AGAIN seems like just 6 (mostly reused) 3-5min stages pr. country, static weather, no night stages, no proper ditches etc etc..
+ let me guess.. no clutch for you !! :p

why not alternate the wrc license btw codemasters, milestone ( or a new contender )every year or so, instead of this throwup every year ?
-best voted demo = next year wrc lic

Oh wow how much they have upgraded since least year! Ford have new livery, lots of private teams have disappeared since last season few drivers have changed team, and box have number 3 instead of 2. Definitely worth of buying if already owning the both last ones (NOT!!!!).

Dunno why but WRC licence seems to end always to companies which release 99% same game every year.. Sony was doing exactly same for 5 years till they realized no one dumb enough to buy their game anymore.

Agreed. I guess they do that In order to avoid the cost of presenting new stages every year. To me, new stages for every sequel Is the most Important thing the series should have.

Actually after thinking about it having mostly same stages every year would even make sense IF they had real stages as they were saying before first game (Sony did same btw), but same fictional über-wide sprint stages in every game doesnt really make any sense.

It's still to early to judge WRC3, but from what they've announced so far it looks like a definitive improvement from last years game.

Codemasters doesn't need a license to make a rally game, and the only thing they've done with rally in Dirt are very few and very short stages. I doubt they'll release an yearly game if they buy the license, they would mix Dirt with the licensed stuff and that's it mostly.

If I'm not mistaken the license covers the use of the WRC brand, the teams and their drivers, other games can approach the teams for their brands, but not their drivers. The rallies and stages are free to be used by anyone, you can't license geography, if no new game has proper stages is not because of lack of licensing, but Milestone should definitely stop reusing sectors.

They can keep the old stages. Game with 60 stages sells better then one with 10. That's no issue IMHO but there must be of course some really good stages. And if 10 km is too long for some then make it 2 seperate stages so you get 3 stages in the end (+ reverse it's even 6!) . If things are good they can be reused.

WRC 3 - Teaser trailer

Remember that requesting hard core features makes the game very difficult to sell.

People keep wishing that Codemasters buys the license, and don't understand that they don't need the license, they're just not interested in a rally game, they have more than they need with Dirt. They will only disappoint us more.

Dynamic weather is ridiculous, even with real life length stages. They should make different weather for the same stages and randomize them, dry, wet, raining/snowing.

The moderators could change the title of the forum, WRC 2010? Milestone WRC series would be more appropriate.

That's right I'd focus on things that attract all audiences. Like as I said long stages but with also short layouts available. In terms of physics, if it would be full sim, add ABS optionally (would have helped RBR newbies, as braking is really hard to master)

But they already made the championship advance with more stages per event optionally. That's a good idea. I'd even do a Sega Rally like mode with 5 stages through all countries.

Yes, changing weather for 10 minute long stages is, I dunno. You can't spend resources on everything! Although even a precalculated weather on a stage from light rain to sunny would be awesome...

So I agree still... the basics for "Hardcore" should also be there.

DiRT3 had some real WRC, rallycross, etc.. drivers and both 2010 WRC factory teams, Monster World Rally team,.. And also 2011 Ford and Mini including some real drivers.

That was first time since Colin McRae Rally 3 when they had any real WRC liveries in the game. In CMR2 they had lots of real WRC teams, but no real drivers and in CMR1 they had even real drivers without having official WRC licence.

They don't need official licence to make proper rally game but they are sure interested to do one and that's why they have parted rallying and bumper cars partymode as 2 separate games to please both audiences (rally fans and ps3 party gamers).

I was aiming at the stages, that they could've done more with the stages without the need of a license. Codemasters rally stages are 1m-2m long, and there are maybe 10 different. Is that what people want but with all liveries and names?

On the other things in Rally world currently there's

gRally http://grally.net/

Interview with one of the gRally team from december 2011 http://issuu.com/autosimsportmediall...sport_vol6num1 (Page 44)

and RallySim http://rallysim.net/

Both are still in very early stages but there are few pics and videos showing progress. We will see

But I think in case of WRC 3 they just have to decide very early what they can put into the game with yearly releases. At least their stages aren't just 1 m long!

Thanks for the information, everyone.
I also agree with all points commented above.

One disappointing thing about recent Milestone's titles is they don't seem to make effective use of their developed technologies.
For example, Milestone developed "Evolving Track System" for "SBK X" first.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_WVvhSRmyQ

But they didn't use this technology in WRC series.
The same about "Rewind System" of "WRC 2". They didn't use it in "SBK Generations".

"Evolving Track System" seems to have a potential to be a great feature for WRC series to make each SS more replayable.
And also, Milestone developed several nice techs for "MUD FIM Motocross World Championship" too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=R-y3ogJhze8

I hope they will use these techs effectively for "WRC 3" and make the title better

New Interview! Doesn't add much to those already know...Maybe a couple more words
about the refreshed career mode, which probably differ from the previous ones.

Ι agree-Maybe some don't like the Idea of a career enriched with skills challenges but I think It will be a refreshed element In the new game, as the format of the previous career mode In WRC2010 and WRC2 was quite boring, racing the same stages again and again on different cars. Anyway, he official rally calendar will still be there, for the pure rally feeling!

p.s. Don't worry though-We won't see anything like Codemasters DiRT3 modes (gate crasher, cats n' mouse, cardboard alliens, Infected cars e.t.c.)

Agreed. If we'll be able to enjoy "Pure Rally Feeling" (really nice words, Luke), it would be really great !

To the Topic.
I've seen a few impressions of WRC 3 and I've big hopes for this game.
Especially that they announced 7 brand-new routes for rallyes. But on the other hand side it's a bit disappointed for me is that the Milestone Lead-Designer said, that the stages have a max. 10km length. He also said that the graphical impression and detail of a "Shorter Stage" is more important than a 30-40km stage with low detail and only roads and trees. I also hope that the graphics quality is as good as on the screenshots and nothing of a "Screen-Show".
But I will try to ask Milestone via E-Mail which Rallyes exactly the mean with the 7 new Routes and if the Super-Special-Stages are also reworked.

Stay updated.

New footage from the presentation during the Acropolis rally 2012:
You can clearly hear the new blow-off valve sound @ 0:51
Also the article reports, cars get damages, when driving off road! That will give an end to cheating I guess...

Oh no. I was really hoping Milestone will provide a real simulator this time, or at least bring more simulation that former games. Looking at the video I have to say that Richard Burns Rally will probably remain the king of rally sims for a long long time.

I hope that all the new content will prove good enough.

Car's physics please me a lot. It's very obvious, car now reacts more natural on asphalt and doesn't have that 'Ken Block drifting -all-the-time' behaviour.

Yep, he's just forcing it with high wheel (or pad) lock / input. Short wheelbase, medium - low-ish (it's current WRC after all) power and center lock then helps through the corner. Still I'd like to see a lap by a pro or at least very good driver. Graphics look good considering many stages 5 - 10 km, good colors and view into distance. Sound mhh...

Alan's review Is much more enthousiastic, compared to his previous ones for WRC2010 & WRC2.
He has some hard times while driving ( though he Is a very experienced gamer) and that shows that the difficulty level In car's handling, has been raised!
One of his comments :'...WRC3 Is much more challenging than DiRT3, regarding car's behaviour on different surfaces...' says It all!
I noticed he can't be In high speeds all the time and that shows the new game will demand more trechnical driving than...just speed! Yes, the co-drivers sounds like a real person now and there Is a tension In his voice while calling out the pacenotes, which gives a real sense of a co-driver. Stages shown have all the characteristics of real rally stages (narrow, twisty, with many changes of surface surrounded by a detailed enviroment, which Isn't as 'empty' as In the previous games.)

Based on what seen so far, I think WRC3 will be returning the series back to their traditional roots!
