Default My experiences with RF2

I got RF2 about two years ago but never used it much. Thought is was very inconsistent and poorly optimized.

In May I updated rf2 after a long time not using it. Before I really got into it the computer died.
So about two weeks ago I got a reasonable gaming computer put together again. I5-2500k, OC to 4.4ghz 8GB ram and a GTX 970 OC to 1200 Mhz.

Got RF2 installed again with DX11.
Got really good fps ~ 100 fps with everything on high and 4 X DRS or max settings with 2 X DRS. In race I drop res to 1920 X 1080.
First impression on track is this really looks great. It is like the environment is larger than in any other race sim. Like the real world.
Unfortunately some tracks present them self like viewed through a camera lens and not the human eye. A shame as Rf2 does the later better than any other sim I have tried.

First track I got to know was SPA 67. Which is great looking but gets a little boring after a while.
New few tracks I tried I did not like at all. To over exposed with brightness just like AMS. It camouflage the often poor choices of textures.
Also had a hard time finding a car that was any good. I prefer tin tops and all I tried was had poorly physics. Yes I know, drive 50 rounds with the AI to get rubber but really it hardly helps and still you should be able to drive on a green track.

Next finding a Nordschleife track.
First was Nordschleife 0.97 (Ring_Turist 0.97n )from RD. Nice track but textures are fluorescent so really hard to like.
Next was the KSring 0.60a the converted laser scanned from AC. Really liked the track itself but the surroundings are as poor as they are in AC.
Last hope was Nordschleife 2.01
Wow that is the real deal. Desprite there are a few textures, signs mainly, that it overly bright it is for sure the best Nos I have ever tired in any sim and also the best looking!
Alone for that track it is worth getting the RF2.

Now finding a car to race is harder. The historics open wheeler are the only ones I have found that is any good. And they are very good.
I like the endurance mod in Rf1 and in GTR 2 but the Rf2 version isn't up to that standard in the physics yet.
I have to admit I have not tested a lot yet as I think it is only fair to give each track and mod at least an hour or two of testing.
So for now I will stick to RF2 with the historics and GTR2 with GT cars.

I wish Studio-397 would update the older content and publish docs and tools how to update the mods. Then Rf2 would be the best race out there.
vs just having a great potential

Just tried a Nordschleife 2016_V1 believe to be an update to ksring_0.6a And it is pretty good.

Overly bright sounds like you have PP on 5, reduce to 3

Tracks and content not updated I turn PP off all together

You set PP level in Launcher / Settings not game menu

Not sure if we talk about the same? I got pp on low.
Both in config and video config in Launcher.

If I read you correctly, you are looking for a quality GTE/LMP content? If so, URD EGT and PX have stellar physics. I do not race stock content (other than karts and stock cars, and indirectly stock physics is BTCC series), but URD EGT is by far best physics by me. Skins are a bit of a pain, but there are Virtual Rides based somewhere, I believe at RD.

Really hope Enduracers guys will get serious about physics. Fantastic visuals, but physics need work.

Keep in mind that only updated content works nice with Post Processing. Otherwise better to keep it off (don't lose much IMHO anyway).

Didn't do much for me to set pp= none.
The look I would prefer is the colors you see in the virtual mirrors!

I like PP effects at night
Daytime it makes the smiths tacho surrounds in historics look like real chrome

If I rated sims on different 50 points I would give rF2 4/10 for incar mirrors, even GTR2 hi res mirrors are better
While the in-car mirror movement is better then any sim I have from day 1
( ie: left, right, up, down, zoom )

Virtual mirrors as in the 3 up top, they should be banned in all sims lol

rF2 is huge disappoint. This sim had big expectations before release but then...everything went wrong - terrible optimization, pay content and mods, non-friendly UI, weird physics and FFB , bad AI etc. that is why most people leave rfactor and go to other sims

Read my post that is the color scheme we should have!
You are welcome to ban the virtual mirrors from you sim. Doesn't concern anybody else

I believe you was right but it is definitely moving in the right direction.
Newer really warmed up to Rf2 but I do like what I see of progress.
Did RF2 ever had bad Ai?

Some tracks have bad AIW, particularly for historic cars or extra wide cars. What happens is when the grip is low, the AI will drop wheels off the track as they slide wide.

The foundations of rF2 AI are very solid, but mod-makers need to configure their material properly, both tracks & cars, which takes time.

Yes, good point Emery. For example, on some tracks AI has difficulty entering pits without damaging cars. But I think being choosy about content is unavoidable part of playing community driven simulator. If one cherry-picks what's poor in rF2, sure, it's horrible. But same is true for positive cherry picking of good content - leads to great experience.

rF2 was good from day 1 you ask me and it is very easy to find a track has good Ai ............then you stick to them

Expecting every track to be great ai for every car is living in dreamland.

Is every ai in every other sim and track combo perfect .....not by a long shot

For mine the driving experience just runs rings around all other sims I own

Hahahaha. Well, there are some experiences that can eat up a lot of time. Taming the Reynard Mercedes from CART 98 or the Formula Classic around old Spielberg, pre-1995 Imola, Johannesburg or 1990 Silverstone in Stock Car Extreme; Formula Classic in 1988 Hockenheim or Adelaide in AMS; McLaren MP4-4/Porsche 962C/Sauber C9 Sprint at Spa or Lotus 98T in Brands Hatch in Assetto.

Well I am getting more and more impressed with the RF2 experience. Both on flat screen and on VR headset.
Vr works fine even with a less than stellar HDK 2 headset and a GTX 970.
Manage to get my i5 2500k to run stable at 4.7 Ghz which I guess helps.

Found some really nice tracks and spend way too much time on the sim.

In gtr 2 I race against the Ai @ 105 and do ok. Not winning a lot but occasional.
In RF2 the Ai beats me easy. Getting better, but still got a lot of catching up before I can compete.
Would love to see a GTR 2 like mod in Rf2. Those GT3 mods get boring fast.

Glad you're enjoying it

I think one myth about rF2 is that there's not enough content (in fact my biggest problem with this game is that I don't have time to enjoy it all ). There's much than just GT3 mods. What series are you interested in? They're not always easy to find. Yesterday this popped up: https://forum.studio-397.com/index.p...10#post-909409 Not a DTM Classic yet, but close, can't wait to try

Yes there are a lot of content. For now it has been mostly the the historic openwheeler I use.
The stock content in GTL and GTR2 are those series I really like but not complaining at all about the content. Kind of part of the fun to look for and try out mods and cars.

Already got a lot of tracks! Maybe too many to really get good at any of them.
Very impressed with the quality of the best tracks.
Even started to update a track after the RF2 guidelines for dx11. Dounting task but gives a good understandigof the work involved.
Will try the DTM you linked

Good to hear you are enjoying it!
There are several open wheeler series that look like they're getting good care from creators: F1 1988, 1975 and I believe 1967 somewhere. Though I am younger guy so I race F1 2013 by Frenky - fantastic stuff, especially if it starts to rain at some point - unforgettable.

I believe this will get more traction
https://forum.studio-397.com/index.p...a-2-mod.54810/

imo unless someone does all the models from scratch with good polys ( whatever lol ) it would look no better then 1967 in rFactor .....even worse
