The usefulness to most current games is negligible.
It is older sims that benefit so much getting the right amount of model smoothness / no jags with the correct level of sharpness.

why are there no assetto corsa optimal settings in geforce exp yet ? There are optimal settings for nearly every game bar AC . Yet AC has Nvidia logo's all through the game. The last lot of nvidia drivers made the centre of the screen have a heat haze thing happening. I fail to see how that was an improvement.

I've read it somewhere that the latest GPU Nvidia cards show somehow different problems with GTR2: there seems to be some problems with the cards 'over-revving' () and heating up since the drivers doesn't seem to be designed to be used in older games, and so, these can't rationally apply the card resources to the running program (GTR2/GTL).

I've a 980 GTX, and I must confess I did have sometimes some sudden fps drop while steering (the same happened in GTL).

Perhaps you know more on this peculiar matter?

Just a thought, but try UNDER-clocking your memory speeds on the 980. Use one of those utilities designed to speed up your vid-card, but go the other way and reduce the memory settings. May fool the card into not going ballistic.

Umm... well thought Dave. A simple solution to avoid letting the card going 'ballistic' (your observation really gives the idea! ). This is just the straightforward (correct?) conclusion I couldn't jump to.

I'd say that today, it's time for a bit of... ZOTAC experiments (luckily video cards can't melt down when downclocked ).

p.s.: Dave, how come I'm sure you're not surprised if I'm telling you I'm using such a new piece of hardware only to play to the older titles like GTL and GTR2 only?

(sorry folks, but only those belonging to the 'temple of GTL/GTR2' can understand this statement fully )

I don't like the last 2 GeForce driver updates at all.

A few months ago, there was a driver update (don't know which one any more), which totally messed up the Mip Map LOD Bias and nothing could fix it.
Later I found a user created patch, that could fix the problem with changing something in the nvd3dum.dll

So 359.06 brought up the problem, that you can't apply that patch anymore, no matter what you did. But you could still use a patched .dll and get better Mip Maps.

Now with 361.43 you can do nothing any more. No patch, no .dll and Mip Maps look like freakin' crap. If you apply the patched .dll and want to start GTR2, GTL, or rFactor, you get the message that no DirectX 8.1/9.0 video card was found and no game will start at all.

There is nothing you can do to improve that LOD Bias, whether with the driver settings, nor with Nvidia Inspector. Nvidia really seems to not give a damn about the user's problem. This problem has even been discusses in their forums since the start of the issue and nothing was ever done to fix it....

There has been huge discussion about LOD/clamp @Nvidia forums.

I dunno all my sims look fantastic with a GTX970, if anything later gen ones look a tad smoother.

This is latest driver with GTR2 I dunno what people expect, looks okay to me. ?

Somehow this issue doesn't affect all users, but many.

All that flickering and shimmering can be a hard time for your eyes.

Here is my NVi with latest driver mate if it can help anyway.

I will gladly suffer a little texture blurring for no jags

...........and don't forget if you have say a GTX670 - GTX960 you can run DRS 4.0.

4K will take away virtually any jags you can see in GMotor sims and still have enough framerate to drive no problem.

Wow, with these settings it looks so much better.

I already tried to change things with the Inspector several times, but never had this kind of result.

Thank you.

I am sure you can tweak much better for personal preference like the LOD Bias you can adjust if you do not like the slight smudgy look, I mean its hard to notice but it can make things a tad blurry at distance but imho it does not look too unreal, better then super-sharp.

These settings tend to show up circuits with " bad AA"

P.S. Try DRS 4K with those settings at VLM Sebring. ( GTX670 or above should do )

Check fullsize ( 2 clicks ) and " Pick the Jags " .....I Dare Ya !
That was my GTX670 and 100 Cars. lol

I'm using a little smaller resolution, but it looks good to me.

Notice the lattice on the rear bumper, usually it looks totally un-anti-aliased, but it also looks better.

Default AFTERBURNER v4.20

http://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner

Quote:

Version 4.2.0

 Added AMD Fiji graphics processors family support

 Hardware abstraction layer architecture has been revamped to allow implementation of voltage control via direct access to
GPU on-die voltage controllers (e.g. AMD Fiji SMC) in addition to previously supported external voltage controllers connected to GPU via I2C
bus.

*** Please take a note that direct access to AMD SMC from multiple simultaneously running hardware monitoring applications can be unsafe and result in collisions, so similar to I2C access synchronization we introduce global namespace synchronization mutex “Access_ATI_SMC” as SMC access synchronization standard. Other developers are strongly suggested to use it during accessing AMD
GPU SMC in order to provide collision free hardware monitoring

 Added core voltage control for reference design AMD RADEON R9 Fury / Nano series cards with on-die SMC voltage controller

 Added unofficial overclocking support for PowerPlay7 capable graphics cards (AMD Tonga and newer graphics processors family).
Please take a note that unofficial overclocking mode with completely disabled PowerPlay is currently not supported for PowerPlay7
capable hardware

 Added version detection for AMD Radeon Software Crimson edition. Please take a note that new AMD Radeon Software versioning
scheme is not backward compatible so now Catalyst version can be reported improperly if you reinstall older versions of Catalyst
drivers on top of AMD Radeon Software Crimson edition without cleaning the registry up. Until the issue is addressed inside AMD
Radeon Software Crimson edition installer, MSI Afterburner is providing compatibility switch “LegacyDriverDetection” in the
configuration file allowing you to use legacy driver version detection mechanism if you’re rolling back to legacy Catalyst drivers after
AMD Radeon Software Crimson edition drivers

 GPU usage monitoring filtering algorithms, aimed to filter GPU usage monitoring artifacts in AMD ADL API on AMD Sea Islands GPU
family are now disabled by default. Filtering algorithms can still be enabled by power users via configuration file if necessary

 Added core, memory and auxiliary PEXVDD voltage control for custom design MSI GTX980Ti Lightning series graphics cards with
IR3595A+IR3567B voltage regulators

 Added memory and VRM temperature monitoring for custom design MSI GTX980Ti Lightning series graphics cards with NCT7511Y
thermal sensors

 Now SDK includes detailed documentation for third party hardware database format, allowing experienced users to add voltage
control support for custom design non-MSI graphics cards

 Temperature monitoring for AMD Family 10h – 16h micro architecture CPUs is no longer experimental. Now thermal monitoring on
such CPUs is unlocked by default

 Slightly altered VRAM usage monitoring implementation for AMD and Intel graphics cards. Now total resident bytes are being
displayed as VRAM usage instead of total committed bytes, and allocated blocks are no longer being rounded to 1MB boundary per
block when calculating a total value

 Improved skin engine. Added support for altered USF skins obfuscation scheme used in most recent versions of third party
overclocking tools

 Added Brazilian Portuguese localization

 RivaTuner Statistics Server has been upgraded to v6.4.1D

Clamp is not supported as of the latest drivers. NVidia say it is not needed.

It is.

Despite DRS it IS needed for quality reasons. At the base of their reasoning is the idea that everyone will switch to DRS, find out that they need another card and spend more money. If they provided a driver that utilises the proper features of the card, quality and performance would improve and less new cards would be sold.

There have been thousand-long postings about this on the NVidia forums.

Best bet is to use a modded driver from here that has the Clamp feature (and other quality / performance issues) addressed :

It is not drivers.

It was the move to Fermi based GPU

Get your driver pdfs ( download at the bottom of any nvidia driver page )
Read the section : "Limitations in This Release"
Quote:
The following are features that are not currently supported or have limited support in
this driver release:

 Negative LOD Bias Clamp
Negative LOD bias clamp for DirectX applications is not supported on Fermi-based
GPUs and later.
Misleading in a way, could lead one to conclude it does work on certain drivers with Fermi.
It was never supported, full stop.

So basically since GTX580 you have not had Clamp.

With respect I'll take the many threads on the official Nvidia forums over your information.

It's a driver feature that nVidia have switched off.

Hence the modder's ability to switch it on.

Hence the massively increased quality when using a modded driver with the feature turned on.

You'll understand if I don't demonstrate the driving need you have to be 'proven right' on every subject under the sun.

Whatever you say - is correct and we're all grateful and enriched for your input and feedback.

Thanks

wow

lol

I will let the Nvidia documentation do the speaking.

driving need to ................. the old "always , forever , every time and, everything "

lol

example.......
I think rF2 is best sim, I like that I can believe that honestly and without reservation.

I do not care if no one here likes it at all, or what they think is best, it is irrelevant to me, always has been.

Should be to you too.

Have had endless issues with older games like Gtr2 since I installed Win 10 a few weeks back.
Some days it works well other days endless crashes.
Got a GTX970 and downgraded the driver to 353.30 3 days ago and have not had an issue since!
Even picked up 15-20% more fps in Gtr2 and the few dx10 and dx11 games I use has not only worked well but has also run a little better.
Believe is only supports up to gtx 900 series.
