Default Weather Generator for GTR2 by ArtOfDrifting

Weatherfile Generator for GTR2 v2.2

With this program you can make weatherfiles for GTR2, so that you can
race with changable conditions.

Place the created weather.txt in your ...\GTR2\UserData\LOG\ directory
and set the rainfall slider in GTR2 to 'changeable'.

You need at least java version 1.4 to run this. The program
will automatically detect whether you have this. If not, it directs you
to www.java.com where you can download the latest version.

Sounds a lot like JTSN's weather mod. Or is it really different, because I know the one I mentioned really works, plus they made one for the dedicated server too!

@zego&bi555: Are you serious about 24 hour races? The temperature should be lower during the night. It is possible to implement that.

@pippo: Google translates your question to "How to set the "Time" in the specific section of the screen for setting GTR2? I tried in various ways but that does not seem to function" I don't understand this.

Tried everything to get this to run, but it just don't want to run on Vista 64-bit.

If I just run the exe I get "check you have right version for your os 32-bit or 64-bit" type of message.

If I run it as admin then windows just says it can't find the exe.

Used all compatability modes and none work.

Many thanks for this small but fantastic tool, ArtOfDriftung.

It has replaced the old weatherpatch-loader (from safety) on our servers. It's a great improvement to the old weatherpatch to have constant average temperatures during the whole race weekend and the same weather in the warmup and at racestart.

In our league mostly we are driving 60-minutes-races. Has someone good settings for following parameters?

'Lenght of the periods of constant weather in minutes'
minPeriod
maxPeriod

'The number of trend points in 180 minutes' <- in this case 60 minutes
nrTrendPoints
minSpaceTrendPoints

greetings

Default 24h Races

@ArtOfDrifting: ...and don't forget to implement 24 h Races... ;o) For me it is very important, cause we face this challenge twice a year with friends. A lot of fun, but with changing weather it should be outstanding!

Thank you in advance for your work!!!!

Hmm sounds like a good idea, But will the weather change during a session like for instance half/way through a race and would this patch cause online mismatches (MMS) ?

Yes it changes during a race (if the generator has created changing weather ) and it causes no online mismatches.

Red face

Is it possible to implement new types of weather like drizzle or something?

I just tried to make a new weather type "drizzle" or "dry3" via configfile, but the Exe-file unfortunately ignores it.

Anyway, the WeatherGen works great. Thx again.

I just have a question, with this tool its posible to change the whater within the session? Ho to do that? Man I dream about GP4, when at the beginning of the race the sun is shinning, and three laps after, heavy rain!!! Many times I start the race with wet tyres and many times it works!!

EDITED

Ok I understand , but can somebody put some numbers for begin dry and ending rainning please?

This application generates random weather files. If you want some special kind of weather, you have to make a weatherfile yourself.

Rain conditions vary from 70 to 100. 75 is very light rain, 95 is hardly drivable.

I made one for you. At the beginning of the race it is dry and after 8 minutes it starts to rain. Remember to keep it read-only. Get it here:

Looks grat, but is it also possible to change the config file, and make min temp -3 for example? i want to make it like the weather at the moment is in my country.

I don't have a weather file in my LOG folder?

Yes, you can set the minimal, maximal and average temperature in the 'GTR2WGen.ini'-file. I don't know what limits GTR2 uses.

I guess that's because you never started a session with changable weather.

Sorry for the late reaction. I should be notified when someone posts here, but that function doesn't seem to work.

It was my fault. There was an error in the weather file. I corrected it. After 6 minutes it starts to rain.

I am working on a new version of this program that also works under Windows Vista.
Other new features may be 24h race support and an optional graphical interface.

[Edit 19-5] New version is ready and uploaded!

I expected this to work under Vista, but that isn't tested, because I have XP.
It doesn't run. What happens exactly?

So I can simply run GTR2EXE and I will have real changeable weather?
I thought a bug in GTR2.exe would prevent changing weather in single sessions....

GTR2 uses the textfile weather.txt in ...\GTR2\UserData\LOG\ for changable weather. Due to a bug there is an error in the weatherfiles that GTR2 itself creates; the weather does not change during the race. This program generates a correct weatherfile.

Place the created weather.txt in your ...\GTR2\UserData\LOG\ directory.

@xenobot: thanks, it just crashes when you start it.

The problem for Windows XP users is solved.

You need the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or higher installed. This is a part of Windows to be used by Windows applications, but it isn't standard included in Windows XP. It is in Vista. Download it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and search for ".NET framework".

No solution yet for the problem under Vista.

I've tried this weather Gen file on 3 PC's, always get the same error on attempting to load it. I've even removed .Net Framework v3.0 and v2.0, then re-installed v2.0, still no luck. I hope someone can find a fix, or there is an update soon? Looking forward to actually trying this for my league!
