. Drive till the finish line, then brake to stop the car and esc to return to pit menu page, then you can start a new lap if you want to. There are no intermediate times.
If something it's not clear, or goes wrong, feel free to ask more; I'll try to help, if I'm able to.

That said I don't know you, and for what I can remember I've never encountered you on this site/forum before today, nor on other sites/forums along the web, nor in real life; moreover, I've made the registration on this site before you, so anyone can take it's own conclusions. hahaha, google please, that's all!

In fact, I'm very original too... my name is Lewis Hamilton... congratulations.
Thank you very much for your positive comment about the track, and for the useful technical explanation too; I'll surely take it in account for the next release.

I want to say thanks also for your precious and large contribution to Race 07 community.

Moreover, it's always a great plesure for me to talk with people so kind and gentle like you are, and also with good manners and great respect for other persons.

Surely all the community is really proud and happy with you, like your mum is.

A slow, tricky (at least with F3000 cars) and nice hillclimb, thank you and keep up the good work!

Many thanks to you and to all the people who downloaded and appreciate this track (at least I hope so), but don't forget I've only made the conversion, we all have to give a big thanks to Sonar25 who made this beautiful track from scratch.

Mmmmm... i guess you're right, so thanks to both Sonar25 and you for this track. For some strage reason, RACE07, the only sim to have a specific hillclimb mode, doesn't have manytracks dedicated to this discipline
