Default Ring framerate tip

Framerate gain especially for the ring. My friend told me about this earlier. It seems the ring tracks have long draw distance. Which lowers your framerate. Long draw distance is good for videos but not for framerates.

This framerate tip is found in the tracks SCN file

Example.. Ring 2007 2.2a

View=mainview
{
Clear=False
Color=(0, 0, 0)
Size=(1.00, 1.00) Center=(0.5, 0.5)
FOV=(77.75, 62.50)
ClipPlanes=(0.50, 6000.00)
View=rearview
{
Clear=False
Color=(0, 0, 0)
Size=(1024.00, 64.00) Center=(512.00, 32.00)
FOV=(62.5, 62.5)
ClipPlanes=(0.50, 250.00)

Mainview clipplane has draw of 0.50 to 6km!! most tracks are 500-1500 depending how long the straights are. But the ring being twisty can handle a lower setting. But beware too low may cause stutters so its FPS vs Memory. I got enough big gains 20-40% depending where you are at the ring.

Mainview above u would change..

ClipPlanes=(0.50, 6000.00) to (0.50, 500.00) or lower you see your framerate skyrocket enjoy say bye bye to Ring version 1.2

Rearview clipplanes u can use 150-200metres is fine... RIP Ring Version 1.2

Mid Ohio as well has long draw distance!

Might be something to consider for the next person who upgrades the track.

Yes it should work for Race07 GTR2 etc.. front draw distance of 300metres is abit annoying if u see the track rendering as u drive but u get the best framerate, try 500-750metres.

5000metres front draw distance is only useful for making videos.

For rearview 150metres is enough.

I think the large distance is to make things like the bridge at the end of the main straight appear at an appropriate time, and also for screenshotters, who want to get in that lovely vista, like this. Although now I look at it again, that's nowhere near 6km

Gd tip, I'll tweak it down a tiny bit. I could do with some frames on Mid-Ohio too

hello,

the value of 6000 at our v2.2a ring has been calculated by many tests - everything under this value will cause shadows to flicker and headlight beam of the cars flicker on the road and stuff ... so you have to be careful changing that ... didnt test in gtr2/Evo yet

One of the amazing things about Nordschliefe 2.2a and Virtua LM Le Mans is that they disobey the normal rules of track design.

One would expect small tracks to be of better quality as the developer has less to work on and can concentrate more time on the immersion and atomisphere of the track.

In the case of those two, the longest tracks in rFactor have the best immersion levels. Rouen Les Essart's is another one. Found a road that goes underneath the track the other day that I never knew existed. Monumentous track to run on.

Here's another tip: During the 3D configuration...select DX9 instead of Auto, then un-select v-sync and use the +fullproc +highprio command in startup shortcut target. The game will then run smooth as glass...not a single stutter anywhere during races or playback.

Q: Where/How do I find this, is it within rFactor? Appreciate some help with this, I can not find this +fullproc +highprio command in startup shortcut target? Perhaps I'm dense, but don't get this startup shortcut target?

i don't like short Clip Plane distance, because sometimes you see the track objects appear like they were beyond skybox. Well, they actually are, but it just looks bad.
Finding the optimal distance is useful though, i like to play with clip planes and the size of skybox to save clip planes as minimal as possible without that clipping effect.

For anyone that is interested, Dom77's FPS tip above along with DoubleT's graphics setup tip above, combined, works GREAT! I used these methods in combination on the new Motorland Aragon track and it's running beautifully now with a full 20 F1 car field. And I due not have a power pc, just a AMD 3500+ 4 year old processor, ATI 1950 Pro graphics card. FPS is up about 33%. I'll be using these suggested methods on all my installs and tracks from now on.
