Skippy is a brilliant car once you get it and nowadays it is much easier to "get".
Learn to go quickly in it and it will help you with every Road car at iRacing. You still see some of iRacings fastest drivers in it, the community is second to none. |

Had my first go in the Skippy last night, at a new track to me too.
Certainly different to the MX5, but it's predictable most of the time. The two downhill left handers in the first half of Mosport I really need to sort, feels like I'm driving on ice, think I've had more off's there than in the last month of MX5 racing. Going to go and watch some videos and read some tips before getting back in the car again. And try a couple of Mosport set-ups. Do you normally run a pretty base set up in it? Thanks, |

My impression is that Most fast drivers stick to the same setup, or roughly the same, week after week.
Regarding Mosport, I suck at turn 2, but turn 4 is easy. You should be able to take it flat out without problems. You may wish to shift early to fifth, then just stay on the throttle and sort of hug the inside. |

Not sure where iRacing's base set is now but for saftey you are far better starting with the base set recommended in the Tuning Guide in this thread, it's recommendations get adjusted each season as the NTM develops.
That base should get you close to competitive times, then it is just a case of clicks + and - to suit you. As has been said after a while it doesn't take much to adjust "your" base set for each track. I will say however this Season I have noticed some tracks need more than one click to make them right. http://members.iracing.com/jforum/po...t/1851219.page At Mosport I'm just in the 33's using 18 all around on tyres, 56BB, +4 perch, 7 ARB |

Got a high 32 in races at Mosport. Yea Skip is hard to move away from. |

Thanks for the replies and tips, all helps bring my times down, I still have a very long way to go, still in the 39's, not had much time on my hands recently. Optimal of 38.0 gives me encouragement, just need to string together three good sectors....

Mosport seems simple but is very hard to go fast at, laps and more laps, is the only sure fire solution.

I find it is particularly tricky with a mid engined car due to the undulations. Combine this with someone spinning in front of you on the line and things can get a little hairy.. I don't think I've had so much damage on a car before..
Best I did in the race was a 1:36.165 with damage so hopefully can trim a couple of seconds with more practice. I haven't tweaked the setup yet so need to have a play with that. I keep switching between Mustang and Skip which is probably not a particularly clever combo when I dont have a great deal of time to practice at the minute. |

Another great week in the UK&I Skippy League, racing is intense all the way down the field. For the second week running I had the lowest incident count

The UK&I league really looks like a nicely competitive group. Around 3/4 of the field still on the lead lap looks excellent. That looks like a more successful grouping than sorting splits by iRating gives.

Yep, races are pretty epic and there are a handful of really fast guy's who are also very helpful.
They run a number of Series not just the Skip Barber one I do including some really competitive Oval series too. Generally a great group, now the England & Celtic groups are combined (for now Forum's only but in the future for Club events), we get some great banter and should be quite competitive once the World Championships for clubs come around. |

Just bought the skippy and a few tracks, my first paid content. The car was a bit oversteery but adding a bit of rear stiffness has made it much, much better. Feels like I can really start to push now. I've managed to do 1.40's at Mid Ohio pretty consistently after about half an hour, can see myself having a lot of fun in this car!

See! Look at that. AllanGP helping out, once again, without being asked, just because he wanted to help you out and keep you from getting discouraged. This is what you get from this community. Great guys, trying to spread the love and goodwill. Helping others when they can, however they can. There are many like that in the Skippy. AllanGP, in particular, I single out as a huge benefactor to the Skippy community, and iRacing in general. That's what I'm talking about. |

Did a race yesterday night, not too bad but I spun out a couple of times that cost me a lot of time. I'm getting a lot more confident with the car, but in the 2 races I've done today I just kept getting unlucky on the first lap. These cars don't like making any wheel to wheel contact at all.

Poor UK&I Skippy race for me this week, got caught up in a first lap melee between 4 & 5, took a tow (big mistake) and was doomed to a poor result from there.

Finally able to take some time for iRacing again. Fired up the Skippy yesterday, as so often before, only to find that, expectedly, I'm struggling. Top speed wasn't that far off, I guess, but consistency and not screwing up was more difficult
![]() Seems we're already in week 12. I might get some races in before season's over, then I will probably be waiting for the Lotus 49 while also preparing for the incredibly awesome ProtoICE cup in the HPD. Not sure I will be able to put the Skippy aside completely, though... |

Never driven Summit Point before but that's a fun track! Can really hang it out around a couple of the corners. Dived right into a race without even seeing the track before and managed to finish 3rd, wasn't so lucky the second race, got in a tangle with someone about halfway through but still managed 5th.
I'm really getting to grips with this car now, can't wait to get a full season with it. |

Summit Point can at times be frustrating, but it kind of suits the Skippy very well! Lots of fun to be had
![]() After some more practice, consistency and being able to do 0x runs seem to be back, but the races haven't gone very well yet. In one race, the leader got some damage, and we later hit when I tried passing him and he lost control. Screwed up both our races. For the next race, suddenly we had company by rather top drivers, and I chose to stay put in fourth place ready to jump when they tangled. Miraculously, they didn't, but they put on a worthy show

Good speed on the podium, there!
I put in 10 races in this comeback week, and while I eventually sort of found my speed and consistency (only one self provoked error, and that race I still won), three of my races were ruined due to car contact. Usually I am quite good at avoiding contact, and I did indeed spot a dive bomber before the dive came, but the three contacts I don't know how I should have anticipated: 1. Leader had severe damage. Out of caution, I stayed behind through the twisty part, and then eventually tried to pass on the following straight. Before I had completed the pass, he lost control and hit me. I keep wondering if he was planning on entering pits and didn't know I was next to him. 2. In a tight pack, with me in 3rd, 2nd place has a moment exiting the last turn and I get a run on him. He quickly moves to cover the inside, so I take the outside. I am slightly ahead approaching the braking zone for T1, but since he hasn't backed off, I go deep and take the outside line. Slowing down more wasn't really an option, since there was another driver 2-3 tenths behind me, and that could have gotten ugly as well. Anyhow, the driver on the inside slightly overshoots the corner, goes into a spin and hits me. In the sharp end of the field, with drivers right behind as well, you kind of have to trust the inside guy to do his job... 3. In yet another tight pack in a high SOF race, with me in 4th, 2nd place makes a move on 1st place in T1, but goes wide. He rejoins the track in the latter part of the turn (known an T2), while 3rd place passes him. I also almost get by. While I am slightly ahead on the straight leading up to T3, I am now on the right, and the rejoined car slightly behind on the left - then he simply moves over and into me, like I wasn't even there. He apologizes and explained he hadn't actually seen me (spotter malfunction as well? Mine announced him, at least). So, with these unfortunate incidents, I ended up losing iR, instead of gaining - and this was the week I had big hopes for finally breaking into 5k after months of being so close One unfortunate race really punishes the rating when you're up high.

According to the forums, and observing some results, it seems the car has become a lot quicker after the new build. Some say the off throttle oversteer is less pronounced as well, but I would have to check that myself to believe it

Hi Kalifen bro, Allan and guys,,,
How are u all?? hahaha... Kalifen you are most right that Iracing secretly improves the sense of speed! I am so so happy now...While we are practising Spec Racer Ford... we are saying this car seems a lot faster now.. in fact its sense of speed had match skip barber.. and now Skip barber sense of speed also improved by alot! Finally you feel excitement on roads and ffb easier to control too.. Well Done Iracing.. Really last night racing and practising srf and Skip was damn fun! I will post this on the other threads regards to build also... Cheers Guys. I wonder why Iracing never mention they improve sense of speed...? |

Seems around a second and a half quicker to me. Did a 2:08.2 without draft yesterday, which is actually faster than Hugo Luis' time from the previous build
![]() Also interesting to observe the new F meter (displaying FFB force). With my FFB settings, the forces were generally low in the Skippy, always in the green, except when "extraordinary" things happened - like putting a wheel kind of awkwardly between track, grass and kerb (for example the exit of T1 at Watkins), and the F meter would spike up to yellow. |

I had to take my FFB down from 22 to 19 to avoid reds but I think I can afford to go a little lower yet.
Car feels more "planted" now just like the feeling in the HPD. |

Wow, just had an epic scrap at the Glen. I got spun out trying to pass someone round the bus stop on lap 1, so right away I'm back in about 15th, then I end up battling for 2nd on the last lap. Brilliant race, even if I had 13 incidents!

Skippy at Watkins Glen *can* be awesome. I had a similar race once (12 to 2nd). However, it can also be a real pain if you find yourself in front of somebody just slightly slower than you - you will never be able to break the draft, meaning they will stay with you all race and have many chances of passing even if they are slower. I lost a victory last week when I made a tiny mistake in the bus chicane on the penultimate lap, followed by defensive driving the next turns, which lead to another tiny mistake (hadn't prepared alternative lines well enough) and position lost. It's part of the game, though, and it is like this is real life as well in similar cars.

Fantastic first race in the UK&I Skip Barber series, Matyhew Mew & I were never less than 1 sec apart the whole race, I let him through half way into the race as I felt he was getting frustrated and might do something silly, better 8th than last;

Had a quite interesting race yesterday. Started from pole, with an almost equally fast driver 2nd, and a generally much faster driver 3rd. 2nd and 3rd battled for a bit over a lap, before the faster driver got by, while the other had a problem. At this point I was 2 seconds ahead. This increased to 2.5 over the next laps, until the faster driver found his rhythm and started closing the gap again. It looked like an intense fight was coming up.
Then two things happened: 1. I got cramps in my right leg, causing modulation of both throttle and brake to be a real pain, and not as smooth as desired. I was starting to plan how to let the other driver by safely when he caught up. 2. The faster driver, not knowing of my problems, had an incident and crashed out after T7. So, for the rest of the race I simply needed to handle the pain and try to be as gentle with the pedals as possible. I did indeed succeed ![]() But this comes as a reminder that I should in fact learn LFB at one point - if for nothing else, then at least for situations like yesterday. |

Well, using my Lotus49 funding, I was torn between the Skip and StarMazda but since I'm still enjoying the Slowstice while learning the Mustang, decided to lump in with the Skip. Seems to have good fields and not as much as a handful as the SRF (but close.)
