Do you feel any advantage in games like RF2 with the 8700's extra cores?

Even if I could how would I know what gives advantage i7 or 6 cores ?

Truth is I have not done any sims yet , I have new simulator and controls I
have not begun to setup properly

Fast ran out of USB headers, even some boards $100 dearer then mine still only have 1 internal USB 2.0 , old days they used to have heaps

But maybe that is because I only from time to time make a manual "restore point" via Acronis.
And ofcourse use 7 where MS does not have access to my puter - at least as long Im not so stupid to connect to their upd site.

@ syhlif32
You will not even get near my 28-29 processes on a goofy Win10 system

I'm getting two more SSDs (small ones, 240GB) on promotion this weekend, so might as well use one to experiment Win10 with latest updates, see what's changed since mid 2016 (which was when I got underwhelmed with it) and try messing around, once again (atempting to disable the bloatware, though I'm already guessing it still won't be possible unless through direct registry edits), then compare to my current Win7 installation.

Durge (and others), one favor to ask you then....
Since you're going through the pains with this stuff, once you're over, please do a list of procedures, as well as of newer obstacles you may have found.

It's one way to shortcut and predict things (go through it faster) next time one of us tries the (mis)adventures with modern WinOS install.

You installed it on a Raspberry-pi.
Which is a very affordable cpu ~ $35. likely ~$60 with power, case and mini keyboard.
You only need the keyboard to install os and program.
You then setup whitepages and other parameters on a web interface.
The internet is different without all those sprawling ads but I find the best with it how it blocks you phones programs and other devices from constantly call out.
Makes a slow internet line behave much faster.

You need to read up on what it can do and how to do it.
Forum and reddit is very helpful with info.

Assumed you had an i7 before!
Still curious what you think when you get it up running.

You could try TronScript it does a bunch of things like remove 10 bloat apps, disables tracking and installs common utils (eg, 7zip).

Even though this is not addressed to me, I'll share my insights.
With rF2 this will be advantage, because game just moved to multicore rendering. Not sure how much of an advantage, but rF2 is no longer CPU bound on my 8700k.

But, more importantly, I think we'll see more and more of this happening - games utilizing more threads. Lastly, the deeper I get into sim racing the more tools I have to run, so more cores definitely won't hurt for simracing

Ok this Raspberry thing makes it a lot easier to understand.
So when it is setup then connection and surfing is through the lil Raspberry puter - right?

I had an i7 before. Hehe now its the grande i7s Godfather - the mighty Xeon x5670 remember?

Why do you need a new SSD or other system to install W10

I said for years use any old drive so you could test W10 and disconnect W7 in Bios

So by now you would have years of experience and testing behind you and most likely
have already made a informed decision eons ago lol

The pi-hole will be your DNS server.

Theironwolf :
I assume with VR the extra cores are really beneficial?
You feel it gives a boost on RF2 with flat screen too?
Got an unopened box with a Gigabyte gaming 5 X270 thought about changing to a Z370 and par it with a 8700K

I don't "need" it, it just happens I don't have any other older driver available as "test mule".
Since I was already getting the two SSDs anyway, the choice for that is easy.

Maybe I wasn't making myself clear: I don't need any guidance on the hardware part whatsoever, I just want to know if there's any troubles or hiccups with Win10 that one should be aware as of late, such as weird services changes that may have happened with updates, etc.

Last time I messed with it more thoroughly (as user, for myself) was 2016, for two months, right through the period where the Anniversary Update happened, which was frustrating to say the least (all the trouble with tweaks and service changes prior to it went for nought, some legacy software became unstable).

Shadow rendering is multithreaded now. For single screen it does not matter too much. But add tools running in the background etc, it is just better in a long run to have more cores. But for just the game use, single screen, GPU will be the bounding factor most likely.

Now I wish i had

Just the difference in performance doing general stuff is crazy good

Now I can drag 4 videos into encoder and it loads instantly
i5 took a few seconds loading 1 and would lag a bit more loading a 2nd etc

Multi tasking faster, smoother etc

Yeah I will do laps on weekend and report back

P.S.

Best thing i like is the temps with dual radiator
did a bit of stress testing Vantage Extreme Test and Prime ( I only do once these days to check temps )

19C ambient 49C max ..sweet
