alt, tab+delete, start task manager and shut the nvidia application/processes down.

Then try extracting the nvidia driver to a temp folder yourself
ie: right click extract here with winrar and Run the setup from that folder.

I assuming you uninstalled old driver and rebooted first.

BTW NEVER use windows update or Geforce update to ever install new drivers
you are better off doing yourself.

DO the MANUAL SEARCH

Took a while to shut it down, even in task manager, window kept popping up telling me it couldn't shut Nvidia updater ??
Had to D/L a new version of the update, the previous one must have been corrupted ??

If you cant re-boot PC either:

Press the resest button.

Press and hold the Power button for 4 seconds.

Switch off / disconnect Power Supply.

Switch off / disconnect Mains Supply.

Yes always download your drivers manually.

If you do as I said and extract the driver to a temp folder first with winrar you will know it is not corrupt to begin with.

BTW Don't do express installs, use Custom so you can untick driver update, HDmi and 3d vision
content you may not need nor want.

You think nvidia drivers suck.. imo they are much better than ati.
Ati = more power/better hardware, nv = better software.

Edit Lol ignore me, I thought thread name is STUCK

Haha you can't be further from true there.
I'm not ATi fanboy. I'm not AMD fanboy. I'm NEVER fanboy of anything. I ONLY decide based on what currently has better power/price ratio. It occurs to me usually it is ATi but not always, depends on what price range also.

When I was deciding 2 months ago, I could either buy 7850 or GTX 560Ti. 7850 just looked better on paper so I bought it. Before that hd5770 was better than comparable nv (dont remember which right now), and before that x1950gt which was MUCH better than comparable nv (although quite power hungry). Before that I had GF6600GT though and before that some GF4400 and before that GF 2 (I didnt choose that one though as I was like 10 years old lol).

Btw yes 690 is the most powerful card in the world. I totally don't see how thats relevant, though. 690 is totally unrelated to mainstream cards. Id rather eat that kind of money than to spend it on a gpu.
When I said "more power", I meant more power for price.

As for cpu, I have AMD quadcore not because I would think its better, but because I have old motherboard and wanted to make reasonable upgrade without buying everything new. Next setup will be intel most probably. Also it will probably be DDR4 already, hah, because I cant afford to upgrade too often

Im curious what will you tell me on this, you always seem to want to have the last word DD :p

lol

GTX670 and GTX660Ti are as good a bang for buck as both the 7950 and 7970.
