Hiya
Does anyone know what the clunking noise is when I change up/down in rFactor. ![]() It sounds like a badly recorded drum machine sample and doesn't happen every single time (maybe 85% of the time), so I've looked at backfires etc. but still can't get a handle on it to shut it off/turn it down. It reminds me of an old Le Mans game (now in the bin) which had backfire sounds out of proportion to the soundset of the rest of the game. I drive from within the vehicle, and this sound is the only thing that distracts from an otherwise very fulfilling experience. I've tried all the settings and looked at the game's text-based files, but no clues ![]() Any ideas on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Big Tam

Seems you're using Grinding Tranny mod (or HistorX 1.9 -1.95).
It is the sound of bad gear change, sort of grind. But the default sound is pretty bad, I have to agree. I've made a better one ![]() Look here for the file and for the instruction: http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=34485 |

Many mods also use the shift up/down sounds. Such as:
// BACKFIRE & SHIFT SOUNDS (INSIDE) VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_1=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_2=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_3=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_4=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav // used ??? VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_1=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shif t_in.wav VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_2=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shif t_in.wav VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_3=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shif t_in.wav VS_INSIDE_BACKFIRE_1=Rhez\BF1_in.wav VS_INSIDE_BACKFIRE_2=Rhez\BF1_rumble_short_in.wav VS_INSIDE_BACKFIRE_3=Rhez\BF1_rumble_long_in.wav // BACKFIRE & SHIFT SOUNDS (OUTSIDE) VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_UP_1=Rhez\gear1_shiftup_ex.wav VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_UP_2=Rhez\gear2_shiftup_ex.wav VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_UP_3=Rhez\gear2_shiftup_ex.wav VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_1=Rhez\gear1_shiftdown_ex.wa v VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_2=Rhez\gear2_shiftdown_ex.wa v VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_3=Rhez\gear2_shiftdown_ex.wa v VS_OUTSIDE_BACKFIRE_1=Rhez\BF3_ex.wav VS_OUTSIDE_BACKFIRE_2=Rhez\BF2_rumble_short_ex.wav VS_OUTSIDE_BACKFIRE_3=Rhez\BF2_rumble_long_ex.wav If the issue isn't the grinding tranny mod you might try commenting out the shift sounds by placing // at the beginning of the line in the sfx file. Like: // BACKFIRE & SHIFT SOUNDS (INSIDE) //VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_1=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav //VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_2=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav //VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_3=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav //VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_UP_4=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shift_ in.wav // used ??? //VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_1=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shif t_in.wav //VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_2=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shif t_in.wav //VS_INSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_3=57HillV8Engine\57Hill3_shif t_in.wav VS_INSIDE_BACKFIRE_1=Rhez\BF1_in.wav VS_INSIDE_BACKFIRE_2=Rhez\BF1_rumble_short_in.wav VS_INSIDE_BACKFIRE_3=Rhez\BF1_rumble_long_in.wav // BACKFIRE & SHIFT SOUNDS (OUTSIDE) //VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_UP_1=Rhez\gear1_shiftup_ex.wav //VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_UP_2=Rhez\gear2_shiftup_ex.wav //VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_UP_3=Rhez\gear2_shiftup_ex.wav //VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_1=Rhez\gear1_shiftdown_ex.wa v //VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_2=Rhez\gear2_shiftdown_ex.wa v //VS_OUTSIDE_SHIFT_DOWN_3=Rhez\gear2_shiftdown_ex.wa v VS_OUTSIDE_BACKFIRE_1=Rhez\BF3_ex.wav VS_OUTSIDE_BACKFIRE_2=Rhez\BF2_rumble_short_ex.wav VS_OUTSIDE_BACKFIRE_3=Rhez\BF2_rumble_long_ex.wav That should stop any sounds due to shifting but you'd need to alter every sfx file...if that turned out to be the source. Same would apply to backfire. |

Great big thanks for all this - gives me a clue where to start. I was starting to think there was a secret 'Simmons Snare Drum' dude riding along with me in-car...
