Default Censorship is just wrong!!!!

Why does this site feel the need to censor my private messages to another member?? This is just wrong on so many levels.

vbulletin software has a censor function, we use it remove certain words from public postings in the forums..

because of how vbulletin works it then also censors those same words in PMs and there is no setting to overide that.

So, cursing your friends or sending them links to the few sites that made it into our censored list is no easier by PM than in public, and we can't easily change that.

That is exactly how it works on my other forum too. It's fun getting creative to go around the "SENSOR"

Basically the situation is: censored by a "censor sensor" Does that make any sense?

You could also say that swearing is wrong or sharing links to warez sites is wrong

'Bad is bad' and 'wrong is wrong'. Always has been, always will be. Have fun trying to change that 'carved in stone' ancient philosophy...

Swearing is wrong. This includes swearing oaths. Selling your soul is wrong too, especially in the form of "swearing an oath"

"Bad" can be good. It depends on your perspective. "Bad" is another word for "cool" in many forms of context.

But to get off the "censorSHIP" you have to get your own "SHIP"
These waters over here have rules.
So either go back to "the jungle" or get your own "SHIP" to part the waters as you please.

I guess the word "Private" in Private Message had me fooled. Good to know we have an all supreme moral voice to steer us sheep straight.

No, you don't seem to have understood. As Veloce said the filter that works for the forum also works for PMs and that cannot be changed.

The filtering is hard-coded into the 'ware that runs the place. A lot of forum-wares have similar filters built into them, and (trust me on this...been there, done that) it's easier to deal with it as opposed to dealing with (for example) irate parents who complain that their children were exposed to inappropriate language in a forum post. 'Private' in private message simply means that your post will not be publicly available for viewing.

It may also be worth remembering that most forums are NOT a public democracy, but rather a privately-owned/maintained operation, and the owners can do as they like. You agreed to these terms when you signed up here. The crew here actually allows a rather large freedom to us in general, and I appreciate that. If you disagree with the management here, you can always delete your account.

I was making reference to the fact another forum that is also race sim related is blocked. Sure they are atad more relaxed on what can be posted but for the most part alot of content is legit. I understand the filter rules but why the very mention of another forum is filtered is beyond me. I was not posting a link in public but rather trying to point an individual to a legit mod he was loooking for.

oh goodness I realized the perfect solution! It took me all day to figure this one out!

To get around the big censorship use the "e-mail" thingamajig
That would totally work!

Is there a reason you feel the need to post this crap designed to provoke?

Designed to provoke a LAUGH!!!! It's funny how many forms of humor come across as annoying. That's just too bad.

I'm guessing that that's it right there...I think that certain sites are blocked here due to their having mods containing material used without proper permissions, warez, etc. Personally, I don't have a problem with that.
