Default Fanatec Clubsport Wheel - What Do you Want Tested?

Well, there was a thread started on the iRacing forums about this, so I thought that I would start the same thing here.

For whomever gets picked as the Clubsport wheel reviewer, we are wondering what you guys want tested. After all, we are getting picked for YOU.

Just leave your requests here in a short and simple form. We might not be able to test EVERYTHING, but I'm sure whoever gets chosen will do their best to accommodate all requests.

If I get end up getting picked, these are the areas I intend on including in my review. If I don't end up getting picked, these are the areas I would love if the reviewer could cover.

Heat Generation/ Cooling efficiency
Power Consumption
Noise Levels (I have a sound pressure meter)
FFB responsiveness & strength
All measurements (weights, lengths, ect)
Software side of things

All of the above will be tested against all the wheels I have the ability to test directly against.

Build quality, considering the brand name...

First off, you would have to be in the group of 8 people who were chosen to be voted on; which was chosen quite a few days ago. The poll is located here:

http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=286758

Next off, to measure the power consumption, the easiest way would be to use something called a Kill-a-Watt. It is pretty simple, you plug it into the wall, then plug in the electronic device you want to test. The screen can be cycled through to display different things; the most common being kilowatt/hour.

It is so simple, and so cheap, it is a great tool to always have around the house.

I thought this was a given. =] Every little detail will be scrutinized. My Clubsport pedals came with a few stripped hex screws, so if I get the chance to test, I will even check every single screw if that's what it takes.

As for the durability of the wheel, it will be hard to tell. I don't actually know how long the testers are going to have with the wheels before they can publish their reviews. I am assuming somewhere between 2-4 weeks. If given the opportunity, I would drive the wheel harder than I normally do for the duration of the test period. Hopefully bringing out any problems that would pop up further down the road.

These next points were brought to attention on the iRacing forums. I'll post them here for the non-iRacers.

- Slop in the shaft/bearings. Any rattling or wiggle room there.
- Belt slip and belt tension
- Quick release durability (I would try to take it off and put it back on at least several hundred times, probably not quite a thousand like one iRacer mentioned!)
-Dead zones (Most pronounced around center)

Thanks, Zild, I may look for one. I'll be testing the wheel for another forum.

I think you posted in the wrong thread Umma. Contact Redi here on the forums. He's very good at Fanatec support issues.

Hi zild1221,

Congratulations of being selected as the CSW tested, I only came 5th in the poll, but I an really looking forward to your detailed review. Any news on when you will receive the wheel?

In terms of things to test there are three areas I would like you to focus on:

1) How securely the quick release mechanism mounts the wheel, is there any movement if you try pulling one side of the wheel towards you and pushing the other side away from you?

2) When driving how smooth is the wheel when turning from the straight ahead. On my Turbo S wheel there is sometimes a small bit of play or notchiness (feels like gears even though the wheel has a belt) around the straight ahead even when the dead zones are set to zero and the wheel and in game?

3) What is the tactile feel of the buttons on the front of the wheel and how well do they work when navigating the in game menus?

Thanks
James

Thanks James! Trust me, I am really eager to test this wheel myself... No clue when I can expect to see the wheel yet; they are currently waiting for all of the forum polls to come to an end. The last one I can find is ISR, and that ends the 26th. I would assume a few weeks after that hopefully.

As for your points, I already plan to cover each of those areas. I am really nervous/anxious to see how the quick release holds up. Any slop in it and that would pretty much ruin the feel of the FFB.

Button feel wise, I plan to dig out some other buttons I have lying around. I can compare directly to the feel of other manufactures like Knitter.

I've started compiling my list already of everything to be tested. That way I don't forget anything. Once it is where I feel complete, I will post it in its entirety here. Then you guys can add more ideas.

Also. I am in the process of building a nice new cockpit in anticipation of getting the wheel. I'm going to start a thread here shortly on that. I have already designed and purchased the material needed.

Excellent, really looking forward to seeing your review.

Planning to upgrade from my Turbo S to the CSW assuming it is as good as I hope it is going to be.

I've just seen that Fanatec will also make the ClubSport Pedals V2 available to the CSW testers:
http://www.911wheel.de/?q=node/8348

Are you going to test the new ClubSport Pedals V2?

They haven't even shipped yet in the States James.

As for long term reliability... After my initial review, I will write another 6-12 months down the road.

Well I just ran across this today searching for reviews for the clubsport, and found this from one of the tester out there that just recently got his I think he had it for about 4-5 days then he posted this, if I read all of the thread right. He said:

"The wheel base I've received has a serious defect, and must be replaced"

Not a good sign as I really was considering this wheel, and now I'm gonna hold out for a bit.

I just wanted to fill you guys in. I actually have not received my wheel, rims, and pedals yet. They will be here hopefully in 6 days according to UPS. That will leave me 9 days to test before the "embargo" is lifted.

I feel I can sufficiently test the products in that amount of time. I will format my thread here so that I can add to the review as time passes on. Any problems/querks/ or things I specifically like about the products, that kind of stuff.

I have all of my extrusion sitting here waiting to be assembled this weekend for my new cockpit. Hopefully I will have time to complete it before UPS shows up.

Glad to hear that they are on the way and you should have them shortly.

Really looking forward to hearing your feedback as I am planning an upgrade from my Turbo S if the CSW is as good as I expect it to be.

Although that's not how it should be, it's exactly why people are testing. This product should have a low defect rate but zero defects unfortunately isn't possible. Replacing it quickly and without hassle is the main thing here.
