Well, I'm not that good at finding something rare and exclusive that is
hard to guess, but I'll give it a try.

This is Maurice "Maus" Gatsonides' Gatso 1500 Sport a.k.a. "Platje" based on a Fiat.
Maurice, a Dutchman, was a racing driver and inventor, he won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1953 driving a Ford Zephyr. He was also the man who invented the speed camera, the Gatsometer, making him instantly very impopular. The word "Platje" is not so nice either, it is a pubic hair louse (Pthirus pubis). |

This is one of those rare sports cars that was "going to be" but circumstances forced the maker to grow in another direction. Nearly every clue you could need is in the picture so look carefully and think about what you see. I added the sepia effect to disguise it just a bit more.

I think it is the Cooper T4 from 1947 with a Jowett Bradford engine.

Hmm, not sure, it certainly look like a Cooper but I would have expected the Jowett to have a "flat" configuration engine and the Norton to be a single cylinder, the one in the photo appears to be a vertical twin. So, no idea. Sorry!

@CX650: Cooper it is.
BUT, Ecclesley identified the engine and the type T4 correctly. The one and only Cooper T4 was the prototype. Cooper was going to build the car for the road but the choice of production engines at at time made the power to weight ratio unfavorable. Cooper decided to build open wheel formula cars instead since the demand was strong and the rest is history. Correction: the engine is unspecified in the photo set I used. I found 2 other references to a Triumph twin being installed. I must admit my knowledge of British cycle engines is limited. Ecclesley it is your turn. The photo is at this site:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/8736453...n/photostream/ The John Potts #8 car may presently have a Norton engine but the original is listed at Cooper's site and elsewhere as using a Triumph twin in 1947.

It is the 5.7l Sunbeam Rapier Chevrolet V8 of Martin Kent, built for British Special Saloon racing in the 1970s. The chassis is modified from a Gordon Keeble which Kent rolled in his first race in it & totalled the body. The chassis was saved & the Rapier body fitted as it was a similar wheelbase to the Gordon Keeble. |

I think you have it with the GRAC MT14-B. *************************************** The monster coupe you posted is pretending to be the last of the Humber Super Snipes. A transition vehicle from the pre-chrysler period at Sunbeam. The unofficial story goes that some bright spark figured if a V8 in the Alpine roadster went well, then a bigger one in the Rapier GT would go even better. It is alleged that an ex-Allard Chrysler Hemi 390 was tucked ever so neatly under the bonnet. Since the region normally occupied by the front suspension was completely taken up an alternative system using cables, bell cranks and hairpin valve springs was devised to fit in the remaining cavities surrounding the massive engine. The excess weight and limited under body space required the wheels to be enlarged and offset outboard. In the interest of maintaining the cabin capacity for a 2+2 configuration a similar approach had to be taken at the rear axle as well. Unfortunately the single prototype could not be salvaged after one of the senior staff took it for a post-luncheon drinks run and lost the keys in the pub. It remains parked forlornly at the edge of a large industrial estate: a warning to those who find the afternoon eye-opener too tempting to pass by. ************************************************** *** I suspect the challenge car you posted is actually one of those weird concoctions devised for British Super Touring...err, em, that is, I mean Thunder Saloons. While it wears the body of an Alpine Fastback GT, underneath are wheels, suspension, brakes and other mechanisms derived from a Lola or other mid-engine race chassis. The engine may be found where the rear seat once lived...Or it may be as proposed above: considerably larger than the original 1725 cc, in V8 form and located forward of the driver the as proper 2+2 touring cars should be. Alternatively it is the last gasp ETCC racer of Sunbeam, Rootes et al, probably wearing the ubiquitous Rover/Buick alloy V8 in the usual place. Last edited by spin_doctor; 25 October 12 at 09:36. |

The 1922 Wills Sainte Claire A68 Roadster with dicky/rumble seat.
Although Porsche never admitted it, their Carrera had a dicky seat also. |

An obvious Pininfarina (check out their mid-70s Rolls-Royce Camargue and play spot ten – or possibly fewer – differences), this one’s a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3.

Aha, that would be the imaginatively named Centro Sperimentale Aeronautico di Guidonia, I believe. Although most sources I’ve come across seem to identify the car as a 1937 4CM 1500, you obviously got the right car, Ecclesley.

I think that is a Genetta (sp?) G2 kit car and I know little about them other than it had an aluminum body and rudimentary space frame, used early Porsche/VW 5-bolt wheels and, years ago, my neighbor tried to build one. I got the impression from him back then that they were approaching stupid-rare.

I’d like to thank the Doctor for the concern. I’ve been meaning to reserve the following till April Fools’ Day but who knows if I’m gonna live that long:
GTC082.jpg My question is: what tendency do these two represent? Answer that (to my satisfaction, huh huh) and you’re good to go. Naturally, any details about the models are welcome, but in this case, less essential than the big picture, so to speak. |

It was once said that Bentley made the fastest trucks. I think the photos show a similar taste in covering 2 tons of vehicle with 3 tons of hardware.
